Dave,
The "Fixed/Variable" switch is for the line "output" level, not the input level.
Ahhh good to know. Thanks for the clarification.
Hey, Dave! Thanks for the neat review, and thanks a ton for “limoncello”! I’m going to use it on my Linux and Mac. 🙌
I couldn't find limoncello anywhere... Where can I get the firmware for Linux?
I would reach out to ifi Audio's customer service to get the correct link for the Linux software. When you get the link, please do post it here for others to benefit!

This is the answer that I got from iFi:
Thank you for getting in touch regarding your ZEN DAC 3, I think perhaps there has been a misunderstanding. The firmware you are referring to (Limoncello) is only compatible with the original ZEN DAC as far as I know and has no link to Linux. Linux should work great with the ZEN DAC 3, straight out of the box.
Best regards,
Liam
The particular firmware is Firmware 7.2b - DSD512 (Limoncello)
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing the update.
can a volume be adjusted from Windows via its volume control in the right lower corner, or it only works by turning a knob on the ZenDac 3 unit? Thanks
EDIT - I have the answer to my question, adjusting volume using Windows controls, like the knob on your keyboard, does NOT do anything, you HAVE to turn the knob on the device! To me, it is a pass.
Yes, you should be able to do that, but generally you should get better results (less noise) by using the DAC/Amp volume control, esp. if you want to crank it up.
@@AskDaveTaylor "should be able" doesn't answer my question does it. connect and check - answers my question
Well, okay, that's an attitude. Why don't you ask ifi Audio this specific question?
