Beautiful to hear the Australian perspective on American Exceptionalism/Isolationism and US role in the world (25:30). Sometimes as an American it feels a little embarrassing to be American, and it doesn't help that there's many countries that hate us for our world wide presence and influence. Even our allies seem to grumble sometimes .. but it's wonderful to hear that what we're doing is deeply appreciated and that allies want us to keep doing it. Just a voter here who happened to work in Aerospace & Defense.
I've heard some allies say they need more US outreach - I think this is all you need to do. _Tell_ the American public what it means to you for us to be allies. I think sometimes here in the US we suffer from both too much self criticism, along with the boosterism of America first.

GDay - I was hoping to hear about a vision for Australia as part of the "Pacific Community" together with an explanation of what role AU would play in resolving diplomatic & economic conflicts between China & US who are gearing up for a serious confrontation in the Pacific (not just over Taiwan)...Looks like Mr Marles together with Australia's political establishment is incapable of coming up with an coherant set of policies that challenge the US "Rules Based World Order" ...

Has the defence minister done anything about the Australian oil reserve that’s stored in the US since they are down to 15% to support their economy

Marles' voice sounds like a didgeridoo. How is that? (Speed up the video when he talks if you don't believe me)

Albo should replace Marles as Defence Minister.
Appoint him as 'US Outposted Offence Minister to Australia'. That's what he is.

A very capable and intelligent defence minister who applies a very methodical approach to reshaping the Australian defence force into a modern ,adaptive and effective defence force for a nation with a population of 24 million

All was going well until the 36:00 mark. Then we get Marles saying: We want American leadership.... The promotion of democratic values, the rules based order, of human rights actually I think in so many ways is founded on American leadership."
This model of American leadership, otherwise known as "liberal hegenomy" is what has caused so many US political and military disasters, the war in Ukraine being the latest one. This US caused war and US imposed sanctions (and sabotage of gas pipelines) which are part of it, has lead to profound opposition of powerful countries around the world. Alliances have been strengthened and new alliances formed by countries wishing to protect themselves from US interference in their sovereignty and that of their international trading partners and friends. This has of course weakened US influence in the world and so is bad for Australia.
