The writing in this was juvenile. My favorite is when Anthony Mackey yells "cover me" with a gun that they know does absolutely nothing to the creatures. What's the point?
I actually really enjoyed this one. Went into it expecting nothing, but I thought it was pretty decent. I got a Horizon Zero Dawn vibe from the monsters.
You can see the CGI was on a very tight budget. But even so, the monsters do look pretty good. The story though, it just commands an eye roll. Like dude, really now. We've seen these type of scripts before and can tell the end from the beginning.
Oof, Morena Baccarin barely features on the poster or promo material. I'm surprised this even got a theatrical release: it looks like another Anthony Mackie 5-point-something streaming movie, like Outside the Wire. That might have been good enough in an era where people habitually went to the theatre and then watched whatever was on, but I don't see The Modern Audience going out specifically to spend money on this.
It sounds awful. Could Hollywood try to do something hopeful, please? What about humanity building star ships and going to the stars... something optimistic and and hopeful? < sigh.>
@@camillecunningham7348 The story should not be based in any of the usual franchises, but be a new creation. Cover the discovery of new energy sources and new insights in physics, the reasons why mankind needs to go to the stars, the training of the first true star men and women and ultimately the first ship, leaving the solar system. Ever watch "Destination: moon" - 1951 movie about the first ship to reach the moon. Something that fuels our dreams and aspirations. The problem, I believe, is that Hollywood is a dying industry and knows it. Of course, they are pessimistic and dwell on endings and various disasters... but that isn't all humanity is. Mankind is best when it is exploring.
Yeah, it's gotten super stale as a genre..I get it - we're all doomed as a species, but I don't wanna be constantly reminded of the fact in everything I watch..!
I just want a faithful adaptation of mass effect or halo. Both of those franchises would do great on the big screen if someone follows the source material.
Well, the trailer seemed to tell us this movie is worse than Marvel Rip-Off Edit: Uuuuh, I'm not sure Anthony Mackie has the star powers you mentioned here. Sure he was Falcon, but that was his only known role...🙄...
Saw Heretic instead. It was a pretty solid thriller, not a horror movie. Elevation looks interesting, however. Wanna see it, but not sure if I wanna pay, or wait until it shows up on a platform.
I feel with Anthony Mackie when he has the lead act he still feel like a support act. I think the plot had potential but the execution was just ok so the result was predictable and the aliens were never explained more than small bits of information. Also nothing or very little about why and how the aliens came or anything about the incident that started everything. I would have wanted more backstory. The movie is entertaining so if you want an action scifi movie or just want an easy movie to watch then this one ticks the box. Would not pay a movie ticket to watch it though but as a streaming service movie it's perfect.
Thank you for this review. I’ll be skipping it in theatres. Also wanted to just say that A Quiet Place: Day One was awful imo. It had quite a few plot holes, it did absolutely nothing to progress the story, world building, or information about the creatures. I would’ve liked to have seen perspectives in different countries, or how the military responded, or NASA. Literally anything other than a lady in a city getting pizza.
1. About 140 million people, or 2% of the world's population, permanently live at or above 8,000 feet in elevation. -NIHS 2. Not all elevations are identical in terms of air pressure, temperature, environmental conditions, etc. So what's the deciding factor? 3. At any given moment, the average person is within 5 miles of an 8000ft topological rise. 4. Nukes will kill almost anything, even Godzilla if you use enough of them.
The fact that its named elevation but never explain why the "creatures" cant go above 8K elevation really bothers me and my OCD. Then when you find out what they are or might be you're going to ask yourself wtf WHY CANT THEY GO ABOVE 8000' again?
I think the difference between JP CGI and others is render time including lighting was far more invested into! Nowadays there's more cheaper post effects in, that look absolute shite.
No one mentions the run time. Tight 90 minutes with no time wasted. It was an ok movie but I was having fun the entire time. Really made me realize how much bloat is in modern 2+ hour films and how much that bloat detracts from the experience.
15 years from now, the movies today that feel " derivative of better movies" will be atripped of that context, and may become cult classics because they scratch the same itch as the better movies. Like all the Alien or Jaws rip-offs that have nostalgic charm.
I found it totally soulless. You don't get any investment in the characters. Feels like one episode of a terrible franchise. Mackie is not a leading man IMO.
a 5 rating is a blockbuster rating for todays total dogshit standards. lets face it they dont make fuck all good movies like the old days, and woke culture, cutting corners, and laziness has a lot to do with it.
Stop sh*tting on the CGI. Do you have any idea the conditions VFX artists have to work under? VFX artists don't make huge salaries and get ZERO residuals, unlike the actors. They deal with shoe-string budgets, under staffed crews, terrible directors and ego-maniacs meddling with each shot, useless notes and revisions from the studio. It's hell. Quality takes time. And that is something no Hollywood film allows these days.
I refuse to watch and support anymore Anthony Mackey movies. Hes the Sanit Floyd Hollywood virtue signal go to 🤷🏿♂️👍🏿 POC actor. Every of his movied since phase 1 post 2019 has been shit and on the nose woke. My breaking point was when he was shoehorned into Altered Carbon to replace Joel Kinnamen unnecessarily.
The best part of this movie was that it was only 90 minutes.
It's a good thing the aliens don't use the metric system. Otherwise, their max elevation would be an awkward 2,438.4 meters.
😂
Bravo
@@Hedgehobbit wow dude you just insulted the entire world with that
Not really - only those on the inferior imperial stuff 😂
@@scroopynooperz9051 😂😂
So they took a high concept then subjected it to cliches. Got it.
Is this a pun?

Sounds like After Earth

All that CGI and they still can't give Mackie a chin
the cgi was so bad.. just the smoke and shrapnel laone was embarassing to look at..
"I don't remember any of the characters' names." Already a red flag 🚩
I remember Will Smith
You've got to step up, Anthony
Hes a terrible actor. I do t know why he's got the push from Hollywood. Every single thing he's been a lead in has been trash.
@@dash4800 yep ,overrated as hell crazy given how many good actors there are out there, but they get no work and yet this guy is all over the place.
Do better
He will with Captain America. It's a slam dunk smash hit. Okay I'm calling it $1.2 Billion box office.
I liked it because it's fast paced and it gets straight to the point and the movie is about 90 mins.
I like Anthony Mackie and the 2 women not being delicate flowers sounds good too. Thanks Chris for the summation.
Kevin Bacon.. Susan Sarandon...
MOUNTAIN HIGH!
I actually really enjoyed this one. Went into it expecting nothing, but I thought it was pretty decent.
I got a Horizon Zero Dawn vibe from the monsters.
THIS is a perfect ill wait to stream it.
Because that's where it belongs.
Sounds like A Quiet Place knock-off you would see by Asylum or some other studio for Sy-Fy. Probably might be more memorable if it was.
You can see the CGI was on a very tight budget. But even so, the monsters do look pretty good. The story though, it just commands an eye roll. Like dude, really now. We've seen these type of scripts before and can tell the end from the beginning.
I kinda liked it
It was not a bad watch to be honest.
Never even heard of this.
Say it with me, Chris: Bah-Karen. Morena Bah-KAREN, of Firefly and Homeland fame.
Sounds like a good idea for a videogame.

The Movie was actually not bad :)
Should it be metric?
Sweet, will pick it up on Tubi...
Otherwise, couldn't be bothered.
This movie should go straight to UA-cam.
Odd that it got a US only release.
First time hearing about this movie.

well played Alan and Chris
Has black captain falcon america ever been in his own successful movie?
No. He’s an overrated bore.
No dude he peaked In pain and gain as comedy relief.
@AlanJ1993 naaaaa he was best playing himself as the closeted gay in one black mirror episode

B to B minus. At 90 minutes, it was too short.

If I wanted to watch a movie about people getting high then I'll just watch the Cheech and Chong movies. At least they have some good stoner humor.
Felt like when you play a video game and do a fetch quest not much to it and predictable
Mackie is a junk actor.
His run is about over.
👌🏿💯
This was a sci fi channel movie at best. No character chemistry. Poor acting and the dialog was atrocious.
I really liked apocalyptic movies or zombie movies but they put so many generic mid movies out there that they are just only annoying.
I don't understand why they even made this movie, it was so uninspired.
After seeing him in that awful political commercial, I never want to see him or any of them in a movie again.
