I recently picked up a VTech "I.Q. Unlimited" kiddie computer, which is actually a surprisingly full-fledged Z80-based computer with video output, parallel printer port, word processor & spreadsheet applications, and even BASIC. Its keyboard also looks like the IIc but adds a numeric keypad. I'll have a video on it soon.
Seeing you pass on an old computer at a thrift store was shocking to me, as old computers don't exist at my thrift stores and so I'd immediately buy any computer that didn't cost a fortune. But I'm sure you've got plenty!
I'm harsh because "please" and "thanks" are two words in the English language which should never be abbreviated. If people are too lazy to type out the whole word, then they shouldn't bother saying it at all.
Wow, you seem to have some pretty huge thrift stores! The ones here in Germany are pretty small compared to that. But unfortunately the whole thrift store idea isn't very popular over here...
That thrift store is so much more interesting than the closest one to me. The others in my city are just too far of a drive to be a practical, often thing to do.
+LOLZpersonok I have an awesome thrift store near me... they ALWAYS have old computers/monitors/mice/keyboards and sell them off for under $10 NZD. Nearly always working.
+Niall Asher None of the thrift stores I've ever visited carried computers while I was there. They regularly have computer monitors and peripherals, but never the computers themselves. It seems weird to me considering the fact that Roadgeek visits a Value Village which does carry computers, yet none of the Value Village stores I go to seem to. I don't know if it's a policy they have in Canada, if there are any laws in place here which prevent them from selling computers or if people simply don't donate computers to thrift shops. Either way, I've had to rely on classified ads to get a hold of all my older PCs.
I have one of those VTech Pre Computer 1000s, they were everywhere back in the 90s and so I'm not too surprised to see one in a second hand store. Too bad it's missing its battery lid.
You guys have some unique items at your thrift shops. I really like that "Accu-Spell" word processor system. Some other items you showed are in typical thrift shop "working" condition. The past several times I've been to my local Goodwill store, I always go in with high ambitions and leave with nothing due to there being a good reason the previous owners didn't want the stuff.
That Sony clock radio, I bought for £15 in around 2008 from a local superstore. I've used it pretty much every day since and it works great! My one has AM and FM radio, however.
I have the six disc version (pd-m405r) of that pioneer CD player. It's the best player I've ever owned. It reads and plays perfectly even heavily scratched discs. I love the shuffle mode and even like the sound it makes as it cycles through the discs. Also, it has to be powered on to eject the magazines. Love your vids! Thanks!
mmmm I suppose. But Ive been really wanting a box shaped LCD monitor for a while now, I like them much better than the rectangular HP LCD I use for my XP machine downstairs.
The Unique thrift store you went to is honestly has some of the coolest stuff I've seen in a while. I probably would have been broke by the time I walked out of that store.
audi 4000 rare beast!! mind you ANYTHING from the 80's is rare as it either too pricey to buy or it was so cheap it broke and everyone brought a new one,
The thrifts around here rarely have anything and over the last year, have really jacked up the prices. I stopped visiting them much. BTW, it sounds like you are using noise reduction in the audio of this video.
It's very interesting to see an american thrift store on the inside like this, it's almost exactly the same as the ones in the netherlands except bigger and slightly different brands. But generally people do away with the same stuff. In Amsterdam some thrift stores stock good stuff because rich guys in the city center throw out their stuff too.
Where did you get this stuff. The place I went to didn't have much I didn't have already. They did have some vintage alarm clocks one like spatsbear2 has. They had 2 sony dream machine alarm clocks like the one I have but mine's been hacked up and is missing the top and original volume control. They had a console TV there as well. And my nephew had a radio like the discovery channel one you showed. Some things are broken but I mostly get them to either fix or mod and the prices are great.
Powered ready to try; They just need wagging tails. Thanks for the trip! I have Stuff that should go, but too neat. So, Next year. ? Oh my Datsun B210 GX, loved it, just Didn't Float. But, That 'Thelma and Louise' Flight was AWESOME!
True story: I bought a VB 6 book and that exact C# book (on separate occasions) at a Goodwill for $0.75 and $0.39. They asked if I'd like to round it up to an even dollar for each and I said sure.
Saskatoon has a number of drive-thru bank machines. Not every bank has one, but they're not uncommon. None of the Scotiabank locatons have a drive-thru, so I've never used one. I'd like to try it out just for the novelty of it, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg in service charges by going to another bank lol
+Richard Stevens +gangster joey I live in Canterbury which is quite a rich area and the charity shops never have any good stuff. All of them sell the good stuff on eBay. British Heart Foundation shops have I know for sure.
You have WAY cooler thrift stores than I do, lol. In a 75 mile radius I have 8 I hate them when I have time and I might find a thing or too that's pretty cool like once every 2 months, lol. I SO want that pop up TV! How COOL!! Oh you also owned a Merc 240D...I'm sorry, lol. 0-60 was measured in minutes in stead of seconds, lol. okay slight exaggeration, but not much. Great car though for comfort and built like a tank just not enough power.
I know this video is already a couple of years old, but just to tell you: I would verify whether the fluorescent paint in the digits of the air humidity meter (right at the start) are radioactive or not. I am not making this up; old fluorescent paint contained silver chloride, which radiates mostly alpha- and beta particles (not as toxic as gamma rays, but not harmless either). Might make sense to check with a Geiger counter.
No, it's probably from the '70s or '80s, by which time the danger of radium paint was well-known and it was replaced by safer chemicals -- and in this case, it is not glow-in-the-dark paint, anyway.
If your area doesn't have over the air Analog TV transmissions, you can use the WinTV to digitize VHS tapes. The one I had was able to record HuffYUV lossless video even from Macrovision-encoded tapes. And you can do a circuit board modification which will make it into a LF/VLF SDR sampler.
Hey VWest life. What model of the Sony mini disc player was that you were looking at at one of the thrift stores you were in? Mine is a Sony MDS-JE510. :)
Nice scores! That thermometer / hygrometer is really gonna come in handy, assuming it's accurate. So will the ground loop isolator! I'm very surprised you didn't get the video editor or the vintage computer though. My thrift stores rarely have good items like that. The occasional gem will appear, but mostly it's all crap, but at least there's always new items every time I go. Was this a particularly good day at your thrift store, or does it always have a lot of good stuff?
I love the thrift stores, I got a Pioneer Elite stereo amplifier for 40 bucks, thats cheap as it looks brand new and also got some Polk Audio tower speakers for 50 bucks and sold them for 100 to a guy I know who was looking for good speakers cheap
I find it pretty funny that you were amazed the Sony clock radio didn't have AM on it. Here in the Netherlands almost everyone uses FM only, AM is used very little here so for me it would have been strange if it didn't have FM on it :P
Where do you live??!!! I would book a flight to check out this thrift store,.....lol...... im lucky to come across MAYBE 1 of these neat things A MONTH!!! and i regularly frequent about 5 thrift stores in my area..
Nice finds at the thrift store! I found one of those exact same Sangean radios at a thrift store, but I don't remember how much I paid for it. A couple of dollars I think.
That Alternative hits CD is a Universal Music Group release. The possibility of it on VWest1ife is not there due to some things with Vivendi (UMG), NBCUniversal (other Universal stuff) and UA-cam
I love in Oklahoma city and have been to so many thrift stores and none of them have had anything good like some of this stuff you are finding. Only thing I found That was worth buying was an old 1980s weather radio/alarm clock That pop up Panasonic tv is awesome. I wish the stores here had better electronic stuff. Oh well I'm moving to tulsa this month so maybe I will have better luck there.
Vwestlife, what did you think of the dxing conditions during that super moon a few days ago? And did you use the sanjan or something even more powerful than that in the middle of the super moon. I used an old 1980s analog boombox. whistle. I hope I'm not bugging you with all these comments.
I have an Auto-Bild from 1987 featuring 19 models (Like the Peugeot 407 or the Mazda 929) to come out that year. And another one from 1996 (10 year anniversary issue) My dad had a 1990 Passat. The one in your book is actually a facelift
It was strange to see a V6 engined car (The Citation if i remember it from the video) with a 4 speed manual transmission, in Europe only very old and low powered cars had those. Strange choice for a high powered car. But most of the european cars you see in that book are alive and well here, well many of them will go to eastern Europe for us to buy. They still run pretty well. My second car is a 89' Plymouth Laser RS and it's still working. :D That thing is older than me.
My best finds have been at the Value Village (owned by Unique) in Hawthorne, followed by Watchung. Its worth a side trip if you are going to Microcenter in Paterson, and its in the most depressing shopping center ever.
Man, your thrift stores are loaded with some good stuff. I'm lucky to find even a decent keyboard in mine, let alone cool things like TV tuners.
That pop-up portable Panasonic TV is simply delightful.
TV goes up
TV goes down
TV goes up
TV goes down
That IBM PC where U press down to release the Floppy drive and CD/DVD drive would have been a nice find.
Seeing you pass on an old computer at a thrift store was shocking to me, as old computers don't exist at my thrift stores and so I'd immediately buy any computer that didn't cost a fortune. But I'm sure you've got plenty!
yes
I'm harsh because "please" and "thanks" are two words in the English language which should never be abbreviated. If people are too lazy to type out the whole word, then they shouldn't bother saying it at all.
Something worth doing is worth doing well. Something not worth doing should be outsourced to somebody with the desire to do it well.
👏🏿😫 preach papa
Wow, you seem to have some pretty huge thrift stores! The ones here in Germany are pretty small compared to that. But unfortunately the whole thrift store idea isn't very popular over here...
That thrift store is so much more interesting than the closest one to me. The others in my city are just too far of a drive to be a practical, often thing to do.

You really must do more videos like this. Love videos where people go to thrift stores and find stuff.
The most mind blowing thing in this vid for me as a European is seeing a drive-through ATM.
OMG I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT MOST OF THE STUFF YOU SHOWED!
Best thrift store ever!
8:46 That Panasonic portable tv was really nice. Love the opening system for the little CRT.
The radio station in the background was pretty good. I heard both the Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode
That home video editor might be an interesting gadget to mess around with, I love specialised electronics like that
I always loved those old Mercedes cars with those big square headlights.
I wax litterally crying throughout the video. .. so...much...useless...junk!!! I NEEDZ ALL DIS NOWWWWWW!!!!!!!!
hi again
dzvxo Right! Joy.
same
I have one of those VTech Pre Computer 1000s, they were everywhere back in the 90s and so I'm not too surprised to see one in a second hand store. Too bad it's missing its battery lid.
Your videos are SO relaxing!
The smooth steady tone of his voice very calming
Drive through banks? What a world
They're all over the place here. Almost every bank has one!
That radio looks more like a thermostat.
...or a portable game console
Game boy advance!
That Sony clock radio, I bought for £15 in around 2008 from a local superstore. I've used it pretty much every day since and it works great! My one has AM and FM radio, however.
Hah that Sony "Dream Machine". It wakes me up every single day. That bastard. Working 24/7 for 7 years straight.
A fun adventure! The pop-up TV thing is interesting.
RIP Goodwill AS IS store. best deals ever. long before the pickers craze
Unique indeed! Quite a lot of interesting things in that store. It's always fun to go look around even if you don't buy anything.
8:20 sony vaio stuff was always so aesthetically pleasing
I have the six disc version (pd-m405r) of that pioneer CD player. It's the best player I've ever owned. It reads and plays perfectly even heavily scratched discs. I love the shuffle mode and even like the sound it makes as it cycles through the discs. Also, it has to be powered on to eject the magazines. Love your vids! Thanks!
It might surprise you, but in Europe, especially in the west of Europe, AM is not really being used anymore. FM does get a lot of use still though
I was more interested in its ability to capture video from composite and S-video.
That Panasonic pop-up television is amazing.
mmmm I suppose. But Ive been really wanting a box shaped LCD monitor for a while now, I like them much better than the rectangular HP LCD I use for my XP machine downstairs.
The Unique thrift store you went to is honestly has some of the coolest stuff I've seen in a while. I probably would have been broke by the time I walked out of that store.
audi 4000 rare beast!! mind you ANYTHING from the 80's is rare as it either too pricey to buy or it was so cheap it broke and everyone brought a new one,
In 7 years time you do a review of a Maganvox clock radio with phone just like that one in the thrift store!
The thrifts around here rarely have anything and over the last year, have really jacked up the prices. I stopped visiting them much. BTW, it sounds like you are using noise reduction in the audio of this video.
Wow, was a prototype Fiero on the cover.
¨same stuff¨, meaning crap?
Where did you get this stuff. The place I went to didn't have much I didn't have already. They did have some vintage alarm clocks one like spatsbear2 has. Yes, I was watching this saying to myself, "there is no way I would be walking out without this, and that, and that"
You don´t even know if the stuff worked or how much money it was.

COOOOOL Thrift Store! I wish I could find one with that much old computer "junk"!
I honestly would've bought the IBM Aptiva. It seems like an interesting machine to play and tinker with.
Hobert McFarland me too
Saskatoon has a number of drive-thru bank machines. Not every bank has one, but they're not uncommon.
None of the Scotiabank locatons have a drive-thru, so I've never used one. I'd like to try it out just for the novelty of it, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg in service charges by going to another bank lol
Wish we got Thrift stores in the UK
+gangster joey Yeah but come on you never find anything like this in any charity shop.
+Philip Sempers Pop to a charity shop in a rich area. You will be surprised.
+gangster joey Life sucks. Ha.
+Richard Stevens +gangster joey I live in Canterbury which is quite a rich area and the charity shops never have any good stuff. All of them sell the good stuff on eBay. British Heart Foundation shops have I know for sure.
Try going to car boot sales. You can find a lot of intetesting stuff at them.
You should do a 'LGR Thrifts' style trip and film in the store. I would have loved to see that television set.
I actually saw a Cimmaron the other day. I was surprised.
You have WAY cooler thrift stores than I do, lol. In a 75 mile radius I have 8 I hate them when I have time and I might find a thing or too that's pretty cool like once every 2 months, lol. Great car though for comfort and built like a tank just not enough power.
That old pc looked cool. Probably an early Pentium or late 486.
14:48 Chevrolet Lumina APV! My Grandma had one! Awesome Mini-Van!
Things I would have wanted, if it were still 1990's.
WHAAA!! They HAVE drive IN ATM'S IN MURICA
you should know, you were installed on one.
ThatGTAFan720 good to know
I know, crazy right. I'm from the UK and coming here and seeing that I was like "Whaaaaaa!!!"
Windows98 *deletes System32 folder*

Nice scores
I don't know. Maybe you can see the price tag in the video.
that portable tv thing
Are the tracks in that Alternative Hits CD smashed to the levels like all of your other modern CDs in your possession?
I totally would have snagged that vaio monitor and aptiva
Hey VWest life. What model of the Sony mini disc player was that you were looking at at one of the thrift stores you were in? Mine is a Sony MDS-JE510. :)
Used to use those WinTV cards a lot. Good product
That Volvo radio was nice.
Okay, but what's with that monitor at 8:15?
Nice scores! That thermometer / hygrometer is really gonna come in handy, assuming it's accurate. So will the ground loop isolator! I'm very surprised you didn't get the video editor or the vintage computer though.

9:50 you found a SMith-Corona typewriter.
I love the thrift stores, I got a Pioneer Elite stereo amplifier for 40 bucks, thats cheap as it looks brand new and also got some Polk Audio tower speakers for 50 bucks and sold them for 100 to a guy I know who was looking for good speakers cheap

Same here in the UK, AM is around but not very popular
Gilbert C Same in Portugal.
The same here in the states. Most of the stations on FM are also on AM.
Only the part I showed. Maybe they had the rest of the computer, and somebody bought it already.
Where do you live??!!!
I would book a flight to check out this thrift store,.....lol...... im lucky to come across MAYBE 1 of these neat things A MONTH!!! and i regularly frequent about 5 thrift stores in my area..
I know that pain.
.__.
you know my pain.
He lives in central NJ.. Perhaps in Warren or Suffolk.
If you think your bad come to Australia its just glassware and furniture
0:13 Fitting that "Closing Time" is the closing track XD
when i was around 15 i always wanted a C crane radio for back masking
Nice finds at the thrift store! I found one of those exact same Sangean radios at a thrift store, but I don't remember how much I paid for it. A couple of dollars I think.
No, this one gives you back your card right away, even before you type in your PIN.
I have that EXACT same WinTV NTSC TV/FM PC Tuner card. Still works too.
I wish we had thrift shops like that here... Also its very nice to see an American driving a car with a normal manual gearbox.
kourampies oh? A normal manual gearbox? What do you mean by that?
I guess its a bit like our Cash Converters and Cash exchange , CEX stores here
That Alternative hits CD is a Universal Music Group release. The possibility of it on VWest1ife is not there due to some things with Vivendi (UMG), NBCUniversal (other Universal stuff) and UA-cam

I want that tv tuner
the radio looks like a gba lol

Yes, really. Along with using Facebook and owning a cell phone, I'm a rebel of conformity in these parts...
I quite enjoyed this video. You should do more of these "trips". :)
I oddly want to turn that humidity thing into a Tachometer and Speedometer, it just looks so fitting...
What a cool thrift store adventure video. :D
the original 'lgr thrifts"
I was woundering what that Panasonic thing at 8:45 was... Until you popped open the screen! That's a neat idea to have a portable TV like that!
I recently got that same Sony mini disk deck works pretty good
My best finds have been at the Value Village (owned by Unique) in Hawthorne, followed by Watchung. Its worth a side trip if you are going to Microcenter in Paterson, and its in the most depressing shopping center ever.
Good Lord a $3 sanjin! whistle, you have scored!
With leather case too!!
How do y’all find stuff like this? I only have radios at the local Thrift Store
2:14 it must have been a Carnivalé.
Fair enough! I lived 5 years there :)
I also looking for IBM Aptiva Stealth
Did the store have the whole IBM aptiva computer, or only the part that you showed?
