there is something truly transcendent about people from various different backgrounds/situations getting together and performing a song. one of life's joys in it's purest form.
My buddy, Mark, and I were at this show. If you're in the L.A. area, check on the Largo website. If you see that the Paul F. Tompkins Show is on the schedule, BUY A TICKET... AND ONE FOR A FRIEND! You'll be happy that you did, and it'll make you a better person.
I did a search to find this after a few friends were talking about this performance on twitter tonight. First time seeing this, and I loved it!! How fun!
Hi There! Thanks for taking a look at our clip. The bearded penny whistle player is Dave “Gruber” Allen. I do not know if he was in the phenomenal Paul Rust show Love, but he is an accomplished actor!
Unfortunately as cool as that would be I think that's Sean Watkins, since Paul names everyone at the end and doesn't mention Patton. He looks almost exactly like Patton, but I know they're friends and he'd give Patton the same treatment he gives Al, an extremely enthusiastic shout.
The audio is from the board feed in-house. There was no control after the fact to manipulate individual channels. It is unfortunately reliant upon each performer's proximity to their microphone.
Paul F. Tompkins doing a Pogues cover with Ted Leo and Weird Al? My fever dreams have become real - and I love it

Something that a lot of musicals seemed to pick up on.
Oh damn. Just when I thought I couldn't love PFT more, he sings a sweet song to his Janie!
Weird Al is a tremendous talent. Great accordion player, pretty good singer. Gets the fuck away when the violin solo happens.
This brings me a lot of joy
who else noticed ed helms on the banjo?

The focus and intensity on Weird Al's face at :45 are AWESOME.
When Al isn't trying to be funny you realize what a powerful and expressive singer he can be, even just singing backup.
My first Paul F. Tompkins show!!! Thank you!!!
You're welcome! I hope you've been able to see many more shows at Largo since!
I have! Though I've now moved out of state, I took advantage of my time while there.
This is fabulous - I love watching PFT react to Gruber.
Some of the awesomest people in the world doing two of the awesomest songs in the world. MAN would that show have been fun.
I've had a kind of cry-y day, and this made me tear up. Again.
Me too! Every time!
How have I never seen this before?!
Yay, I was there!
This just made my day.
that was actually really entertaining
I didn't think I could love PFT anymore, then he goes and does this shit.
WHY IS THIS NOT THE MOST VIEWED THING ON UA-cam!?
cuz it's just for us!
I'm a little uneasy about hearing Al sing serious music. haha! He is so cool!
Is that a reel at the end? What a fantastic ditty!!
Anyone else notice Ed Helms on the banjo?? Lol
Awesome!!
Hey my brain concert got to the internet. Thanks computers.
Patton Oswalt on acoustic.
you are incorrect.
THIS IS IMPORTANT... Is that old man with the beard in Love?

He was in Love. He was also the guidance counselor in Freaks and Geeks!

you are correct.
Charming!
It's Weird!
This is pretty great though, right?
the only thing is AL mic is a bit hot

thumbs up if you came from weird al's twitter!
Love it when music stands are used. Contemporary musicians actually reading music? I will be so disappointed if stands are used to hold lyrics only.
Steven likes it!
Oh man, Mr. Rosso's gettin old.
wait a minute.... this isn't funny?
OffhandDelivery No, it is merely musically excellent.
