Actually, the one's with round heads are Goombas. The one's with lizard heads are Koopa Troopas.
It's one of my favorite movies from my childhood. I just love how textured and odd it feels, especially with the design of the Goombas. There's just something about it that makes me happy.
I actually had a fever dream where I was locked in a room Like this with machines that were turning people into toothpicks and I eventually got turned into one and that was my new life. Til I woke up.
I can swear to almighty God that this particular scene has been lingering in my mind for a very very long time. I just did not know it was from this movie, even though I have heard about the name later. When I was young, this movie was kinda weird (oh of course it was) to me, and this scene haunted me. Now when suddently by chance I see it again, it was not that scary at all, just hilarious. Lol. It is true that your perspective change through time.
animegame100 The cast also got drunk while in film to sound more Italian plus they don't wanna remember the nightmare that SMB the Movie is. Even I'm guilty to loving the movie.
Thanks to this scene, every time I hear someone play/sing "Somewhere My Love", all I see is a crowded elevator with slow dancing Goombas and Koopa Troopas.
When I was little with my twin brother we laughed like crazy because of this scene! Now I am 16 years old since childhood a big fan of mario and I still love this film it was part of my childhood.
This movie has such a great aesthetic. It’s gritty and dark, yet not self serious and clearly has fun with itself. A lot of people don’t like this because it’s radically different from its source material, but it’s important to view this as a reimagining of Mario, not a traditional adaptation. And as a reimagining, its very fun, very creative, and the production value is amazing. If this wasn’t associated with the franchise it’s based off of, this would definitely be received a lot more fondly. It kind of reminds me of Star Wars. Definitely doesn’t deserve the hate.
I always dug it. Still do. It was an incredibly bizarre move and I know that the entire cast despised it, but I appreciate that it did took such a major risk by doing something original with a very safe property.
I honestly really like their designs. They're so intimidating yet so cool looking. It may not resemble the source material, but it's a nice and unique take.

Bob H and John L were both really great as Mario and Luigi, they actually pulled off wearing the outfits very well! This movie could have been awesome if they would have stuck to the game more and the environment of it.
TheDUDERulez1 The main problem was the directors. They were extremely hard to work with, Hoskins stated this as the main reason he didnt enjoy doing this movie. Leguizamo, in 2012, personally video addressed the audience of a midnight viewing of the film, stating that he was proud the movie still had life, and appreciates those who liked it.
In fairness, it’s generally considered next to impossible to make a faithful Mario live-action film with today’s movie technology, let alone the time this one was made. Hell, credit where credit’s due, the movie had fantastic effects (yoshi’s design was basically the Source for Jurassic Park, and the Goomba head models were extremely detailed and practical; Hell, even the t-Rex had an awesome animatronic, just bad angle-work). Miyamoto himself enjoyed the movie but could see its flaws. His biggest critique was that the movie did half-measures; if it had been its own original IP, then it wouldn’t have needed been bogged down by the Mario references, and stood on its own two feet.
Thinking about it after wasting my time watching it. I think you're right with your post. Not saying much since Ghostbuster ls 2016 is utter trash either way.

This was clearly a shout out to how the enemies would "dance" to the music in NSMB. Pretty impressive how they would reference a game that wouldn't come out for another 15 years.
I honestly think the director/writer got Goombas and Koopas mixed up when they made this movie, amongst the other mess of things they just decided to make weird as fuck. The creatures in this movie are clearly reptiles (like turtles, aka koopas would be), but are referred to as Goombas even though Goombas were always little glaring mushroom dudes you jump on.
Danielle Fischer ahah you don't say! Never knew that, always figured them for shrooms for obvious reasons (the shape, and it being Mario). Nintendo was on some drugs when they came out with a lot of their original characters tho I mean gaddamn, a springloaded plumber n shit
VariantNode I actually like the designs of the goombas and koopa troops in this movie. I think it would be even more weird to see them as they look in game on screen as something big enough to be considered a threat. It's creative and cool looking and their little heads do resemble goombas, so I like it a lot.
I remember as a kid finding the Goombas scary. They're so big and tall, it's really tense and intimidating imagining if they were to notice Mario and Luigi
This scene stayed in the recesses of my mind for the longest time. I remember being so creeped out by it, I think I also had some nightmares about the goombas. It's just so weird... Of course, now it's just hilarious, but to a 4-5 yr old me it was nightmare fuel
Fun Fact: The Mario and Luigi actors in this movie knew it sucked. As a result, they would often get drunk and go through with the scenes anyway. This is one of those scenes.
Fuck you on about atleast they didnt have the abomination goombas atleast in the aniamted movie it will have normal goombas and have good mario voices then these 2

For me it's umpa lumpas
Goomba Loompas
3:36 - “TEN HUT!!!” (Goombas snapped out of it) “ FORWARD MARCH!!!”
ATTENTION!
"I got em from pop"...
His dad in the new movie coming out is the original voice actor and the actual Mario in the movie is Chris Pratt which makes this funnier knowing he was taught by the OG lmao
1:15
*Writers:* What do you think I am stupid?
*Me:* Yes!
I don't care what anyone says, I love this movie!!!
THIS MOVIE SUCKS!!!!
wave the wolf it does
I am glad you love sucky ass movies.:)
1:48 Golden Eye memories are coming
Oh gosh I hated those cameras.
Amuki Producciones lol
Ah yes, that 90s alarm sound. I remember it from 007.
And SA2.
3:36 "TEN HUT!!!!"
3:40 "FORWARD MARCH!!!!"
(LOL)
🤣
This was clearly a shout out to how the enemies would "dance" to the music in NSMB. Pretty impressive how they would reference a game that wouldn't come out for another 15 years.
Who else here after the new movie was announced
It’s been announced since way back in 2018
Since when were goombas and koopas tall?
since when were they short? They've always been as tall as Mario and Luigi.
It's creative and cool looking and their little heads do resemble goombas, so I like it a lot.
or reptilian??
I remember as a kid finding the Goombas scary. They're so big and tall, it's really tense and intimidating imagining if they were to notice Mario and Luigi
This scene stayed in the recesses of my mind for the longest time. I remember being so creeped out by it, I think I also had some nightmares about the goombas. It's just so weird... Of course, now it's just hilarious, but to a 4-5 yr old me it was nightmare fuel
I don’t care what ppl say about this damn movie but I absolutely loved it as a kid & still do too this day
This movie seemed like the concept of the Mario video games was described to the writers and director by a person with chronic schizophrenia.
I don't know why but this scene is hilarious.
i know why.
You'll be missed, Bob.
This is one of the best movies ever made, I don’t care about any other opinions, it’s a masterpiece
"Look at 'dis! It's a plumbah's nightmare! Dese pipes haven't been serviced for years!"
That voice that Mario in this live-action is better voice than Chris Paul's voice
Fun Fact: The Mario and Luigi actors in this movie knew it sucked. As a result, they would often get drunk and go through with the scenes anyway. This is one of those scenes.
i dont see it
Imagine trying to make Goombas dancing while you're drunk
People are going to appreciate this movie for the masterpiece it was now with the crappy Illumination film.
It hasn’t even come out yet
"Masterpiece" implies this movie is worth more than about 1-2 stars!
Fuck you on about atleast they didnt have the abomination goombas atleast in the aniamted movie it will have normal goombas and have good mario voices then these 2
Despite this movie failing, I thought it was really good. The best scene is the reveal of them wearing their trademark colors, Mario in red, Luigi in green.
I'm gonna tell my kids this is a normal day in Italy
Just saw this move for the first time to day, i nearly died laughing :P
Seven years later and I see it has still affected you. Lmao.
It's garbage and yet it's great all the same.
@@Th3BigBoy lol yeah! Looking forward to see what the new mario movie will be like!
@@Johnfranorge I guarantee the illuminations movie will be mediocre and boring. I genuinely love this film unironically. Yeah, it's a mess, but it's a fun mess. It's entertaining as all hell and ambitious as fuck and I have nothing but respect for it. I genuinely think this is a great movie and I think people are way too harsh on it.
@@Johnfranorge I had seen her when I was 6 years old with my twin brother for the first time in my life. Today, 10 years later I am 16 and I see them again with a friend of mine and my twin brother. Well know what? I still love this movie and it's still funny. Even after 10 years where I know the mario universe even better I still like this movie
I love how that one Goomba walks in at the end and is like "What the f*ck is happening?"
Sadly this movie was more of an origin story. If anyone actually watched it till the end they'd realize it was setup for a sequel that would have been much closer to the Mario we know and love
The song is "Somewhere My Love" from the Lawrence Welk show. It's an amazingly lofi
I haven't seen this movie in a long time , probably every since I was a kid , I used to watch it all the time !!
Ahh memories. I know this movie is terrible, but I have fond memories loving it as a little kid.
I've been humming this song to my daughter for the last 8 months since she's been born to get her to fall asleep and completely forgot I knew it from here until tonight when UA-cam recommended the video to me.
What song is it?
