Sirgas VLOG 05 - Attacked by wild lions

- Опубліковано 3 лис 2023
- A small pride of three lions made an appearance in our are and made their way into Sirgas fenced reserve. These lions were not used to fences and dug their way under in. Unfortunately, electric wires didn't stop them from entering. We were woken up by loud noises from lions fighting and rushed to the scene to help Sirga. Luckily, everything turned out fine and Sirga got away with a few minor injuries.
Sidenote: These events have happened in November 2022, one year prior to this upload. Sirga is in good health and safe.
Disclaimer: The actions depicted in this video are performed by a professional familiar with Sirga and her unique circumstances. It is crucial to understand that wild animals, especially predators like lions, are unpredictable and can be dangerous. Always prioritize safety and respect for wildlife.

I am glad that Sirga is doing fine, I am just looking at your UA-cam videos and I am amazed about all you do for her. How do you know what antibiotics you are supposed to give to a lioness?
So glad you are both ok
Alles gut an Euch alle! Schön das Sirga die Attacken überlebt hat. Die Blessuren hätten allerdings schlimmer sein können.
I'm glad all went well and Sirga is doing well again. Also she might do need some lion contact... Stay strong and safe.

Glad she is ok... As you said it could have been much worse. Was quite emotional the first part, but a happy ish ending. Hope you're feeling ok, too - sounds like it must have been quite distressing for you also. And the others working with you
it was a hard moment but we are all 100% okay 😊 These things are part of lions behavior and as long as we are around to help Sirga when needed I think she is very safe and still has a free and happy life 😊

Sending love. So happy she is okay ❤
I don't understand what you're talking about, but from the comments I conclude that sirgo was attacked by polishes, so I wonder how the attack could have occurred and where you were at that moment! Thank God Sirga is fine and so are you! God bless you ❤️
Glad she is ok. Reminds me of that savage fight scene in Born Free of Elsa fighting the wild lioness while the male watched.that was a key lesson for her introduction into the wild.
Je souhaite un tres bon rétablissement à Sirga ,et j'espère que ces lions ne reviennent plus
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....Hope he's okay 😢
We hope she is ok soon
Hi, im fairly new here, but i would like to ask, is it maybe a good idea to get sirga a pride so that they can defend theirselves for when other lions invade her territory so that they would stand a better chance?
It actually would be more chaotic and would result in some lion getting fatally injured or killed. Especially if you add another male lion with Serga, then the wild males would then be the one fighting and that would result in somebody getting fatally injured or killed.
@@justine8637 oh i didnt know that! But isnt it more realistic tho for a lion to live in a pride?
@@tim.Carels it sure is but Serga live her entire life as a solitary cat. Lions can live just fine alone just like lady luwa the last lioness.
@@justine8637 really ? I didnt know that😂
@@tim.Carels I'm gonna bite the bait and just tell you. Male lions are actually the one who goes solo more often, reason being if they were born as a lone male they will get kicked out of the pride and live as a solitary nomad or if the pride males lose a battle for territory and lost his brothers he will live as a solitary nomad just like Bad boy Jessi. It happens more often than you think, males are more prone to go solo than lionesses. Even when a male lion has a brother, you will find that they would sometimes separate and patrol different places alone.
It’s crazy just how similar big dogs are to lions.
Dreadful night indeed😣but luckily all ended well...glad that lovely Sirga is ik❤
Poor Sirga😢😢😢
Stay safe 😢❤
Try Chlorhexidine spray. it doesn't have alcohol and will not sting. I use it on my kitty and he's purr-ectly happy.
Poor Sirga
very good Sirga is good ,but this is good experience for her
Absolutely. It is a great learning curve for her about the behaviour and pride dynamics amongst her own species. Luckily all scratches were minor wounds and have healed perfectly well, without even leaving a scar.
As I said on tiktok I'm going to subscribe to your UA-cam channel 👍
Yep those tail flicks....not happy
Shes absolutely gorgeous! Does she not have any other lions to be with? I just found your channel.
wild lions come and go through the area but so far she just fights with them. She does not seem overly keen on sharing her territory yet ;-)
There is always a small risk of incidents with other lions. I guess that’s part of a free life. But Sirga is very clever and it’s her territory. Fights and some scratches are a common part of any lions life and given her 11 years of age she actually looks amazing and doesn’t have any scars yet at all. A few arguments here and there between lions are scary but usually not deadly. And I will of course always be there to help out when needed, just like in this case 😊
💗
I"m so happy to hear that Sirga is okay. Those wild lionesses will Never accept Sirga as part of the pride, the males might but. the lionesses could kill her.
If she’s proves herself useful to the pride on hunts and stuff they may end up accepting her, it has happened before especially because she doesn’t have cubs or part of another pride.
I read this was from a year ago.... Did the lions move on? When did you decide it was safe to release her back to her fenced reserve?
Sirga was released after about a week, once her scratches had healed. Despite my initial concerns about her potential insecurity, her first action was to hunt an antelope, clearly indicating that her spirits remained unbroken.
The lions that had been lingering in our area for approximately six months have since moved on, and it's disheartening to note that they ventured into cattle farming areas about 50km away. Unfortunately, they were eventually shot due to livestock killings. The movement of these lions stems from the challenge of finding adequate space and prey within the parks, leading them to seek new territories. This struggle is exacerbated by the constant expansion of human and livestock populations, resulting in a competition that lions consistently lose. This ongoing conflict has taken a toll on our wild African lion population, reducing it by approximately 90% from over 200,000 individuals just 70 years ago to possibly fewer than 20,000 today.
Living in one of the last areas in Africa where truly wild lions roam is a blessing, but it comes with the somber reality of witnessing their disappearance, which can be profoundly disheartening. Additionally, legal killings of lions due to livestock damage and the rise of illegal poaching, mainly for body parts in Vietnam and China, contribute to the challenges these magnificent creatures face. The fenced reserve for Sirga provides her with a free yet secure life, addressing these threats.
Collaborating with the Modisa Wildlife Project, we are dedicated to halting and potentially reversing these alarming trends, focusing primarily on local communities. Sirga's story and her relationship with me serve as powerful tools, not only piquing people's curiosity but also revealing a different side of an animal often perceived as a ruthless killing machine and a lethal threat to be eradicated. Isn't Sirga supposed to socialize with others if she's going to find a mate and isn't the only lion on the reservation?
Wow how did the lions get her enclosure? I’m glad she ok .the male lion will be back I think
Sirga lives free now and the enclosure is simply open for her to return home when she feels like it. She actually spends the majority of her time there voluntarily but she goes out regularly to do some hunting and to mark her territory. In this incident the lionesses which attacked her, followed her through the open door of the enclosure where she obviously went to seek shelter after fighting them out in the open area first. I was actually surprised that the wild females were not scared of the small opening. It usually takes wild predators a lot of habituating to pass through a narrow space like that. Luckily we got them out again and Sirga got away with mostly just one more good lesson learned.
No2 that those Lions know her home will they keep coming back?!?
They usually move on to other areas and sadly often they end up walking into livestock areas where they end up getting shot because they are killing cows, goats, horses, goats and sheep or they get relocated. Despite our best efforts to keep them away from these places this is what happened to these three. It was incredibly sad for hear those news and I wish they would have just stayed here in our area. In reality there are not many areas left for them to be relocated to. Habitat that is suitable for lions has lions in it and that means there isn't space for more. These nomadic lions are looking for new territory and outside the protected areas where there are no other resident lions telling them that the space is occupied appears perfect to them - no lions roaring, scent marking and trying to kill you and then you find food (cows) = perfect home! problem is that a farmer will shoot them and then the story repeats again and again... All this is part of the reason why Sirga's area is fenced and why she wears a tracking collar so that we can keep her safe. Feel free to checkout my podcast "Kalahari Diaries" for more info on the subject and more.
A cat is a cat, is a cat.
She is too different, she will never find a mr. right in outside.
Pet lioness can't survive in the wild...... pet lions are usually innocent and don't know the tactics of Living in the wild environment
Take care of her! Dont let the others harm her
Let's suppose Sirga does end up becoming friendly with these other lions and she winds up bringing them over to introduce them to her human friend... You know... Just to have everyone get to know each other... Or, what if, let's suppose she were to become VERY friendly with one of the male lions and she came home pregnant (something which is natural for wild animals)... Wie würdest du reagieren? 🤔
If Sirga starts bonding with the wild lions that would be very welcome. I would have no problem not going out with her anymore and if she wants to interact with me I am sure she would come close to the vehicle to greet me while the wild lions would still keep their distance. With regards to getting pregnant, Sirga is on birth control. Its not that we wouldn't wish for her to be pregnant from an emotional point of view. But the future for these lions in a landscape where their habitat is disappearing and a scary rate is simply so uncertain. Hundreds of lions are being killed annually because they are problem animals, usually causing damage to livestock, or on occasion taking a human life. While this is going on breeding more lions would simply be unethical and wrong. We believe that Sirga's story will continue to enable us with our work in conservation in the Kalahari and that her existence will still benefit her wild relatives for many years after she will have left this world. Its all a bit of a complicated subject and if you would like to fond out more details feel free to checkout my podcast: "the Kalahari Diaries"
@@ModisaTV I understand and I'm not saying you should breed her... I'm just saying that she shouldn't have the opportunity to make love with a male lion IF that's what she wants (and if it's what they both want) and to having cubs and raise them with your help IF that's what she wants. I, personally, am against forced breeding, but I wouldn't mind seeing something "romantic" happening between her and a suitable male lion. Yes, I know I'm speaking more from an emotional point of view than from a practical one... 😌
