Thanks for a deal's gap video without an agenda. Not anti-cop, anti-truck or anti-Harley, no peg scraping, no speeding, no crashes. Just a normal biking couple enjoying a great ride on a great road! I really got a good feeling of what the whole ride is actually like. Thanks again.
for those who have not been to US 129, Deal`s Gap, this road can be a blast to ride. Even at "normal" speeds. Will bite you hard if you show it no respect.people do get hurt here.Have seen all kinds of bikes and you must ride your ride. We all love to ride and that is what counts. this just happens to be a great road to ride. Just be safe .Keep the shiney side up!!
Hermoso... nada mejor para el que disfruta de una moto como esa, tengo un HONDA PACIFIC COAST y no veo la hora para disfrutarla asi como ustedes disfrutaron tan bella moto Beautiful ... nothing better for enjoying a bike like this, I have a HONDA PACIFIC COAST, and I can not wait to enjoy it as well as you enjoyed such a beautiful bike
I used to ride a Majesty. I had a red 2006 and I always wondered if I could do the dragon on it. I've ridden the dragon twice now on my motorcycle, a 2007 Suzuki Boulevard and I believe I could have done it on the Majesty too. I have seen a video on here of a silver Majesty reaching the top. Happy riding! I think you can do it.
+DrJekyl30 If the passenger is experienced you actually can only benefit from it as grip on rear wheel increases. Not that it is needed on a bike like this but still :)
No reason not to brake in turns unless you don't have the skill to properly trail brake. The MSF teaches you not to do so because most riders aren't going to benefit by doing so and it can cause more trouble than benefit. On most streets, you can simply brake before the turn and be fine. On tighter roads and especially with reducing radius curves, trail braking can serve to settle the bike and allow higher entry speeds. Nice ride!
LoL…why does everyone have to call this an "old man" bike or a Road Sofa….Just bought one myself. Been riding a cruiser last 12yrs and I can say this Wing handles 10times better than my Shadow Sabre and would leave it in the dust..LOL…it's a great machine and We anticipate(me and wife) having some great experiences on it just as this right here on the Dragon. I'm whipping thru curves faster than I ever have on my Sabre…and if 50 is old…I guess I'm old..LOL Great Vid Allen! and I'm keeping the Cruiser as well…I guess so I can feel young? LOL..Righhhhhht...
I guess some people consider a goldwing an "old man's" bike, but I consider it to be an awesome barcalounger bike, but never could quite get either the heel toe shifter, or the reverse button feature on that bike, although I have considered getting a used goldwing as my next bike, so I can experience it for myself. :-)
renegadebiker24 There are times such as my driveway that has incline, the reverse is a MUST for backing bike in. As for heel/toe shifter...u either love it or hate it! Now that I'm use to it, I love it. Gonna have to hop over the Bridge from Memphis one day and meet up with you and ride sometime!
MemphisMike Yeah, i live on an incline too. Hmmm, yeah that is true about the heel toe shifter. I think if I get a goldwing as my next motorcycle, i might just stick with the standard clutch pedal.Cool, I would like that. Would you be coming for Bikes, Blues, and BBQ??? That is not far from my home.
MemphisMike My dad used to ride GoldWings (1200 & 1500) back in the days, when he was around 35-45. Some years he had the 1200 and he had his 1500 for almost 6 years. So much for the "old man's bike". It just depends on your riding-style. Doesn't matter if you're young or old: When you're into long-distance roadtrips, a GoldWing definately has to be on the top 3 choices. PS: Put a rider on the Wing that know whats up and you go and humiliate some of these boys on their crotch rockets (aka sportbikes).
One of the nicer relaxing videos of the Tail of the Dragon, especially if one wants to show a video to someone who hasn't been there before. Quite enjoyable not seeing the riders crossing yellow lines at every opportunity. I do, however, have to agree with ZX6Rider as to age and Goldwings... I'm 50 and not even close to giving up my ZX6R-636 for a touring bike. (Although I quite enjoy a leisurely ride on my wife's Burgman 650 "scooter" from time to time.) There are many places in the area where it's nice to sit in a relaxed position and take in the scenery... IMHO, the Dragon isn't one of them, it's the road and only the road that is the attraction.. :)
That was actually Yellow Wolfs wing you're heaing, he was filming my wife and I, but you're right it does sound nice! If you listen closely it sounds to me like it has turbo, kind of a whistling noise :-)
Nice video and cruise, what a day to remember! Ignore the haters, if it isn't your bike they're trashing it's your riding. They are compelled to do this to feel better than you in their own eyes. They are small people.
Nice engine sound, muted to be sure, but lots of potential with the right aftermarket pipes. Was the chase/camera vehicle a 6 cylinder Goldwing, as well?
My dad took out a bunch of guys and their 600 and 1000 CC bikes on a road trip one day. I know because I was riding with that group of guys who couldn't beat him and my mom. Passed is like we're standing still and we couldn't keep up.
they r great bikes that's for sure. on that road its all about the riders skill level. ive seen a Goldwing go very quickly through the dragon before. look up yellow wolf and you will see what I mean.
I don't know Mike, I have an Ultra Classic and an "old man's bike " is what I call it. I also have an R6 and a 1400 Suzuki Intruder and an 83 Wing with a sidecar. The big bikes weigh more and aren't as easy to throw around but I ride lots of long trips and I sure do appreciate the road sofa, along with the CD player and the cruise control. I also appreciate the storage there. I don't understand why some guys think there is only one kind of motorcycle to ride and if you aren't on it there is something wrong with your testicle size or something. I want to ride every one that I see.
Nice job, doing it not only on a big cruiser but with a passenger! No wonder your wife feels so safe. :) Nice rumble on your bike, too. What kind of pipes are those?
cbfunk, wanna bring yours and see how well you do on an 800+ lb bike in those steep curves 2 up? I touched the yellow one time unintentionally, the other 4 times were passing other vehicles and once in a straightaway.
I have always wanted to do that ride, would have been easier to get there when I lived in Virginia. My only quibble, is that camera view does show how often the lead bike is Braking In The Curve no no no :-( :-(
Great vedio, I just back into riding and love my GW. Heck I like all bikes but cant afford them all. One thing I will not do is bad mouth a rider or his bike. May one day I'll get lucky and win the lotto. Remember the cagers dont care about us let alone watch for us. I'll end with, live to ride, love the ride, ride safe, wear your helmet, safety gear, but most of all enjoy the ride, watch your 360 for cagers.
:_: My grandpa has a GORGEOUS Goldwing and I've been secretly praying he'll retire from riding in the near future and let me take 'er out for a spin. This would be my first major trip.
Looks like a nice relaxing ride through the woods, about what you would expect from a road sofa. Nothing against the bike, ride what you love but I mean put the title as "Cruising Deals Gaps" or something, not something misleading. And a side note: using your age as a reason to have a Goldwing is pretty lame, my father still refuses to give up his sport bike in his late 50s!
Nothing misleading about the title - check it again. Let's see your old man carry a passenger plus gear for both him and his passenger on a 2 week road trip covering 500 miles a day...... Not going to happen.
My old man, actually rides a sport bike. He has about as much interest in road sofas even at his age, as I do. Give us a couple of road sofas though and we'll put those numbers to shame, I guarentee it.
ZX6RIDER I BELIEVE YOUR ALL MOUTH yellow wolf holds the time title on what you call a road sofa look it up hahaha i love it when you young studs know so much
+ZX6Rider Big talk. "Give" you a "road sofa" with 110 hp, HUGE torque, 960 pounds plus rider(s) PLURAL, plus gear in THREE storage areas and YOU'LL show us something? Riiiiiiighhhhtttt. sheesh. Meanwhile, you're riding a bike that has you bent into a fetal position, gives your passenger hemorrhoids (IF someone can get on that thing), you have to wear a backpack to carry a lunch, and you have to mail your luggage ahead of you on a three day trip. Give it up...we aren't all riding for the same reasons, so don't insult others about their riding styles or choices unless you're ready to take the same crap back. Have a nice day, now, and keep both wheels on the pavement.
i would love to ride the dragon with you and mary and yellow wolf I've seen quite a few of his vid and he can ride that road like no other I've seen I've been there about 6 times so far and i won't ride it past the speed limit because the riders on the crotch rockets cross over the lines and ride un safe i ride a honda vfr sport tour
id like to have a bike that sounds like that when im older and can afford it but prolly since im young id like to have a loud rumblin harley...if not that then a crotch rocket
Chad ,when you're in your late 40's you don't put you wife on a sport bike and ride 1200 miles in a week, you ride the comfortable and agile Goldwing. For its size and weight handles extremely well in the corners, we've ridden many thousands of miles with no accidents and have had a great time doing so. If you experienced it, then don't knock it..you'll probably be doing the same the when you're older, as for the dumb-ass part, well I be nice this time! :-)
The Gold wing rider was good. But how about the rider with the camera? He shot the entire center portion of the video looking behind him without running off a corner.
Yeah well... the bike is performant enough but this is juist cruising corners. You got some torque but the heavy handling and most of all the ridiculous road clearance force you to corner like that. Nothing you can do... it's the limitations of that bike.
@yellowwolf108 Sorry bro, just now seeing this, I must have an old email attached. Your welcome , would love to do it again, been awhile since we've been to the gap!
Too close to the yellow line for my liking. Best advice I ever got was to NOT hug the center line. Watch how many other riders and cars going the other way do the same.
Guy in front braking through every corner, lay off brakes an use gearing an rpm, counter steering through turns. Start slow enough he doesn't need to brake through corners, then gradually increase speed to continue laying off brakes!
Wow pretty sloppy riding. I suggest you read some books by David Hough before you get hurt. FYI I have 37 years experience riding - over 500,000 miles.
Sloppy riding? lol I didn't see 'competition' in the video title. They were scraping the limits of that bike around those corners and staying within their own lane. I hope you know to keep that attitude strictly within the safety and anonymity of the internet and know not to run your condescending mouth like that in public, you know, before you get hurt...
I stopped watching it early when he was almost across the yellow line in that curve..good thing he didn't meet anyone on the other side...and all that down shifting??? Not needed...I ride an 07 wing..had one since 82...been riding since i was 16 and I'm 59 now...Keep your training wheels on pal...come ride the mountain roads of East Ky and Wv...then you can ride the dragon with style..at least you'll look like you know what you're doing.. "lol" be safe until you get your wings!!

Nice video. Never...ever....under estimate the CBR1100XX Blackbird!!! Long lve Honda.
Allen - Nice riding! Some people don't know or appreciate what it's like to handle a 950 lb. bike WITH a rider. Good Job!
hey very cool to see this!!!! you are one of 124 videos i did that year, thanks for posting and good job on the riding!!!!
Hermoso... nada mejor para el que disfruta de una moto como esa, tengo un HONDA PACIFIC COAST y no veo la hora para disfrutarla asi como ustedes disfrutaron tan bella moto

beautifull man!just beautifull! an that engine sound!!!perfect!😁
Man that was an awsome display of riding skills in my opinion. Not only on a big@$$ goldwing but with a passenger.

Man, Honda should make a flat six and put it in one of their cars. That boxer engine sounds great in the Goldwing.
LoL…why does everyone have to call this an "old man" bike or a Road Sofa….Just bought one myself. Nice ride with great sound! I like the view from the camera mount.
very nice sound,,great ride

Yellow Wolf is who filmed this 😁
Is that the stock exhaust... great sound? I am salivating the 2012 Wings !!
Love how he brakes on the turns
That'd be Yellow Wolfs exhaust, of course I have a set out in the garage that sounds just like em, but that is his you're hearing.
This video would make a great Honda commercial.
Bike sound nice. Is there an aftermarket exhaust on it?
Not really into the big tourer thing myself, but nice vid all the same, that 6 cyclinder growl was awesome,
man your bike sounds NICE.
Fun ride! I see this is filmed by Yellow Wolf. Is he still around?

YW - is that the Alley Kat exhaust?
yes it is a first gen stainless, love it

:_: My grandpa has a GORGEOUS Goldwing and I've been secretly praying he'll retire from riding in the near future and let me take 'er out for a spin. This would be my first major trip.
@yellowwolf108 I wish you still did the videos down there. i'd love to get one of me on my 2009 concours14.
Braking as necessary, thousands of mile in the mountains and never laid it down yet. I'm not say I won't tomorrow, just saying I haven't yet. :-)
its a public road that the locals have deal with, its not a race way,you want race enviroment go to the race track

I want to see a speedo reading. Things look a lot faster closer to the ground.
all that and never breaks the speed limit
This guy throws this bike around (with a passenger!) almost like it's a crotch rocket. I'd imagine this is about the top limit for this bike.....
id like to have a bike that sounds like that when im older and can afford it but prolly since im young id like to have a loud rumblin harley...if not that then a crotch rocket

This is the entire 11 miles and 318 curves at "Deals Gap" Top speed around 80 mph.
Anytime my friend I log over 20K a year on my bikes and I drive a car to work everyday. I've been 30+ yrs. from moto cross to drag strips.

On his gl1800 that is
wow listen to that thing.. hahaha!
You try it...on anything.
To see what this video would be like if the GL1800's were of the fastest color..aka YELLOW, speed this video up at least 25%
Too close to the yellow line for my liking. Best advice I ever got was to NOT hug the center line. Watch how many other riders and cars going the other way do the same.
11miles, 318 curves, 1 gear (1st)......
bring it on roadless lol
Relax... why can't she get in on the fun too?
East Tn & Western Nc

Pretty awesome but I don't agree doing it with your wife on the back. No need to put her at risk.
shouldn't be braking in the turns like you are !!! get it done before the turns
I'm sorry but I don't get it. Margin of error is zero. Irresponsible riding should not be applauded, especially when you can harm others seriously.
