So for skeletons speaking in the font they are named after (comic sans and papyrus) would somebody being named after 2 fonts be equivalent to speaking multiple languages? Like would gaster say "I speak aster and wingdings" if so what does it sound like to other monsters for a skeleton to speak in another font? Is it just an accent on English words? If so does that imply each font to be its own language that exclusively skeletons can learn and that they naturally speak so when they speak English (or whatever language the game Is set to) they speak in an acent? Or am I just looking into this to deep
One clever little detail I always liked about this song is that in Sans' verse, starting at the line "I bet you think you've never met a skeleton?", the background music shifts to the melody of MEGALOVANIA, which is the track that plays during the battle with Sans. Also, Sans' usual font is COMIC Sans - he only speaks in Sans Serif when he's being extra serious. (The former also likely contributes to the "funny type-face" joke - because it's "comic" Sans!) Also also, Papyrus' "How DID you correctly guess this path?!" is a reference to one of the puzzles he created in Snowdin, where you have to carry an orb through an invisible maze. If you touch any of the walls, the orb will zap you. However, in order to give the player the orb, Papyrus has to walk through the maze... leaving a path of footprints in the snow for you to follow. Also also also, W. D. Gaster's final line "But when it comes to spitting fire, I've the matter in hands!" refers to the fact that many of the characters in the Wingdings font (which, as other commenters have noted, is the font Gaster speaks in) are hands in various poses. (Also, Gaster is sometimes referred to as "The man who speaks in hands".) Always a pleasure seeing you enjoy these!
the forefront character in the "ghost part" is napstablook, a mini-boss in the ruins, and Mettaton's cousin the other characters in that part are known as whimsun, a basic enemy, that is also within the ruins
the reason papyrus sounds like that is because of the tone of the beeps that happen when their text pops up on screen. same for why sans a has a deeper voice
@@Insaneian I mean, it's a mix of the sound of his "voice" in game and also just his personality/dialogue, I think. His signature laugh _in-game_ is literally "Nyeh heh heh heh!"
The W.D. Guy, his full name is W.D. Gaster. he has two fonts in his name. W.D. stands for WingDing and The other one is Aster. he is a very mysterious character, Plus his character is part of this thing called the fun value, it’s basically just a randomizer for small events that happens in the game and he’s one of those events and he is really really really hard to get.
Okay: I just thought that I'd like to see Ian's reaction to this song, I simply assumed that I'd find it on this channel. Then I realized when it got released. Stupendous timing!
No wonder you do not recognise Gaster. Or at least what we presume him to look like. There is a 1/1000 chance that you have the chance to encounter this character. 1/100 that your "Fun value" is exactly 66 to spawn an extra hallway and then a 1/10 chance that a door to him appears in this hallway. You can only enter this hallway once, so if you walk past: tough luck. You just blew your 1/1000 chance to meet him.
17:37 This was a pun on "fun value", a number randomly chosen when you boot up the game, and depending on which number it lands on, triggers certain Easter eggs
"now i've ran out of bars" is in reference to the fact that on 2 separate occasions in the game papyrus sets up gates with the bars spaced too far apart to stop you
funfact papyrus canonically makes more puns than sans edit : fun number is a pun on FUN number which is a universal code since you need a specific one to find him
W.D. Gaster is sort of a looming presence in undertale,he is only referenced in the "secret lab" and if you are very lucky in your world runs you can find monochrome characters that explain more about his existence and if your incredibly lucky you will find a door(normally closed),opening it you find a figure(assumed to be W.D. Gaster) in a square room, approaching it will cause it to fade out of the room(It goes much deeper than just what I summarised but I tried to make it as clear cut, little is known about Gaster other that he might be related to the skeleton brothers through his name also being a font)
Came back to mention that I honestly hadn't realized that Papyrus was reffing "Lose Yourself" until you mentioned it. Thank you, that's really cool to know.
Sans' font is actually comic sans, because of his comedic nature. That said, he does use sans serif in the church when he's judging you. This lead me to my own little fan theory that Sans is sort of an angel. Like, not literally but thematically. Serif is akin to seraphim, the highest rank of angel in Catholicism, and he only uses this font in the church. Also he promises toriel to watch over you throughout the game, like a guardian angel, and he only fights you if he judges you as irredeemably evil I have no idea if any of this is what Toby Fox intended, but I like the idea of it
Sans makes the Serif pun at the beginning, but then admits it was a joke, and then he tries to keep making jokes all the time. Also his general theme is he tries to look laid back, but as the result, nobody takes him seriously. So he's not just a Sans Serif. He's Comic Sans.
Since I didn't see anything about these in the comments I thought I'd add these: there was a lamp that Sans asks you to hide behind from Papyrus that was exactly your shape in the early part of the game, and the Papyrus Spaghetti line isn't about M&M but rather the fact Papyrus in the game has a love of spaghetti. The frisk the chef bit is presumably due to the main character being named frisk(not as sure about that one, but it seems more likely than that just being there coincidentally).
Fun fact about the third skeleton, his name is two fonts: W.D Gaster = Wing DinG+aster Gaster has a 1/1000 chance of being seen at all in the game, and like a 3% chance of being mentioned at all in the game.
W. D. Gastor is one of the few things in tbis video that actually is a font his is Wing Dings as referenced by the warning "beware the man who speaks in hands" kinda a deep dive though because any given run has a less than 10% chance for even a passing reference to him and a 1/1000 chance of actually seeing him
So you mentioned the multiverse of madness, just watched that the other day. And the pizza stand guy, I was thinking he looked and acted familiar. Then I placed it, it was ash, which made me remember the fact that ash is a marvel property and honestly that was neat.
That's Bruce Campbell, and the guy who directed Multiverse of Madness (Sam Raimi) directed the Evil Dead/Army of Darkness movies and puts him in everything he does. And Ash isn't TECHNICALLY a Marvel property. Ash shows up in tye Marvel Zombies comic, but that was via a crossover deal with Dynamite, who holds the current comic rights. Plus...he wasn't playing Ash in the movie. That was "Pizza Poppa" 😅
@Insaneian and pizza poppa always gets paid. Yea the mannerisms got me thinking (just happened to be rewatching the tv series earlier that same day) and I remembered that comic series but forgot that was a cross over bit. Though frankly I think it'd be interesting to see a movie or short involving dead pool and ash characters.
@@Insaneian also the third guy isn't a boss, but in fact a secret that has a 1/100 chance of being somewhere every individual run, with no dialogue at all lol

On your question on the voice acting side of the undertale community, technically EVERY voice is Canon, 'cause like you said the characters don't actually have voices, it's just beeps and boops
The whole Papyrus Skeletor thing is based entirely on the NYEH HEH HEH laugh he does, and I think Jacksepticeye may have been the first to do it? Don't quote me on that
The amount of references/word play I missed at the beginning that I only found out about because you pointed it out has already erateted me to my core I’m only at 8:22 lol Ok and now I am definitely eratated to my core how do you not know that toreil and asgore are characters and that Snowdin is the town sans and papyrus live in sorry if I sound rude
Well, like I said, I only played the game a little...and it was years ago. So, some things I forgot (or never knew because I never got to them in my playthrough).
the reason papryus sounds like that is bc its the voice jacksepticeye gave him and the voices u hear ffor a lot of characters voices u hear people gravitated towards jacks voices
You didn't prepare yourself not just for the regular dose of puns from Stupendium, but for those, plus the inherent doses of puns regarding anything that involves Sans. (Also, I thing you reacted to the original version, not the remastered one, with the Youtooz figurine.)
Comic sans is the full name if the font serif refers to if the font has lines going out on the top or bottom while san serif means without them I have no idea if that describes it properly but how the he’ll do you define serif
time to answer some stuff i can, Torial is a joke on tutorial, and asgore is just a name with no hidden meaning. snowdin is a town in the game that is full of snow, you could even say its snowed in. lastly W.D Gaster is a secret character. one of those things that you dont know from just playing the game, you gotta look into some stuff and find secrets. hes trapped across multiple universes, 4 people called the "gaster followers" have a 1 in 50 chance of appearing based on your game seed, which is 1-50. hes a fun guy.
You need to get back into not just the game but the fandom. W.D. Gaster is what he's called and he asked up only if you play the game a certain way. The fandom calls him the creator of Papyrus and Sans because he really doesn't show up in the game unless you pay close attention or execute the right stuff to do so. He's basically stuck in a void which lots of the fans think he was the original scientist before alphys but feel into the vote and in turn made everyone forget he existed to begin with. I could be wrong since I never had Twitter and never got to find out from the creator of the game but you don't do WD GASTER unless you do a precision thing while playing. He made it so different things happen depending on what you do and how you play. And the game came out in 2022-2013. Officially anyway. Since then people have made many versions of their own to where there are over 300+ versions that aren't canon to the game. I may have gotten into three fandom late but I made sure not to be confused. Not saying you are I'm sorry I got caught up in my writing I forgot it was a post. And that I was actually taking to someone. I just think it would be beneficial for you to go back and replay it out watch several people play it in different ways. The storyline does change s bit based on what you do m or look up animations that have GASTER in them. He only does up for a second if you play the right way as far as I know but he became a fan favorite.
I didn't like the game when I played it, and I didn't enjoy the playthrough I watched, so I probably won't ever play it again, but thanks for the info anyway!
W.D. gaster (the third skeleton singing) is a DEEP CUT from undertale's lore. essentially, he was the royal scientist before alphys (the yellow dinosaur) and he "fell into his creation" and was scattered. in short, he's a canon retcon. a character who should've existed but didn't and now can only be found in rare events triggered by your run's randomly selected FUN number ("stick around, this'll be a _fun number")_ and by datamining the game's files. other things associated with gaster include: "dark, darker, yet darker" garbage noise (read: dialup sounds) the number 6 but really, i shouldn't say too much. it's rude to talk about someone who's listening.
oh no the like button .. i broke it now it does not say 666 anymore ... welp anyways this was a nice reaction and I enjoyed your reaction to this great rap music video and there is now a REMASTER of this beautiful rap!
I'm a week late, don't care, because it's the video where the best reactor reacts to the best song from the best artist about the best game. I was waiting for this since Ad Infinitum. It's gonna be a long comment. Voices for the characters I would call a headcanon. Like you said, there's no voice acting in the game but there are vocal snippets that repeatedly play when text shows up (Sans' voice is that of a Patrick the Star, for example). And so many letsplayers extrapolated the voices from these snippet and personallities of the characters, that's why they all sound similar to one another. The strongest influence for Papyrus's voice was from Jacksepticeye's playthrough which was extremely popular (60 million view on the first episode). He did the remarkable Papyrus voice which stuck with many people. Sans uses the font Comic Sans most of the time (obviously), but he also occasionally talks in Sans Serif as well, when he gets serious. While frisking the chef IS unnessessary, it a reference to the protagonist of the game, a kid named Frisk. The ghost is Napstablook - a spooky sad DJ you meet in the Ruins who lives in Waterfall. The talk about font reminded about the animation on youtube called "Sans Fight Animation", which was literally about Comic Sans font fighting other fonts. Great clickbait, awesome video. Heck, even I didn't know who Gaster is when I heard the song for the first time years ago. Undertale has randomised events to keep the playthroughs slightly different from one another, and the chance of encountering Gaster is 1 in 1000. And even the guy you meet (the sprite the whole fandom accepted to be Gaster and that's how we know his appearance, this guy doen't show up anywhere else in the game) is technically not confirmed to be Gaster. It's all speculation based on some obsure facts. The full name is W. D. Gaster, which comes from the font Wing Dings and a short piece of music called "Gaster's Theme". I won't explain all the bars you missed, we'd be here all day. For a guy, who don't knows a lot about Undertale you caught many references, good job! Also, I left the big explainer comment below the original song and got a heart from Stupendium! The song was 5 years old at that point. They are great.
the voices aren't canon they are just very popular fanon, sans has a newyorker/brooklen accent and paps sounds like skeletor, its just what's popular and people like those voices. like toriel sounds very motherly because we call her goat mom asgore sound very deep or depressed because of the weight of both his kingdom and decision bearing down on him undynes very upbeat and caring due to her brash decisions alphas is very nerdy and stutters in her font flowey is manic or monsterious due to his decades of murderous tendencys and living without a soul mettton is very proud and has a boisterous voice due to him being a performer/actor ETC you get the idea the voices just fit with what we know about them same with W D Gasters voice, he sounds very mysterious/scitenty due to not much being know about him other then he existed and was the scientist before alphas.
@17:47 i figured you wouldn't, his name is wd gaster or wing dings gaster, hes a charicter who shows up in one in every 1000 [ or 0.1% chance] runs due to the FUN value being 66 which getting that fun value it self is 1 in 100 runs.
we don't know much about him other then he's realted to sans through the basters sans uses being called GASTER blaster, and some card that link him to paps and sans. deltarune also paints him as a evil "villain" who messed with spamton g spamton and jevil the secret bosses of chapter one and two.
also i have a head canon that the player[us] and gaster are locked in an eternal struggle for the fate of all au's. based on the lore plaques in undertale about the angel that fell from heaven [us] and deltarune making gaster be a multiverse villain like thanos, as well as spamton talking about reaching heaven [our world]
It is also implied by the W.D. and the fact that Gaster kind of looks skeletal at points despite being a ghost, he is of some relation to Sans and Papyrus.
Apparently, as many folks have told me in the comments here, he is named after BOTH Comic Sans (since he himself is a stand-up comic) and San Serif. My bad.

Gaster's final line "But when it comes to spitting fire, I've the matter in hands!" refers to the fact that many of the characters in the Wingdings font (which, as other commenters have noted, is the font Gaster speaks in) are hands in various poses. (Also, Gaster is sometimes referred to as "The man who speaks in hands".)
Always a pleasure seeing you enjoy these!
15:32 the ghost in the middle is called nabstablook I think-
the ghosts on the sides are just regular enemies though
the forefront character in the "ghost part" is napstablook, a mini-boss in the ruins, and Mettaton's cousin
the other characters in that part are known as whimsun, a basic enemy, that is also within the ruins
Toriel isn't a font. Her name just puns the fact that she's a tutorial character.
4:30
Pretty sure someone a long time ago made his voice like that, and then enough people were inspired by it until it became cannon
Im pretty sure it was mark
Generally they make Papyrus sound like Skeletor because while he's not voiced in-game, he does say "Nyaaaa" regularly.
Kind of ironic that Ian finally got this video reacted to... just two months before it was remastered.
the reason papyrus sounds like that is because of the tone of the beeps that happen when their text pops up on screen. same for why sans a has a deeper voice
I mean, high and low beeps don't really explain why Papyrus sounds like Skeletor...
@@Insaneian I mean, it's a mix of the sound of his "voice" in game and also just his personality/dialogue, I think. His signature laugh _in-game_ is literally "Nyeh heh heh heh!"
@@Spectralyzed that's fair
Feel the need to clarify: we don't know for CERTAIN that W.D. stands for Wingding, but it's been accepted widely as a headcanon.
Okay: I just thought that I'd like to see Ian's reaction to this song, I simply assumed that I'd find it on this channel.
Then I realized when it got released.
Stupendous timing!
Something worth noting is that each of the characters' theme is played in their parts. Megalovania, bonetrousle, and dark darker yet darker
17:37
This was a pun on "fun value", a number randomly chosen when you boot up the game, and depending on which number it lands on, triggers certain Easter eggs
I actually think the gage was updated to remove FUN values since people could just change them after hearing about them
"now i've ran out of bars" is in reference to the fact that on 2 separate occasions in the game papyrus sets up gates with the bars spaced too far apart to stop you
The things behind W.D Gaster are Wingdings like this 🕈︎📬︎👎︎ ☝︎♋︎⬧︎⧫︎♏︎❒︎ just says his name
And yes he is a skeleton like sans and papyrus
just in case anyones wondering, patella is the knee-cap !!
The Last character is more less a theory character/easter egg character by the name of W.D Gaster.
i love him lolol
funfact papyrus canonically makes more puns than sans
edit : fun number is a pun on FUN number which is a universal code since you need a specific one to find him
The Underground is the name of the whole of Undertale. That world you fall into is called the Underground
Can’t wait for you to react to the Unlikely Chyphers
First one will likely be next week!
Also he promises toriel to watch over you throughout the game, like a guardian angel, and he only fights you if he judges you as irredeemably evil
I have no idea if any of this is what Toby Fox intended, but I like the idea of it
The neutral run has left the chat
4:19 you have to thank jacksepticeye for giving him that voice in his play through
19:39 you know its good when he makes this noise
Oh boy you are going to love Stupendium's new cypher
When you paused for the first pun I just grinned at how much pausing you were going to do
Fun fact about the third skeleton, his name is two fonts:
W.D Gaster = Wing DinG+aster
Gaster has a 1/1000 chance of being seen at all in the game, and like a 3% chance of being mentioned at all in the game.
Snowdin the town Papyrus and Sans live in. Named after the fact it is covered head to toe in snow, so all the houses are snowed in.
Yay I have not seen alot of insane ian in a while!
(probably just didnt pop on my reccomended much)
I like your content!
Thank you! I post new videos every Friday!
I found you once Ian and since ive loved watching your videos
W. D. Gastor is one of the few things in tbis video that actually is a font his is Wing Dings as referenced by the warning "beware the man who speaks in hands" kinda a deep dive though because any given run has a less than 10% chance for even a passing reference to him and a 1/1000 chance of actually seeing him
The patella is the formal, dressed up, fancy name for the kneecap.
Yes, Wellingtons are a style of tall rubber boot. Taller than galoshes IIRC.
Yeah the spaghetti thing is an Eminem rap reference with the style of Papyrus's beat but also just a reference to Paps love of spaghetti/cooking.
Undertale has 3 routes
Pacifist, neutral and genocide
Sans can only ever be thought on genocide
The lamp is just a thing you hide behind in the first meeting with Sans and Papyrus
Right! I totally forgot about that!
It really HAS been a while since I played!
@@Insaneian also the third guy isn't a boss, but in fact a secret that has a 1/100 chance of being somewhere every individual run, with no dialogue at all lol
Basically, every sans' lines is a pun. I hate and love that.
If you are not the biggest fan of puns, then you might to avoid Stupendium's Cuphead song called Milk Milk Lemonade.
That song is about half game references and the other half drink puns. He also made a second video where he shows where all the damn puns are.
I love puns, and I already reacted to that one. Twice, technically.
16:14 these are two characters from the game asgore and toriel
On your question on the voice acting side of the undertale community, technically EVERY voice is Canon, 'cause like you said the characters don't actually have voices, it's just beeps and boops
Didn't know he hasn't reacted to this
The whole Papyrus Skeletor thing is based entirely on the NYEH HEH HEH laugh he does, and I think Jacksepticeye may have been the first to do it? Don't quote me on that
3:05, The review begins!
You should check out Stupes' song "Open the Sky"! While not a comedy song per se it's still full of double meanings, both for the game and for life
I already did! Since it's not a comedy song, my reaction is exclusively on my Patreon!
The amount of references/word play I missed at the beginning that I only found out about because you pointed it out has already erateted me to my core I’m only at 8:22 lol
Ok and now I am definitely eratated to my core how do you not know that toreil and asgore are characters and that Snowdin is the town sans and papyrus live in sorry if I sound rude
Well, like I said, I only played the game a little...and it was years ago. So, some things I forgot (or never knew because I never got to them in my playthrough).
I know it just baffles me
And sorry sometimes I forget other people don’t have perfect memory or that somthing is not common nolige
i think people make papyrus sound like skeletor because of the "neh"
the reason papryus sounds like that is bc its the voice jacksepticeye gave him and the voices u hear ffor a lot of characters voices u hear people gravitated towards jacks voices
You didn't prepare yourself not just for the regular dose of puns from Stupendium, but for those, plus the inherent doses of puns regarding anything that involves Sans.
(Also, I thing you reacted to the original version, not the remastered one, with the Youtooz figurine.)
Yes, because when this reaction came out, the remaster wasn't released yet.
You seem like your favorite dinosaur is a stegosaurus
8:27 i just got called out for skipping the intro i did not expect that
Gasters verse is a hodge podge of science words
Edit: plus a dick joke (maybe) in papyrus's verse
Comic sans is the full name if the font
serif refers to if the font has lines going out on the top or bottom while san serif means without them
I have no idea if that describes it properly but how the he’ll do you define serif
ooo, this is a good one
time to answer some stuff i can, Torial is a joke on tutorial, and asgore is just a name with no hidden meaning. snowdin is a town in the game that is full of snow, you could even say its snowed in. lastly W.D Gaster is a secret character. one of those things that you dont know from just playing the game, you gotta look into some stuff and find secrets. hes trapped across multiple universes, 4 people called the "gaster followers" have a 1 in 50 chance of appearing based on your game seed, which is 1-50. hes a fun guy.
The patella is the kneecap.
Finally
W.D. gaster (the third skeleton singing) is a DEEP CUT from undertale's lore.
essentially, he was the royal scientist before alphys (the yellow dinosaur) and he "fell into his creation" and was scattered.
in short, he's a canon retcon. a character who should've existed but didn't and now can only be found in rare events triggered by your run's randomly selected FUN number ("stick around, this'll be a _fun number")_ and by datamining the game's files.
other things associated with gaster include:
"dark, darker, yet darker"
garbage noise (read: dialup sounds)
the number 6
but really, i shouldn't say too much. it's rude to talk about someone who's listening.
Toriel is a play on tge word Tutorial!
Sans is actually two sans fonts Comic and Serif!
i think Jacksepticeye started the scellator voice since he was one of the 1st few to start a lets play on Undertale
oh no the like button .. i broke it now it does not say 666 anymore ... welp anyways this was a nice reaction and I enjoyed your reaction to this great rap music video and there is now a REMASTER of this beautiful rap!
I didn't prepare for thw puns either
I just work up today
Oh f*ck i misspelled woke up
8:25 But MY ADHD is WHY I skipped the beginning 🥲
Papayas's voice is from jacksepticeye I belive he was the first one to do it and he is popular so others just began to do it too

Man, you got to check out Muppet Rap Cypher by Stupendium!
It'll likely be up next week!
Good Show
the voices aren't canon they are just very popular fanon, sans has a newyorker/brooklen accent and paps sounds like skeletor, its just what's popular and people like those voices.
like toriel sounds very motherly because we call her goat mom
asgore sound very deep or depressed because of the weight of both his kingdom and decision bearing down on him
undynes very upbeat and caring due to her brash decisions
alphas is very nerdy and stutters in her font
flowey is manic or monsterious due to his decades of murderous tendencys and living without a soul
mettton is very proud and has a boisterous voice due to him being a performer/actor
ETC
you get the idea
the voices just fit with what we know about them same with W D Gasters voice, he sounds very mysterious/scitenty due to not much being know about him other then he existed and was the scientist before alphas.
@7:45 i can see the papyrus showing in your reactions
frisk "the chef" frisk is the name of the character you use in undertale, your name overwrites chara.
