3 people from the days when a star was someone who had great talent, not just someone who went into a house for 10 weeks with a bunch of other nobodies and made their reputation by behaving badly. They were marvellous and I could listen to them all day.
Great memories from all three - including the host, Denis. Beryl often played a lot of battleaxes in her career, but here as herself she is rather an attractive, witty, polite middle aged lady. Thanks for uploading and reminding us what true TV and stage stars were.
Lovely, a quiet chat with diverse friends. Nice the way they start asking each other questions it's more like a dinner conversation than an interview show. We should have stuff like this on the BBC today instead of the junk that they pass off for TV these days.
Watching that interview I think that was the best I've ever seen. You couldn't get any more diverse set of people than Alan Whicker and Beryl/Frankie. They all seemed totally relaxed, like a quiet evening with friends
I feel so privileged to have grown up during the days when these great entertainers /actors/comedians were regulars on TV and film. These were real stars. Real celebrities. Real talents. Not just faces on the TV from nowhere, as it is nowadays. I especially love watching Frankie Howerd. He never failed/fails to make me laugh. What a comic genius.
Wow, I was only 4 at the time. I remember all these greats well and Norden is a great host, I only remember him presenting It'll Be Alright On The Night. RIP Legends of yesteryear.
Always enjoyed the programme even though I was only in my 20s, used to get some wonderful guests, like these three; couldn't have it now with the nonentities in the entertainment business.
Did anyone mention Frankie Howard in 'Variety Bandbox'? I think it was broadcast on a BBC radio station The Light Programme, (?) Frankie shared the top billing once a fortnight with Dereck Roy (?)
Look at these three superstars on afternoon TV in the 1970s. These days we get people who are covered in tattoos and who have had it away on a beach. 🤦♂️
the runaway bus is notable for two reasons one is its margaret rutherfords only part as a villainess! the other was despite its tiny budget at the end it underran by 7 minutes and would not be accepted by the cinemas as a first feature but rather a b picture support which would drastically effect the profits as it could sit around for years waiting to be teamed with a big movie or not shown at all!the profits on the b picture were miniscule also. no problem said frank ill use the telephone box.he then still on the foggy set went into a phone box and ad libbed a hysterically funny phone call which ma de up the missing minutes and made it a feature presentation. oddly now for ad breaks and time spot the scene that saved the film was often cut f to fit the slot so it isnt always seen when it pops up on tv
I was at tottenham court road studios on the looks familier show in 1976 with Mr nordon beryl reed yolan donlon val guest jimmy tarbuck his dad was there dennis always go XYZ before a show examine your zip what a hero
Beryl stood up to the GREAT Alex Guiness and as he feared upstaged her or at Least equalled her as NONE of the other actors in Tinker Tailor DID ...Guiness was like all us not without his imperfections but in this instance the egotism of the actor was overcome by an almost unconscious imperative despite his conscious judgement, he set up for all time a few minutes of almost sublime engagement between Beryl, the personification of the age old traditions of ' old live theatre' and whatever it was that Guiness represented..
Love how when Spitting Image started, taking the p1ss out of the Royal Family . Nobody knew what the Queen Mother talked like, so they went with Beryl Reid
Frankie Howerd | Beryl Reid | Denis Norden | Alan Whicker | Looks Familiar | 1978 1122am 16.5.23 is there a place for such light televisual programming wherein stars of stage and screen come into chat about their formative years etc etc etc...? probably. though hollywood eggs probably would scupper that kindda caper... do we have the talent to chat to? yes, we do. i like beryl reid for other reasons - though she did star in that horror film... which featured in a comic strip in a horror comic - of all publications - about some deformed beast imprisoned in the cellar or was it the attic? i mean... kids who cant find work or cant be arsed going into college would enjoy this kindds stuff? hmmmmmm... probably not... but we would.

I'd forgotten how funny Beryl Reid was.
And I could listen to Alan Whicker talk for hours.

All FOUR of these amazing people are now gone 🥺🥺 this is all we have left memories THANKS FOR SHARING X
OMG I saw Frankie in that pantomime in Sheffield, he was brilliant!
Love this - saw Frankie live at High Wycombe who was a judge at a beauty contest, along with Brian Cant. Frankie did a impromptu act, I loved it.
Thank you for uploading the video. Lovely to see all these people again. Beryl Reid was wonderful in The Entertaining of Mr Sloane.
My favourite film!
These 3 i could listen to for a day, real talent
Bless you Beryl , I loved her in Entertaining Mr Sloane .
Me too! Absolutely hilarious she was in that film.
I was lucky enough to see her on stage in the play. That was in 1974 or 1975 at the Duke of York’s.
Also Sister George - terrific!
@@MrDavey2010 Mr.Sloane and Sister George - fabulous!
Connie Sachs with George Smiley.
Thank you! I could of watched another 2 hours of this!
Nat Elliott-Ross Me too !
This is pure pleasure

Four legends for sure 😉
RIP Frankie Howerd my comedy hero.
was a well known predator though, as told by Bob Monkhouse.
Great to see these great stars reminiscing.
Beryl Reid - what a class act. So talented. In Entertaining Mr Sloane - such dry/camp humour. Chris Dudley 🌻

Excellent clip with Denis Norden and guests, all dead now sadly.
Fascinating discussion
Excellent .
Superb

Interesting people.... interested stories... now we have ‘The Last Leg’
Did anyone mention Frankie Howard in 'Variety Bandbox'? I think it was broadcast on a BBC radio station The Light Programme, (?) Frankie shared the top billing once a fortnight with Dereck Roy (?)
Who used to announce himself as , ' the golden boy, Roy ' .
Oh man, that sofa is quintessential 70s.
Fabulous chat but that set... Omg!
The style of interviews that are sadly lacking on TV, nowadays ...
Just getting into it when it ended....:(
Celebrities of yesteryear the antithesis of present day so called celebrities
And so say all of us.
Look at these three superstars on afternoon TV in the 1970s. These days we get people who are covered in tattoos and who have had it away on a beach. 🤦♂️
I loved fullstop ⭐️🐈⭐️
In its day a star line up , nowadays it would be a love island contestant , winner of bake off and some wannabe who came 6th in Britain’s Got Talent.

Thank you. I'm just sittng agog at 4 perfect speakers of English, all from England. The best days of the UK lie ahead.
Beryl Reid doing Margret Rutherford, classic
Anybody got a time machine?
Better than Graham Norton this week
Better than Norton any week, I cannot understand why any tv or radio station would employ him.
Oh god yes!😂
From the days when we actually had class talent
I was at tottenham court road studios on the looks familier show in 1976 with Mr nordon beryl reed yolan donlon val guest jimmy tarbuck his dad was there dennis always go XYZ before a show examine your zip what a hero
Those were the days.
Why bits are chopped out I don't know.
sweet
A smashing looking woman was beryl 😊

Bloody damn meerkat adverts!

Can't believe Moon Cat wasn't invited !!!
Not bad, but there's a lot of this missing.

Back then, stars like these could simply come together and entertain, without a great egotistical hullabaloo...
So much brown my eyes hurt..
Especially on Frankie, including his suntan!
I can see sage green, royal blue, orange.. are you retinally challenged?
@@Lytton333 bless lol
The 70s was riddled with it. And orange. 😂
.
All of them. Completely dead.
FRANKIE BENT AS A 9 BOB NOTE
So? What is your point? Do all people in the public eye have to be ' straight '?
Thank god he is - he's legend. Up Pompei was wonderful.
Who cares,a really funny man, what has his sexuality got to with it.
