No one today builds pickup trucks as rugged as they were in the 40's and 50's. Not Chevy, GMC, Dodge or Ford. I had a 1949 Dodge Power Wagon and it was the most rugged, most versatile truck I ever owned.
Actually not. The systems ran in mixed traffic like the buses that replaced them, so got stuck in the same traffic. They were problematic and failing. Buses were also cheaper to run, faster to accelerate and brake, and more maneuverable.
Some were also GMCs, which were badge engineered Chevrolets, and Ford and Chrysler were not alone, either, with DIVCO and Nash and Studebaker and Hudson also having a presence as well as Autocar and Peterbilt and Kenworth and so many others. So 1 in 3 is actually really quite good in that environment.
