The thrift is definitely not dead! It’s all about putting the time in like everything else. Know your stores, know the people who work there because a lot of the time they will look after you. Hell I even gave my favourite op shop ladies some chocolates for Easter. Thrift shops are the backbone of reselling. You could say there a Gold Rush…
The prices second hand stores are charging these days is ridiculous,it's so hard to find a bargain
Yep! They are getting very greedy.. they get it for nothing to start with then over charge for it!!
They are all rip offs
Heres my info dump, straight from the opshop employees (one being the area manager). Nearly all of the thrift shops here have phone lists. They will call you then hold the stock you want until you collect. Whats more, the local Lifeline distribution sends ALL its good new stock to a neighbouring city, it cycles through 2 stores there before ending up back in my city. I learnt this after realising we never get any brand name shoes here, like ever. What's worse is that this stock then cycles out to rural areas after here. Our local thrifts straight up won't stock certain categories of item because they don't have the staff or time to process it. Media older than DVD goes straight to the rubbish bin. Lastly, employees get first pick here. They have to pay for the items but it never hits the shelves. We never have shoes, action figures, VHS or VCRs, audio equipment, big money TV'S series, non-yellowed books are very rare, it goes on. I find more or this stuff at the recycle centre then the combined 10 opshops here.
So the comment may very well be true depending where you live. Of course the GC has a load more incoming items so results do vary.
Depends where John lives I guess , Some thrifts in Sydney think they are upmarket Boutiques and want $20 for a shit shirt .... those places are now dead all the resellers went elsewhere . Went to one the other day they used to close at 3pm now open to 5pm when I asked why the lady said we arent making any money anymore haha .
Gold Rush - Cannot agree with you more about connections. Has taken me a while but my best connection gets me a trailer load of clothes & books every week.
10 years ago, when the economy was hot... thrifting and selling stuff from the thrift was so frown upon. I heard "for poor people" before. Those were the good ol days because if you can swallow some of your pride, you had an insane selection of stuff... Now, it's too competitive for my tastes
do you have a disc resurfacer or do you just check all the discs before you buy?
Good stuff mate!! Success at thrift stores depends on where you live. Here were I live they are overpriced and there are too many people going through things. The staff here seem to price their goods based on eBay nowadays. I've moved to a couple of different sourcing methods that still get me enough stuff to sell. I haven't given up on the thrifts completely. I still visit and will buy the odd thing here and there when it pops up.
Gold Rush.. Matt, loved watching these with my mum, who sadly isn’t here any more 😢 now I watch all your videos, love them 😊
Man, you got a great load of items on this Video!!! It is nice to know people, who in the end can sure help you out with your business or anything in that matter!! Your personality, I cannot imagine anyone forgetting you or wanting to forget you!!! I hope you have a Super Weekend Gold RUSH!!!!! 🤗♥️🙏🏼
Seriously it depends totally on where you’re located. Rarely do I find really good finds and that includes my local FB marketplace. I watch all these videos and can’t believe what you get and feel so envious! Seriously makes me want to move just for the thrifting lol.
North brisbane is hammered, plus there is lower economic donations. Whereas i recently went to Airlie Beach and stopped into a thrift and there was plenty of good items. You are 100% correct, it comes down to the zoning area and anyone who says otherwise clearly hasnt branched out enough to see it
I've 'branched out' enough to know we got things good on the GC! and im taking full advantage. That's not to say your area doesn't good profitable item opportunities. It doesn't have to be sourced from thrift stores.
@@mattfishermedia it’s time dependent too, I was In Airlie last September and the thrifts were terrible
You 2 have a realy good energy together. Everyone wants to know are you guys an item and if not why not. If you find happiness guys grab it.
Only just found your UA-cam channel all I can say it is a gold rush. I will definitely be binge watching all your videos to help start a side hustle 👍🏽
That's one thing I have hardly ever found at Op shops and that's action figures and I do look for them. Good pick up on ER 😃 Gold Rush!
Ahaha that intro! 🤣Matt the Aussie Wiggle?! Thrifting is not dead and there is plenty to be found. Just today I got 4 sneakers (nike, saucony and puma brands) for between $4-$6. This doesnt happen all the time tho. So you could argue that its not the best use of time (if doing it on a full time/part time basis). For a side hustle absolutely worth it! As a full timer I cant NOT thrift tho, as I enjoy it so much! Its also handy to top up the death pile on a whim.
We find plenty of bargains around Adelaide. Some Salvos do ask way too much for DVDs at times, $6 up to $12 for seasons of TV shows sometimes!!
Been doing a bit of travelling of late and behind on my UA-cam watching. Glad yours was the first to get up to date on. It was like a GOLD RUSH of finds you had. Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time! Keep up the good work Mate 🙂
Thrift or not to Thrift is not the question. The question is where can I thrift to find me some Gold Rush? Also you need to learn everytime you thift (I'm still in my first year). I also picked up Harry Potter today but only 6/8 of the vids and 5/7 of the books, will find the other 2 before listing. Thanks for your vids as always.
WOW ! I'd love to find ER just for myself in an Op Shop to watch I love that show ! ps saw that Ham Wrap LOL
What a Gold Rush of a deal those TV Show DVDs were! Connections are the key to those kind of deals 👍🏻
Gold rush love that show. Top work. You did prove the thrift stores are not dead.
They are dead in New Zealand, most of the best items get picked out by the workers for their own auction accounts and all the garbage is left for everyone else. It seems to be much better quality stuff making it to the stores in Australia
*Gold Coast...which seems to be completely different to where I am down south. $1 and $2 bluerays...wouldn't see that here. The op shops here also have valuers come in and value everything before they put it out on the shelves.
@@Lupi33z I wonder if they actually sell at those crazy prices I don’t buy second hand clothes for myself for more than $5 a piece
@@webapple1 they would sell to people who want them for themselves...but not economic for resellers
@@Lupi33z I don’t know about you but a nike top brand new is $40 they selling at one thrift shop for $25 … nobody in their right mind should pay for something that much they got for free . Yes resellers exsist but charity shops pricing out poor people too beat out resellers is a joke . That’s not from a reseller point of view because I’m not one
I’m surprised by the Gold Rush dvds. Don’t seem to be widely available in the US.
OMG snap i literally got all of those first of the ones you got of the ER box sets here in Auckland this morning all but season 4 to list - but brand new to all of this so wasn't sure yet how much to list for. I need to look for the rest. There was just something that made me buy them. Gold Rush.
@@debbieblincoe9880 I tried on trademe but people list stuff crazy low , like $2 + shipping , not even worth it ! I check eBay prices all the time it’s much higher but some reason trademe resellers just race to the bottom
@@debbieblincoe9880 none , I tried both , but it was a hassle and nothing was selling , most interest on Fb market place , but living in Auckland central some people stuff around because it’s “too far from them” so for now I still go thrifting but I only get stuff I’d used myself and will try resell again when I have the motivation
Actionman did not sell for me... but great pickups!
Your videos are always full of 'nuggets' of great tips and inspiration - many thanks. Gold Rush
Hey Matt, have you ever thought of doing merch such as bags, pins, shirts, etc. I think it would be a GOLD RUSH!!!
Salvos and vinnies are getting so expensive, im not even joking when I tell you their shoe price tags are up around the 50 dollars, I'll get photos next time I'm there. It's absolutely insane.
Also lately I have been getting DVDs that have been sticky taped shut only to find disks missing or broken when I return home. If they are taped shut people - open them anyway!
Thrift and op shops are gunna become a thing of the past for resellers if they don't stop their price hikes on everything, it's gotten out of hand.
I was in one the other day and on all the tags it has " ebay price" then " our price " which is only like 5 dollars less. It's outrageous considering the majority of their stock is donated.
These shops are so incredibly dumb thinking that they are eBay. For example you'll see an item that sells 50 times a year on eBay & yet they come to the conclusion that one of those 50 people on the planet will going to walk in their shop & buy it... I could go on and on about how dense they are but will leave it at that.
Just came across your channel, just curious if you use Worthpoint? I find that a pretty good tool, though the items I sell are in a different category to yours.
Edit Note: I love op shopping, wouldn't have a business without them!
Well done Matt ,Great deal on the TV Series Dvd's ,some good prices up there .Gold Rush
Congrats Mossy! You’re the winner of the giveaway! Shoot me a note on instagram and I’ll get it out to you!!
Some thrift stores are definitely dead. Depends on your area. In my area there's 2 that I don't even bother wasting my time in as all prices are through the roof to the point you may as well buy brand new. But there's a few thrift stores in my area that are really good. Just need to get out there and check different areas.
Lordy, great pick up! You really do prove that putting in the work does pay off. On Ya! Cheers, Maz.
Legendary finds Matt - Thanks as always for your fabulous information - gold rush 😊
Get a rush from the gold rush dvd. Awesome show and live watching your channel, I’ve learnt so much
@@TheAussieFlipper hey can I ask what program you edit your videos in? I’m trying to find one that’s not so clunky for my little hobby farm channel
GOLD RUSH - good on you Matt! That street in the video is a reseller's paradise! Once got a vintage Disney Haunted Mansion version of Cluedo for $3 from there which sold on for some great money!
Id love that bulls dvd to add to the Gold Rush dynasty. But seriously let me know when you 2 list it. 😄
Do you check the discs before you buy to see if they are ok?
Not usually anymore because they are generally fine. No scratch no worries
Stick that up your clacker JohnSells357😂 Nice DVD haul! Will definitely be adding GOLDRUSH to my BOLO list.
Hi Mat, Do you send lots of your video games overseas? I understand DVD region codes but not sure about regional codes for games like Playstation Xbox, Wii etc..?? Do they work overseas?
Thrift stores in Qld are better than in SA. 🤔
Love your thrifting videos. Great work ! ! !
Definitely going to seek out my own Gold Rush at the independent op-shops. It’s all up for grabs if you’re willing to put in the work.
Gold rush. Love the content Matt. Recently sold a WWE 2003 PPV collection for $150 and got it for an average COG of 60 cents
i found a dvd called Children of the Dog Star recently at an op shop - just sold today for $110! Thrifting is still a Gold Rush as far as I'm concerned :P
Time for a Podcast guys ☑️👀
I saw an Adelaide Strikers BBL player issue jersey in a store today at $9 but passed on it. I thought about it but it had some small graze holes around the tummy area. Looked like someone had dived on the pitch for a quick single. Otherwise in good condition. No number on the back though. No comps on it.
My husband likes watching Gold Rush. You had a cracking deal there. 🏴🏴🏴🏴
Gold Rush ! .. love your vids. You’re so inspiring and have been a big help in the eBay journey
Gold Rush is at the top of my wanted list xx loving the channel thanks for all your advise.
Hey Matt, I grew up in a GOLD RUSH city BALLARAT Vic. I have GOLD fever 😊
The wiggles is obvs ur guilty pleasure…….
Know u were joking ….. but it was funny.
To be fair it seems you get far far better finds for far far cheaper prices where u live so if John the commenter is in melbourne I can somewhat / slightly understand his point BUT we just have to go to more stores and spend much longer trying to find bargains….. i agree though thrifting is NOT DEAD. Its just harder than it used to be and u have to spend time learning categories. And find other ways to get stock which both you and I have. Plus you have good manners and so do I so that also helps trying to build connections. Good on u, youre doing well. That St Andrews hat should do well
GOLD RUSH!!!! I'll be screaming that out the next time I go for a thrift.
What a gold rush glad to see you back at the thrift stores great video thanks for sharing matt
Thrifting is all I do lol I’m not sure what John is on about.
I love that gold rush show but didn’t realise it was worth so much!
They make me want to go searching for gold 🙈😂
#GoldRush
I live in Nz, I dont think, thrifting, is dead here, you just gotta know, what too look for, stick to a niche, includung garage sales, estate sales anywhere other then 2nd hand stores aswell and there is money to be made. Commitment & attitude, go a long way.
Great DVD hauls Interesting prices on the ER series I'll have to check my stash. Gold Rush :)
A John Doe is a John Doe...
The haters will never forget to tell you that they are hurting ...
Happy hunting
Big flips, baby. Big Flips!
✌🎃🤘
Thrift stores are dead if you’re looking for the same old same old generic stuff. Most people have knowledge that there’s more that sells on ebay other than DVDs and shoes. Having knowledge across a broad range of items makes it easier to source.
Gold rush on the Gold Coast!!! Great finds as always, the thrift is alive!!!!
GOLD RUSH!
We love your videos and your great attitude! Keep up the good work mate 🤙
I wish my dvd searches were as lucrative as yours, let's see if I can find more gold rush dvds out here in the west
Just as lucrative in the west. Picked up pretty much the same gold rush series last week.
Was that Tweed Heads where all the oppies where?. I have not been there for 30y so l am probably wrong.
You has a Goldrush of finds today
Always stuff in the thrift John.. I sold $2 pair of ladies pants took offer of 90 ..some days you find stuff some times you don't just keep trying
He probably lives in a town in the middle of nowhere or something.
don’t think I’ve seen Gold Rush when Im thrifting but I’ll look out for it for sure now
You are the man Matt, another bagger. Hope this video brings everyone a Goldrush !!!!!
only focus on DVD's and games really, but seem to make a solid enough as a small side hobby - you could say the couple of "gold rush" days make up for the days you find nothing
