I’m still learning a lot about fragrances, mostly from you, Sebastian! I didn’t know that Rose Chypre was a category. Turns out, I own several of these on your list, so I guess this is a category I definitely like! Thanks so much for the video!
This has nothing to do with the topic of this video, but I just wanted to thank-you for introducing me to Vanagloria from Laboratorio Olfattivo. It has quickly become my favorite vanilla fragrance.
There's one classic rose chypre you missed that I THINK you can still buy and is still in production (?)... Emmanuel Ungaro's DIVA! this 80's beauty was created by none other than JACQUES POLGES and it's a serious perfume: a burst of aldehydes, cardamom, tuberose, bergamot and Mandarin orange, heart notes of both Turkish and Moroccan rose with carnation, Ylang, narcissus, jasmine and orris, with a base of honey, oakmoss and CIVET.. this perfume is incredible and I highly recommend getting your nose on it!!
Fell in love with Zoologist Cardinal. It’s so classically made I worry it might turn off the usual zoologist fan, but it’s so wel balanced and the rose, musk, vanilla heart contrasts so well with the cooler forestry mosses and leaves. The limited edition red bottle is so handsome and that’s probably how I’d describe the scent, handsome and classic. A fitting goodbye from a master perfumer.
Chypre is my absolute favorite family of fragrances. From the ones mentioned I LOVE Gris Dior, and I have been trying to get hold of a sample of Portrait of a Lady forever, without success. Other favorite chypres for me are La Panthère from Cartier and Eau de Soir from Sisley.

I just now realized im a cheypre lover because i never knew the notes that makes up a cheypre fragrance until now but I do love them. POAL is one of my fave fragrances as well (I’m currently big with FM fragrances), but I do have to agree with you about FM being under estee lauder. I recently bought new 100ml bottles of POAL, MUSC Ravageur, and Iris Poudre as backup, and they all definitely smell faint compared to my orig vintage bottles 🥴 I had to spray my new POAL 8x just to get that “beast mode” oomf whereas i only spray twice with my older bottle 🤷🏻♀️ Also, it doesn’t stay on my clothes and smell strong after dry cleaning/laundry wash.
I enjoy these fragrances but I am complete with POAL, I blind bought it after watching one of your top lists and it's one of the best fragrances I have in my collection, it's so amazing and a huge compliment magnet, I really don't need anything else on this front. Thanks for the video Sebastian!!!
When I began my journey, never in a million years would I have guessed that rose, much less rose chypre, would become a favorite of mine. Now I have the bug to guy buy some! Thanks for the great reviews, Sebastian!
Rose is my favorite note and I can never have too many rose perfumes. POAL is magical. Definitely at the top for me too. I can only imagine how amazing it was when it was first released.
Farmhouse in Spring by Solstice Scents. Daffodil, orange blossom, magnolia, burnt cypress wood, sun baked earth. Smells like burnt bushes, grass flowers mixed with a very masculine smoked dirt accord
I guess I still don't understand what chypres are. From your list, I own both the original and new formulations of Darby Rose. It's such a bright, watery, fresh rose to me, so I don't know what about it would make it chypre, as it seems to be a very straightforward floral.
I haven’t ever heard you talk about L’Occitane fragrances, but I recently had the opportunity to try Eau D’Iparie and found it to be a delightful rose chypre lifted by a big dose of pink pepper. Also enjoy Radical Rose from Matiere Premiere.
I have been hearing you talking about Portrait of a Lady for years. I don’t know why it took me so long to try and I finally did it a couple weeks ago. OMG I love it! Now I want a bottle!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤

A classic perfume style for sure. Not quite the same with the modern interpretations, but I'm glad it's still around. Happy to say that POAL finally started to grow on me too. To the point where I picked up a partial. Also picked up a very good clone that's getting more use? 😂 Yeah, save the good stuff, compound that vibe. 🌹 Time for Aramis' 900 methinks!
