All these people saying “why didn’t you leave if he was abusive” have no idea of how abuse works. Abuse doesn’t start outright with physical violence, otherwise leaving would be easy. It’s a sinister long con of isolation, gas lighting, taking away means of leaving such as checking phones or keeping tabs on money. It’s about making you lose your sense of self worth, intimidating you. People should educate themselves on abusers tactics and victims stories rather than calling victims fools or money hungry. Smh.

They threaten to harm or kill kids so it's not easy to leave a domestic violence situation because domestic violence is not just physical it's mental abuse emotional abuse. It's like been stuck in a maze with no light's. Trying to escape...but there is an end to a maze. Even getting out all bruised and damaged it is possible to leave it's just extremely difficult.

A lot of women that get orders just piss off the boyfriend or spouse and either are killed or they still get to them and beat them making them to go back. It’s a sad situation either way.

They got to be super weak I'm from the country and I was getting $300 a week and I left and I also didn't want everybody to know I was divorcing and I just use my $300 and saved it and left while he wasn't there nobody was more scared and Shy as I was because with this lady here shaking her booty and being naked I couldn't do that ....it's amazing the things that you can do and what you can't do. I was a very brief subject to emotional abuse. I got out because of other people in my life describing what their abuse had been like. Drea has scars she may never tell anyone about. The fact she's told any of her story is a small miracle. You can't say "Why don't you just leave?" because like Drea says, you don't know what it's really like. Congrats to Drea for making it out, and I can't wait to see what's next.
This is the reason why I have always marveled, not in a good way, at people who say this celebrity or that celebrity is my role model. I always teach these young people that if you can't shake their hand once in a while, or have your eyes meet theirs across the table, get a pat in the back for no reason, pick up the phone and call them...they ain't your role model. 15 years ago I went through such similar things with a narcissist who almost took me with him. He made his choice. And it put me through the worst trauma. I work each day still, to heal from the fear I lived in. I’m a survivor and God Saved me! He Never left my side. PTSD is So Difficult to manage through. And Yes! This Strong Woman Is a Survivor! At 17 I experienced my first emotionally abusive relationship. He would call me fat or a pig. He was also very demanding. Manipulated. He wasn’t a good guy. He even “tried” to kill himself because I no longer wanted to be in relationship with him, this man traumatized me. At 20 I was raped by another ex boyfriend in a hotel. I remember crying to him asking why he did that? That creep just hugged me and told me he would never do that again. Covid hit and he never spoke to me again. R Kelly is a definition of a monster and narcissist. I hope he’s in prison rotting.

98% of women have dealt with men like R. Kelly. Too many back women sit down in the mess instead of getting up and moving on, it’s called low self-esteem.
I used to work with women and men of domestic violence. Most still look over their shoulder, I admire her for taking the steps to move forward to start a life without the violence.

alicecapone I have found most women are afraid because they don’t know how they will make it financially and protection orders don’t guarantee the spouse or boyfriend will leave them alone. A lot of women that get orders just piss off the boyfriend or spouse and either are killed or they still get to them and beat them making them to go back. It’s a sad situation either way.

I was a very brief subject to emotional abuse. I got out because of other people in my life describing what their abuse had been like. Drea has scars she may never tell anyone about. The fact she's told any of her story is a small miracle. You can't say "Why don't you just leave?" because like Drea says, you don't know what it's really like. Congrats to Drea for making it out, and I can't wait to see what's next.

This is the reason why I have always marveled, not in a good way, at people who say this celebrity or that celebrity is my role model. I always teach these young people that if you can't shake their hand once in a while, or have your eyes meet theirs across the table, get a pat in the back for no reason, pick up the phone and call them...they ain't your role model. He was also monitored then arrested. So it was pretty impossible at that point for him to retaliate and hurt her for coming forward. That kid was a teenager who doesn't do TV interviews. He spoke like an awkward teenager who was asked a question on the spot about an uncomfortable subject. My brother and I also don't have a relationship with our father. 15 years ago I went through such similar things with a narcissist who almost took me with him. He made his choice. And it put me through the worst trauma. I work each day still, to heal from the fear I lived in. I’m a survivor and God Saved me! He Never left my side. PTSD is So Difficult to manage through. And Yes! This Strong Woman Is a Survivor! At 17 I experienced my first emotionally abusive relationship. He would call me fat or a pig. He was also very demanding. Manipulated. He wasn’t a good guy. He even “tried” to kill himself because I no longer wanted to be in relationship with him, this man traumatized me.
At 20 I was raped by another ex boyfriend in a hotel. I remember crying to him asking why he did that? That creep just hugged me and told me he would never do that again. Covid hit and he never spoke to me again.
