This video is dedicated to all who venture out camera-in-hand week in and week out. Incredible commitment!

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to a landscape photography trip to Holme Fell in the Lake District National Park. The guys who invited me meet up on a monthly basis.
Whilst these guys meet up once a month they all venture up and down dale pretty much every week. I know them all and they're all excellent photographers.
It wasn't until our meet-up did I have a sudden realisation of their dedication to the art of photography. Because of that, I decided to concentrate my efforts on them. I didn't plan it. I just hope I haven't embarrassed any of them with my ramblings.
One thing's for certain, I had one of my best photography trips ever. Just being in the same place and feeling their energy, drive and enthusiasm were truly awe-inspiring.
Already looking forward to the next one.

Mate! What a great day that was and a great pleasure to help show you around. Thanks so much for all your kind words about "amateur" landscape photographers, we act strongly on inspiration but the love and enthusiasm for the landscape and the art is all our own!
Noooo, it's me that has to say thanks to you. A top day m8. Already looking forward to the next one 👍👍
You don’t get many days like that! Or sausage butties! Or someone filming you when you don’t know! Bloody brilliant, for a first I’m lost for words. Gary! I NEED A WEE. Thanks so much my good friend, for telling it like it is, to all amateur landscape photographers. Sneaky bugger 🤣😍👍
I roared with laughter when you said “I need a wee” Mali 😂😂
@@angelaoneill51 hehe 😜 Gary started that, talking about when he gets excited 😂 I didn’t know he’d recorded that, made me laugh out loud!
A truly brilliant day. Nothing beats being around other like-minded people. Already looking forward to my next invite 😁😁
Thanks Gary for the respect that you show us, the ameteurs who do not do it for the money. It makes all of what I do for photography - worthwhile...❤❤
It's cheaper to be out there enjoying your self than being at home with your central heating on.Great vid Gary.
So true Clive 👍👍
Absolutely brilliant Gary,
I watch their video's and as you say their enthusiasm and banter is brilliant. You captured some amazing image's while you were there and i will check out their image's.
Look forward to seeing your next video.
Defo one of your best videos, great recognition of those dedicated photographers who do it in their spare time rather than doing it as living.
what an amazing video with amazing people
Yet another great video Gary👌 Fantastic conditions & good company makes for a memorable day👍
I am probably as much an amateur as anyone can be. I only found you Gary within the last 2-3 weeks. I started following many other photographers as well but I enjoy your commentary the most. Even your descriptions are bang on for me. I had no idea what my life was going to bring when I had to stop working due to medical reasons. Photography seemed to be within reach. I was always a point and shoot, manual photographer. Get that quick shot and pack it away for something to look at later on. Sometimes, maybe most times, my pictures were just a data bank of nothing but possible memories for a future date. Since I had to quit working, I wondered what I would do. I've always liked editing. Making little short clips and playing around in different editing software. When I came to youtube, I would find many subjects and could never find my niche. I started looking more into photography and doing something different than point and shoot. I bought a Nikon D5100 with a kit lens years ago but never used its features beyond auto mode. Now, after watching a few youtube videos of photography and what you can create, I decided to give it a whirl. I only started looking into it more recently can only dream to become 1/2 of what I have seen photographers come up with. Mind you, years of experience can help in that case for sure but the teaching available online today can make even the worst photographers learn a trick or two. I started binge watching your videos recenlty and love the fine art photography. I think I live in a pretty awesome place here in Canada and hope to get some really decent shots one day from what I am learning online. Thank you for sharing your experiences and your expert descriptions of photography.
Thanks for giving my channel a try and I'm so glad you're enjoying the content. 👍👍
Fantastic video Gary, The location looks stunning & the results are wonderful. Your praise of the amateur photographer is inspirational.i have not seen Mikeys channel before but i am a subscriber of Malis & I think the Images you all capture are wonderful.
Cheers Shaun 👍👍
@@GaryGough You are welcome & thank you for being you & doing what you do with a camera
Oh man, some stunning drone clips there!
Cheers Gavin, kind of you to say xx
Couldn't agree more then what Twa-Dags Photography said. Looking forward to next week.
That is exactly what I do, I have a full time job and landscape photography is a very expensive hobby, particularly if you are vlogging too. But my wife is with me on most of my travels and I really enjoy what I do. Therefore, if my work inspires others or if I can make someone get lost or feel like there with me and interested for a few minutes ....I'm happy!!
What a day that must have been!! In the company of royalty and also Mali 😂👏👏
Top day indeed m8. It'll be the same when I come to Ireland 😁😁
I love this. The way you filmed this to show off their enthusiasm for the landscape and the joy of photography was fun to watch. When it all comes together like this is magical to me.
What a fantastic video and as somebody who is out in nature for wildlife photography for no reason other than I love it. Well done.
Incredible! Thanks for sharing.
🥲 Love the amateur life talk, landscape photographers pro or not just love being outdoors and experiencing nature.
It is so hard to describe the passion photographers feel about their photography. This does a really good job.
Cheers Greg 👍👍
I N S P I R A TI O N A L. Thank you for showing us.
I have been doing landscape photography for 15 years now and are impressed by you youtubers, how you have the motivation to film and put togheter this videos, even if the conditions are perfect. Cheers from Norway
Cheers Daniel 👍👍
Still captured some epic scenes up there Gary. It will be great to see your next visit.
Absolutely awesome!!!! 🙌🙌💥💥
Thank you!! 👍👍
you just have a so comforting and honest narrative skill! love this video!
You had great company and awesome conditions. Great to see it!
Great tribute to fabulous photographers Gary, a real pleasure to watch
Cheers Scotty 👍👍
Brilliantly done Gary! What a fantastic place indeed…Stunning images along with some amazing great enthusiasm and laughs!💙
Thanks Anne 👍👍
👏👏👏Excellent!
A fabulous video and you are so right about my lovely friends, Mikey & Mali. Their enthusiasm and excitement for the landscape is infectious and it is always great to spend time with them. Holme Fell is also truly beautiful and I am looking forward to seeing your video next week Gary.
Thanks Angela 👍👍
Oh, if we could all have locations and days like that. Absolutely wonderful Gary, thank you.
Two of my favourite photographers in one video. Mali's photos and enthusiasm are fabulous . I think Mali and Gary should be a regular double act x
Magic conditions!
Great video as always Gary. I’ve been following Mali for awhile now. He’s a trip !! LOL Plus, I think we have the same tripod ! LOL
Very cool. Cheers Joseph 👍👍
While these photographers might not make a living with their photography (I don't either), they do make a life with it. I do.
Well said. Agree totally 👍👍
Great to see a group getting together to do something we all love.
I go out and sometimes I feel I shouldn’t be doing this as I’m on my own. We all set off early or get back late to capture that image. I can now see the benefits of going as a group.
Once a month sounds like a great idea.
Cheers Chris 👍👍
This is what made me subscribe to your channel. Passion is what I saw that day, passion is what I still see. I also have a full time job. In fact I am commenting from my office in the middle of the night. I will be shooting when I finish here at 7 am (Canadian Maritime) and then I have to head home, get my kid from school, rest a bit and prepare for another night at work... with my camera gear right besides me. There are months of unedited work.... but who cares.... why we do it???? well..... I think you know the answer to that question better than anyone else..... Cheers. Thanks for the fantastic work you do.
Fantastic mate 👍👍
Great video, what a stunning place, the views are amazing. Their dedication is to be honoured ... thank you so much for sharing this Gary 👍
photography has to be passion, then money doesn't matter !!
thanks for the nice video.
greetings from germany
So true! Cheers Burkhard 👍👍
Fantastic content, thank you.
Cheers Chris 👍👍
Can I just say that" they are the real Professional" photographers!!!
Hat off to all of them 👍👍
❤💯
What a magnificent site! Just loved the low cloud/mist and excited to see what you do next week in different conditions. For me this one was a winner.
What a huge coincidence, as I've literally just finished watching Mali's 4 part street photography UA-cam series of his adventures in Spain & Portugal. Anyway, what fantastic conditions you experienced, albeit challenging, so will be interesting to compare against next weeks video.
OMG Gary.... !!! WOW, Fantastic, absolutely Fantastic... beyond words, and another destination entered on my list of places for travel and photography. Thank-You, Thank-You,
You're welcome Toby 👍👍
Nice vlog Gary, Mali's passion flows like a river 😂😂😂👍👍👍
Absolutely 😁😁 👍👍
You're my favorite. Keep it up pal. Greetings from Italy 🇮🇹
Cheers Giuseppe 👍👍
What makes a landscape photographer? It ain’t money. Yup, passion.
Really enjoy your stuff, Gary.
PS only a million compositions? You haven’t been to Alberta yet, have you Mr Gough?
I think this is one of your best videos. The enthusiasm and creative joy of photography is just as uplifting for the amateur as the professional. I will check out these guys' photos, and I will be looking forward to your next video to see what you come up with under different light and conditions. Blessings!
Awesome as always Gary, great to see the passion in those guys, there are so many talented photographers out there, cool that you were able to share the passion with us.
Cheers John 👍👍
Great video Gary. I had the pleasure of meeting Mali and Mikey last year at a Simon Baxter/Thomas Heaton meet-up. Great fella's and their enthusiasm is infectious. Ever fancy a trip to Nidderdale - give us a shout.
Landscape? Or cloudscape? Either way, why wasn't I invited? Inspirational as ever. Looks like you all had a great time
Love the passion too lad - all what it should be about 👍🏼
Absolutely 😁😁 Cheers Robbie 👍👍
Does it matter who you call a landscape photographer or not? The main thing is that you enjoy it; that's the only thing that matters!
Great video and message! Thanks for taking me along!
Cheers Randy 👍👍
Great video Gary.
I definitely understand the passion. It can cause some issues on the home front when you spend most of your spare time out chasing photos but it keeps me sane. I’m thoroughly addicted but there are a hell of a lot worse things to be addicted to 😊
Stunning views. Would love to be able to see that. The way the background changed and revealed the tarn behind. Just wow. Hope we can get out soon pal
What a fabulous location and stunning shot’s Gary 👌🏽
Thanks 👍 Cheers Steve 👍👍
Nice one Gary, just got back from there this weekend 🥰 although no epicness like you experienced 📷👍🏻
Cheers M8 👍👍
Great work Gary , keep going pal.
Cheers Garry 👍👍
Gary, I know this is an odd question. What is the breed of the dog that was in your video for a brief moment??
It was Mikey's dog I think. Reach out m8 and ask. I'm not sure, sorry.
Something out of ansil adams , would have loved that
Incredible Day David. Cheers 👍👍
I’m genuinely wondering why you think going out once a week taking photos/vlogging as a hobby is incredulous, it’s a hobby just like the 1,000’s who play golf, cyclists, birdspotters, ramblers, football fans etc etc. Why is landscape photography any different, all these hobbies require expensive kit, time and passion.
Hi Gary. No disrespect to these photographers but I think you are profoundly wrong. You are lauding people because they pursue their hobby. So do millions of people daily, weekly, monthly. They run, they walk, they fish, they canoe, they play soccer, rugby, netball, etc, they write books and poems, they take part in politics via demonstrations, being a candidate for office, they sail, they drive, they even fly. There is nowt special about photographers following their hobbies. Not specifically this group: all amateur photographers.
Moreover, you laud them for devoting time, effort and money to their hobby - so do all hobbyists. You praise them for putting-up with disquiet from their families because they are out - but what about those families left at home? Surely that is the opposite of praiseworthy? Did you think to interview the partners and children left behind?
Ok, there is another aspect, of course. All people need outlets away from their regular jobs and lives - and that almost-certainly makes them better people with whom to live. And it is very likely that those partners and children (be they young or adult) left at home whilst toggers are out togging, at other times have their own pastimes at which they spend time, effort and money. So that is probably balanced and healthy all-round. (though I don't know as you only looked at one side of that social coin).
But I still don't "get" why you praise amateur landscapers so. If they obtain fab results, they will be rightly praised for those photographs. But why praise their process? They are, after all, merely indulging in a selfish hobby - like most of us in the population.(I would say, equally, professional photographers do not deserve any special praise for doing their job. Where they would deserve praise is, again, if they produce excellent results and, in the case of You-Tubers, excellent YT content for the viewers - but no one deserves praise for simply doing their job or, much less, following their hobby. If we go down that rabbit-hole then we are praising everyone for everything and praise itself is totally undermined. What happens then when we want to praise public servants for hard jobs well-done for under-pay? What language is left to us if it has been sacrificed on the altar of vast over-use? (Dare I say, like "Fine-Art Photography").
Whilst I am moaning about your thesis in this video, I will also say I think you usually do an excellent job and I also see the effort you have put into this. I have followed you since you invited Thomas Heaton to speak a few years ago and I generally love your channel. In fact, if I didn't care I wouldn't watch and, even if I had, I wouldn't bother commentating. So thank you so much for all your hard work and (usually) excellent, helpful videos. All the best.
“ Stella commitment “, well I don’t mind a pint or two but I wouldn’t say I’m “ committed “ 😂😂😂
A pint or 2 is good enough for me 😁😁
