I really love eaten alive in aristocrats decks, 1 black mana and sacrifice a creature EXILE a creature or planes walker. Guess what I'm in aristocrats I wanted to sacrifice a creature anyway. And though not ideal I could also just pay 5 mana if I didn't have a creature to sacrifice so it isn't a dead card. It's a common that costs like 10 cents.
Didn't even consider it for the two monoblack decks I've built so far but I've debated whether it would make sense in K'rrik (not CEDH). Still much better options but 1 mana and 4 life maybe makes it more palatable. :P
I don’t use Murder anyway, but either way there are a lot of even better alternatives for my Kuon deck specifically here. Some of them I just forgot about and some I can’t believe I didn’t consider them before.
@@Npocommander sure. For a lot of things. but it can't hit creature lands, can't prevent you from taking combat damage, and potentially hits you with a significant amount of life loss. The flexibility of also being able to hit enchantments is nice... But being a sorcery REALLY hurts it.
Very good suggestions, but i just think that the simplicity of murder is the draw to add it. Of course there are better options but i dont think murder is useless
Lethal scheme has put me from a losing position into a winning position every time i cast it. Its basically 0 mana draw 4 kill a creature in graveyard decks. I play it in sidisi and wilhelt
Lethal Scheme is my favorite removal spell in commander. It rarely costs mana and it does so much; graveyard synergies, discard synergies, +1/+1 synergies, draw synergies, combat trick. It's so good.
Baleful Mastery! You can pay the student cost and give someone a card. Even better, it doesn't have to be the person who's permanent you exiled. Politics!

now it may not fit in a black deck but if I had to name a card that's better than murder off the top of my head, I'd pick "Krenko, Mob Boss."

Hard disagree on Heartless Act. So many cards use counters now. I'd rather pay the extra mana than have a dead card in my hand.
Some other options are Go for the Throat, or Doom Blade. Both two mana instants with some restrictions.

the problem is that most decks playing murder will also play the rest. singleton needs the great cards AND the LESS strictly betters sometimes.

Heartless Act works great with removing Indestructible Counters. (Mondrak for example)

Kinda yeah. Paper standard is starting to return and it MIGHT see Pioneer play but I'm not 100% sure

Heartless act is not a better alternative. Sure it's 1 less mana but I played H.A. and i definitely got screwed by cards having counters 6/10 times
Not to mention targets you would want to destroy like Kalonian Hydra aren't affected by Heartless act.
