- Sri Lanka, which is slowly recovering from its worst economic crisis, will vote to elect its next president on Sept 21. The island nation is currently led by Ranil Wickremesinghe who took over in 2022 amid unrest. Wickremesinghe is seeking re-election reportedly crediting himself for stabilising the economy. He claims to have ended shortages of food, fuel, and medicine since taking office in 2022.
