- Wat Arun, officially named Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan, is a Buddhist temple (wat) located on the Thonburi west bank of the Chao Phraya River. The temple derives its name from the Hindu god Aruna, who is often associated with the radiations of the rising sun. It is believed that King Taksin arrived at this temple just as dawn was breaking and decided to renovate the temple to house the Emerald Buddha. #watarun #temple #bangkokthailand
