Larry is a very clumsy baby. I hand raised an amazon, and would NEVER do it again. Unless you are experienced and have LOTS of support, handfeeding (and weaning) can end up in heartbreak and disaster. Weaning my bluefront was the most nerve wracking time of my life and I swore that I'd never hand raise a baby parrot again. I really think that unless the parent birds are inexperienced, or can't raise the baby, or if they are harming the baby, it's really best to let the parent birds raise the chicks. Hand feeding does NOT make them tamer, or better companions or "Pets". I have an adopted yellow nape amazon, and his is a big bruiser of a boy who came to me with attitude, and we became buddies and inseperable very quickly. It takes gentle, permission based handline, and mostly TRUST to for a bond with a bird, especially parrots which are so intelligent. Let them have choice, be gentle, and NEVER discipline them! They are not like dogs, and won't get it. The only result would be that they loose their trust in you and think you are an abusive jerk. My YNA is the sweetest most trusting boy, and a stellar companion, but it takes work!
Love the informative baby macaw raising.
So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
