I have this EP when it came out. Cover torn and long gone. I saw them in San Jose in 67. They were the opening act for a mid morning to an all afternoon rock concert. Quicksilver Messenger Service and Big Brother and the Holding Company also played.

Didn't manage to get a copy of the legendary EP that this comes from until the early 80s, so I was more familiar with the version on the 1968 debut album. Much as I enjoy this, I still prefer that second version. The band, though from Ohio, shared affinities with other Berkeley-based outfits like Country Joe and the Fish and Serpent Power. Wind Chimes certainly sounds like it wouldn't have been out of place on Electric Music For The Mind And Body!
It's kinda crazy that this wss the band that didn't come from an art school because by all means this is more experimental and weirder if anything. Fucking love Mad River. Only got into them recently and might be one of my favorite bands of all time.
