  • This is the best session of the weekend of 6/8-6/9/24 with NASA-SE at Michelin Raceways Road Atlanta. This session was conducted near the end of the day on Saturday. I found that I ran the best when I started in the front and could get a couple of nice clean hot laps in, and lap 2 was the fastest of the weekend at a very respectable 1:37.72. I had entered the weekend hoping to break 1:40, and managed to do that on my first session, which shows how far I've progressed as a driver, as well as how far the car had come since I started modifying it to be a better track car.
Unfortunately, Sunday was not a good day for me, as I totaled the car coming out of Turn 5. If you look closely, on my first full lap (after the out lap), I oversteer slightly coming out of Turn 5, but keep it successfully under control. Hindsight as it is, that should have told me I was pushing too hard there, but the great lap times made it difficult to hold back. I learned an important--and expensive--lesson.
The Mach 1 is no more.
But, I'm not out of the fight yet... There will be some changes in the future! See y'all in the next video!
The car is a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach 1.
It wasn't originally a Handling Package, but I bought and installed all of the HP goodies, or have upgraded them. Mods include:
BC Forged RS41 wheels, 19x10.5 front, 19x11 rear.
    Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R, 305/30 front, 325/30 rear.
    Ford HP front splitter.
APR GTC-200 rear wing (set to 2nd notch).
Maximum Motorsports Camber Plates (-2.5 deg front).
Borla S-Type cat-back exhaust with exhaust modes and X-pipe.
Steeda drop-in cone engine air filter.
Video taken on a Garmin Catalyst.

Man I'm sorry to hear about your wipe out.. hopefully you're okay!?
I originally watched this video on my TV so I didn't see your notes, but had to circle back on my PC to take some notes... I was thinking 1:37?!? that's insane, must be on slicks.. now I see your mods.. and about the crash.
I'm in a stock 6MT non-HP Mach 1 on PS4S and ran a 1:47 this past weekend in the 100°F heat.. only my 2nd time at RA, so not very many laps there yet. I also try to queue at the front to get few clean laps.
How did you crash? Curbing upset the car and not running TC?
Are you planning to get another Mach 1?

I found your video and notes of the crash.. tires finished + the heat + debris + chasing tenths..... sounds about right. I'm curious to see how the Hagerty claim goes....
My biggest fear is crashing with no insurance (which I rarely purchase.)
      Glad you're okay though, man.

Hagerty claim went fairly well, but delayed due to refinancing issues and title movements. I don't intend to get another Mach 1, despite how fantastic it was on the track. Get insurance! It may be expensive, but if something bad happens, it's cheaper than dealing with it on your own.

Also, 1:47 is respectable! My first outing at RA had a 1:45 best lap on PS4S (305/30 and 315/30) in December. The car definitely had more to give, and I was at the limit of traction on the PS4Ss, so I went to the much better SC3R. If you have a second set of wheels, I'd highly recommend getting a more track-focused tire, like the SC3, RT660, or even just PSC2.

      @@Nastavit yea I'm on 255 and 275.. in 100°F temps..
Some cooler temps would definitely help..
And I do have a set of GT350 wheels. Haven't put tires on them yet, but eyeballing something sticky for those.
With some 305 Cup2s and 60° temps I think I'd be in the 1:39-40 range.. but man those Cup2s are $$$$ for only a few track days.
Seems like I can't even wear out my PS4S.. this set has 12k miles + 7 track days on them and they're still 5/32nds
Idunno how to make a few seconds justify the extra $$$ for Cup2s 🧐🧐

You'll want to be careful and inspect the tires after every session, especially with that many miles and track days. My first set of PS4S began to lose chunks after the 3rd weekend with around 10k daily driving. Just because tread depth is good doesn't mean the tire isn't worn out!
