  • Here's a review of Harbor Freights 7.3a 1.9 foot pound SDS Plus rotary hammer I do some minor comparing to the Bosch bulldog 11255vsr the the unit Harbor Freight advertises as comparing to. I also do a Drilling comparison, Note: the Bauer appears to drill faster but the bottom of the hole broke out and so the Bosch ended up having to drill a deeper hole.

    That was not “significantly” faster they both clocked in @ 11 seconds put them through a trial and error test with multiple tasks.
    But just in case any one was wondering. Bosch for industrial sites and Bauer for weekend Warriors

    I used an HF rotary hammer for about 5 years (DIY), then it finally gave up the ghost. It always sounded like it was going to explode, but it kept on going. I found a used bulldog at a government auction for $30 and it runs like a dream. Bosch is hard to beat in the long run.

    I have the Bauer and abused it really hard drilling multiple holes through hardened 6" concrete floor. It never quit. If it did I would take it back and they would give me a new one no questions asked.

    Bauer is the go to tool for a contractor who only occasionally uses a certain type of tool. I worked for a contractor who bought a Chicago Electric breaker hammer for one time job about 10 years ago. At $350 at the time, it was cost effective to buy instead of renting. Years later, it's still banging out 10-15 concrete jobs a year. You can catch lightning in a bottle with some Harbor Freight tools.

    I got the 1 1/8” bauer rotary hammer drill open box today at the parking lot sale for 34.00. All the cables are tied up and everything looked factory, unlike some of the other tools that were on the table. What a great buy I think. Using it at home as I have a brick house.

    For someone needing a tool at home and not in a professional day to day manner, the harbor freight tools have been very good. I have a 3/8" drill that has been used a lot with no issues at all. I also have a jigsaw and sawzall from harbor freight. Never had an issue with either of them. I do understand the need for very dependable professional tools but for the home job, these are great.

    Harbor freight doesn't make the comparison That their tool is better or the same for less money (at least the way I see it) there stating that for 75% less cost if one is willing to drill a hole for 2-5 more seconds then 75% less cost is awesome......

    I bought one of the big hydraulic presses from Harbor and it was missing one of the thick 1 1/2" press 'V' plates at the end of the setup at home. They COULD NOT send it to me. More than a month later I got shipped the same press I had originally bought with the instructions to remove the plate I needed and send the rest of the press back on a UPS return slip emailed to me. On principle, I could have just kept the whole thing but I did return it. I've never heard of anyone talking about getting replacements parts. May I'm in that rare .0001% but I recommend buying anything at Harbor Freight with either getting an extended warranty, using it heavily during the return time or thinking of your purchase as an expendable commodity. I'm going to get the Bosch Extreme, though, after watching this. That Bauer motor running does not sound healthy. Great video, thanks.

    Good video. I've got a different model Bauer rotary hammer, has worked great up until today. Used it for about an hour, took out the concrete I had been breaking up, came back to work some more, the unit is on because I can see the light showing it is getting power, but when I pull the trigger nothing happens. Thought I'd ask if you and maybe get lucky that you knew of a easy fix?

    Harbor Freight understands their customer base. This isn't the tool you take on a daily job site. This is the tool for the homeowner like me that has a one and done job and then has the tool for the next family or friend that has a similar one and done job. I have the money to spend on a more heavy duty product/brand but it would be overkill and over spend. This thing is literally half the cost of the next cheapest one I can find at HD or Lowes that is similar design/spec with a "hammer only" mode(I'm removing 300 sqft of kitchen tile flooring). The fact they compare it to the Bosch I think is valid. You could substitute any other major brand at HD or Lowes because those are what your other options are that are similar to the Bauer..Bosch, Milwaukee, Makita, Dewalt, with prices ranging from $179-199....for a tool most us will use a handful of times at most.

      @@CatusMaximus I might suggest doing multiple hole like 3 and taking an average. The breakout might not have been the drills fault it could have been a bad part of the block or what ever. We know the tools aren't equal most likely over time it will show greater differences. It just might be a better way to test though.

      @CatusMaximus  4 роки тому +1

      I seen people sharpen tile chiseling bits to log home wood carving and notching so no reason you can't do the same with the stump. Just remember that the chuck isn't made for heavy-duty prying loads so if the chisel gets stuck in the wood you could damage the rotary hammer by wrenching on it and putting too much stress on that spindle

      You'd think adding grease would quiet noisy gears down. In my personal experience if the gears do not mesh right adding grease won't do much for them. I have a HF angle grinder that makes a racket when it runs. Greasing it didn't help one bit. I wish it did. I'd like that tool a lot more. As it is it sits on a shelf and I don't use it. I have a bunch of angle grinders so I know what they're supposed to sound like.

      @@technologicalsingularity1788 I don't think Harbor Freight manufactures anything. They just slap their name on tools others make. I'm of the opinion they are not picky about picking seconds up either. Whatever's the cheapest they can get their hands on is what they go with. Except for these new "premium" brands they're carrying lately. The Bauer and Hercules. They don't make those either. But they seem to have some QC and engineering going for them. Still not enough to justify their high price tags. If you want something decent just get a name brand.

I feel bad about it to this day but I was running out of funds in a hurry.
