Why would you hope for less competition In the USA, you can get a short and wide fold, a tall and narrow fold, and a standard phone aspect ratio. In terms of specs, they're all very similar - each have their own strengths (Google's has the best cameras, OnePlus' is the best at being a standard phone when you want it to be, Samsung's is the most durable). Each have their own flavor of Android. None of them need to change, outside of refinements. Almost everything I've heard someone say they want the Z Fold to do, one of the other two already does - go buy those instead if you want a particular feature. That's literally the whole point of there being different brands competing - diverse options to choose from. If you don't like the Z Fold's aspect ratio, buy a different one. If your problem with it is that you don't think the Fold 6 has enough improvement over your current phone to spend money on it, don't - wait for the 7 or 8. Z Fold is obviously not marketed to people who want to upgrade every year.

And with the foldable market growing, my understanding is that they sold more folding phones this last year than previous years. I'd also be interested to see your source on Z Folds being some of the most returned foldables. Not necessarily disbelieving you, but I'm wondering if instead it's that the Z Fold gets returned distinctly more often than other Samsung phones - which would make sense, because folding phones are expensive and not necessary for most people. I am really looking forward to the Google event to see what new things they have in store. I am really looking forward to the second generation Pixel Fold to see if they have made the needed improvements to hang with the others.
Though i see the z flip and z fold 6's are nearly here, ill probably get a z flip 3 maybe as a little treat for me around Christmas. I kinda just want one to just play around with and as just a secondary phone or something.
I hope the modems are improved on the Tensor G4. I’ll probably go for the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL (if that’s what it’s called) or the Pixel Fold 2 as long as the modem is good. I wonder how good Google insurance is?
Hi Shane! Do you think Google might be trying to challenge the Samsung's release? Could this be an attempt to "steal" some of the Fold 6 potential buyers? I mean in case Pixel Fold 2 announcement is much better received, they could steal the show from Samsung. Why would I buy a Fold 6 that's basically going to be the same device as Fold 5, while I can wait, say, a month and get something cooler, like the new Pixel Fold? Provided, of course, that the new Pixel Fold lives up to the task 😅
The likely move to boring flat and sharp iPhone sides with Pixel 9 is quite disappointing to see indeed. Pixel 8 is by far the most comfortable phone I've ever used, so Hopefully the trend doesn't hang around.
Hey Shane, I dumped my Oneplus Open into a trash can full of water. It lasted there for 30 minutes without any issues. Tomorrow the Open is going into the deep end of a swimming pool for 30 minutes. I will have recordings for both events.
I just finished with my OnePlus Open being in the 8.5 foot (2.59 meter) end of a swimming pool for 32 minutes. Needless to say, it's pretty much waterproof. A drop or two got into the camera housing, but that is it. It works fine. The portrait mode shows the water and won't take decent pictures until the water dries, but that's it.
Looks like the Pixel Fold 2 will have very similar dimensions to the OnePlus Open, AND have wireless charging! All aboard the hype train - I'm a card carrying memeber!
I owned last year's Motorola razor plus and the z flip 5.The moto was so much better. At least for my needs. I'm really thinking about buying the newest Razor with the even bigger outside screen. I really do miss that phone..
my fold 4 inner screen died on tuesday , when you open it turns phone off , taking in to samsung on saturday so fingers crossed , ive got s24 ultra now , gonna stay away from folds until cameras improve and we get IP68 ratings , also proper upgrades to justify prices
I got the chance to hold the Fold 6 in hand a few days ago when my Samsung rep came to visit my store. The phone feels a little lighter than previous gen’s, there will be a new watch ultra which I didn’t get the chance to see, the new buds look like AirPods, didn’t get a chance to see the new flip. Overall decent but I’m not too excited, not really a fold/flip type of guy.

I think the fact they changed the name means they listened to us. Hopefully it's the pixel 9 pro but in a fold version instead of a year old chip and camera lacking etc. I'm hoping it has all the stuff from the pixel 9 pro just in a foldable. Same camera etc everything... Hoping at least. And then I could care less about the naming.
Shane, maybe I am in minority..or alone on this, but the intro music seems to be kinda louder in the recent weeks, and it is annoying, because sometimes your first words are really not easily understandable if I don't listen on headphones or good speakers, but on a phone, and most of the time I watch videos like yours when I do some house chores and have my phone nearby. Keep it there if you must, but a volume notch down please.

Samsung hasn't moved me with their new Fold's. It does feel like they're resting on their laurels. But I can't wait for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold!

The fold 5 has a much more durable hinge than fold 4. It was low key a necessary update

That's pretty much what we've been hearing. I forgot to mention that the earbuds apparently have stems, which I'm actually okay with.
