  • Standing watch for 80 years, I finally give the tower the Smith Treatment ;)
"The primary mission was to identify and detect enemy shipping and submarine movements that sunk an average of a ship per week during the peak of the war in the mid 1940's. Nazi submarine "wolf-packs" of 7 subs or more would randomly attack American or Allied flagged vessels that jammed the busy shipping lanes with war supplies, troops and cargo en route to Europe."
Leave it to me to find these pieces of history and give them the Smith Cinematic Treatment - be it a tall ship, lighthouse, historic structure or even a WWII sub hunting tower ;)
Thank you ML Baron for the historical info, and always being on top of news in the area!

    WEST ISLAND TOWER CELEBRATES 80-YEARS!
*ML'S Note: Highly acclaimed maritime drone pilot Ryan Smith, usually chasing ships of all kinds in the Cape Cod Canal and beyond, ventured to West Island Town Beach and gave the 80-year old Fire Control tower from WWII the "Smith" touch. Magnificent!

Nice. Visited there many, many moons ago. Any chance you flew over the causeway leading to the Island?
