I honestly don't know why people give Jeff a hard time for reusing jokes. They're hilarious, they're classic for the character, and he reuses them for the new fans.
I agree. The thing is he makes them fresher by having two or more of the characters do the same joke, and they each say it differently. Or he has say Peanut say the same joke differently
@Scout Dawson - Travel Vlogger For 2006 Arguing With Myself, here's how I interpreted it. Guy going to the bathroom when Walter was out: Jeff simply wrote a small bit he could use when anyone got up to leave, which could happen anytime during the show, for a bathroom break or any other reason, meaning sooner or later it would be time to use that bit, so it would be something good to keep in the back until needed. He might have to improv a bit for each unique situation, but he'd have about 95% of it previously planned. Nick Manos's card: Jeff deliberately got ahold of the seating arrangements so he'd know who would be taking front row seats ahead of time. He made sure that at least one of the cards he got from fans who'd be there came from someone who had bought a front seat (or the closest possible to the stage otherwise). Deciding to try Nick, he first talked to the man, asking his name just to make sure it really was Nick. Then he read the card, pretending the whole "Nick" thing was a coincidence. Honestly, it's like Nick was the chosen one for that bit. You're right, the whole thing does feel pretty planned out most of the time, and it seems genius how he pulls it off :) but full-on mistakes in character or speaking, I don't think he really plans those. Like he might write a bit he can use for a specific mistake IF he eventually makes it, like when a puppet's hair falls off, but I don't think he ever does it on purpose when it actually happens. It's more of a saving-face part of the act.
Not only did he reuse that whole bit about "once you're married, all you can do is run to the end of your chain and bark!", but he invented the new grouchy/crotchety old man named Walter, and he did Peanut's bit totally verbatim.
I would have died to see him in a small venue like this one. Now he sells out huge arenas without even flinching. He has a gift and knows it. Thanks for the upload!
I remember this old show in the mid-90's on MTV called the "Half hour comedy hour", and one day Jeff was one of the acts. I remembered mostly the Peanut and Jose routine. for the next TEN YEARS, nobody would have a CLUE what I was talking about, and it was frustrating as hell LOL Then, magically a decade later, he became one of the biggest things ever,... and nobody remembered I was talking about him the whole time. They were telling ME about him, and I was like "dude, I was talking about this guy for years" and they're like "really?.... I don't remember that" .... so frustrating ROFL

I absolutely completely agree with you! 💯 One of the things that I love about his talent and gift is that his characters all evolve and change seamlessly no matter what year or decade we are in. I can watch the same few videos every so often and my ability to sincerely laugh and chuckle at him and his characters never ends. He is so good at writing and creating humor and jokes that so much are so relatable to others and boy can he definitely read an audience and know exactly what to say or do to make everyone laugh.
