Oh my gosh I haven’t seen this since I was 9! It’s so wonderful to see this again I practically wore out my VHS from watching The Wizard Of Oz so much. Thank you so much, brings back gr8 memories. 😁
It was so weird - I would always get so excited to see the MGM/UA trailer on these tapes because it had clips from Pebble and the Penguin, which was awesome when I was a kid and still is.
Totally agree!! I was born in the 90s and even now, movies from back then or even before, are still good today. The Pebble and the Penguin, All Dogs go to Heaven, Lassie, Robin Hood, Tom Sawyer, etc.
This was the last time MGM/UA Home Video released The Wizard of Oz on VHS that same year in 1996, Turner Broadcasting, who owned MGM's pre May 1986 library was acquired by Time Warner.
I only remembered seeing the THX logo on Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection Home Videos (Like Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid, The Jungle Book)
I had this copy of The Wizard of Oz when I was little. For some unknown reason my parents gave this tape to my cousin in PA. The only way I could watch the movie without having to wait for it to pop up on television was at my Grandparents house.
Would it be more cursed if the Voice Actor of Doom Slayer from Doom Comics and/or Brutal Doom narrates Disney Videos in 1993, albeit way too inappropriate for Children and Buddies, and is so NSFW he works for the Bullies? I think that didn’t happen in our lives today. Anyway, I like how Mark Elliot provided the voice of the Narrator in Movies from the 1990s. I also like Grant Goodeve, Brian Cummings, and Beau Weaver. I also like the Bruton Music Library’s Great Ovation from Disney Films.
I have the 1999 Warner VHS of this, but this was released just three years before Warner Home Video acquired the home video rights for this and the rest of pre-1985 MGM catalogue to WB. This was one of the last of the MGM/UA Home Video releases before it goes to WB. I went to see “The Wizard of Oz” and it was an amazing film. It was shown at Bard College’s Fisher Theater, and it had a full orchestra where they redubbed the original score to match the actual movie and it worked.
Thank you to the late Robert Osborne and TCM for introducing me to classic movies like these Old Yeller Yours Mine and Ours Tom Thumb may Ben Mankiewicz continue to be the man to take over in the years to come.
It's funny that although the logo was first seen on this tape, I first saw it on "Sleeping Beauty", and this actually was the seventh time I saw THX growing up. Second to sixth were: Mary Poppins, Bambi, Old Yeller, Peter Pan, and the Little Mermaid.
I don't like the looks of this but MGM had the only way out of this MGM/UA website nonsense by releasing Sleepover on VHS in 2004 as a Family-Approved Teen Comedy. MGM also retired the VHS line-up, with THX currently putting their trailer as mentioned in the video in a DVD Copy of Princess Diaries. The Next DVD I'm Buying: Ma & Pa Kettle. THE PERFECT MAN (AND BARBIE) ALL THE WAY!
Here it is: m.ua-cam.com/video/5muiBTmaCew/v-deo.html I hope you like it, I made it pretty much the way it is. You still hear a little bit of the narrator's voice but that's just fine. Enjoy!
I get mixed up weither or not my first MGM movie was either Wizard of Oz or Pebble and the penguin when I was little. I never saw Oz till the 1999 60th anniversary release by WB.

This VHS was released by MGM/UA Home Video on September 10th, 1996, exactly one month before Time Warner acquired Turner Broadcasting.
Whoa, the melody of the MGM/UA logo at 1:02 is the same as the beginning melody of The Wizard of Oz! That’s pretty cool.
1:28 music is called "Full Speed Ahead - The Irish Film Orchestra" from The Pebble and the Penguin original soundtrack.
Bryan Mullins I love that movie
I used to watch this all the time
chrispleasantable me too. It’s timeless on account of the fact that it keeps childhood memories alive.

I remember that

My grandparents have the 1999 VHS
+Tyler Nersinger That's the copy I had as a kid
Manuel Orozco The 1999 VHS?
Correct
Mark Elliot narrating a trailer that isn't Disney is a lot more cursed than I thought!

Who doesn’t?
1939-2020 still good

Actually, killer party was the last of those titles to be acquired by warner bros. That came out in 1986.
I still remember watching this for the first time on Christmas 1996!
+Emily Luther Did you enjoy it?
I remember this famous movie and it's one of my favorite movies.
0:30 - 1:18 was in my 2005 DVD reprint of Red Dawn surprisingly.
Thank you to the late Robert Osborne and TCM for introducing me to classic movies like these Old Yeller Yours Mine and Ours Tom Thumb may Ben Mankiewicz continue to be the man to take over in the years to come.
This was the first time I was exposed to the THX logo.
The first exposure I had to it was the 1997 Bambi VHS
It's funny that although the logo was first seen on this tape, I first saw it on "Sleeping Beauty", and this actually was the seventh time I saw THX growing up. Second to sixth were: Mary Poppins, Bambi, Old Yeller, Peter Pan, and the Little Mermaid.
4:02 The audience is now deaf
I had a copy back then it had all those promos it's a pain in the ass to find that copy again
I still have mine since I was a kid. XD I'm not sure if my VHS still works though. XD
I'm gonna mute the THX Logo so it won't annoy me.

I have this movie on DVD along with The Wiz, The Wiz Live, and The Muppets Wizard Of Oz.
My VHS had no previews. Just the MGM/UA logo, THX logo and the movie.
What sort of amazing parallel universe did you grow up in because I want to move there
Theme at 2:54 is an orchestrated version of the Sherman Bros' "Gratifaction" from Tom Sawyer

THX Sound For The Wizard Of Oz
Honestly, I was afraid of MGM when I was a little kid!
best part is when the read head says what do you know about girls
The opening logo from 0:28-01:18 is also on the Midnight Cowboy DVD.
