- This frog was fighting a grass snake (Natrix natrix) desperately not to be eaten. The outcome of the fight seemed completely open. Did the frog manage to escape in the end? / Dieser Frosch kämpfte gegen eine Ringelnatter verzweifelt darum nicht gefressen zu werden. Der Ausgang des Kampfes schien völlig offen zu sein. Ob es dem Frosch gelang am Ende zu entkommen?

Great sequence, well filmed. These battles can last a long time because the snake has no venom to kill the prey. In my garden I once disturbed by accident a grass snake trying to eat a toad and when I returned 24 hours later the snake was in almost the same place, the toad about 3/4 swallowed and dead (presumably suffocated).
Good to see real behaviour, not staged.
Unbelievable! I had no idea that grass snakes could take so long to eat their prey. I suspect that this is not without danger for the snake, because it could probably easily be preyed on by a fox or marten.

Once the snake got his mouth around the second leg it was a done deal
It was done deal once the first leg was in the snakes mouth. The snakes teeth are angled backward so that nothing can be pulled out of the mouth once the teeth grip it.
That's an act of kindness shown by a grass snake; it tryna stop the heartbroken frog from drowning itself into the water to end its life

Лягушки так же всеядны и пожирают все, что к ним влезает в рот, насекомых, мелких грызунов, птенцов, других лягушек.

Thanks! It was a tiring job because the fight lasted so long. I filmed most of the time lying on my stomach on the shore and had to hold the camera in my hands because I couldn't use a tripod.

Yes, if a bird of prey had seen the snake and the frog, it would surely have eaten them both together. But in this case, the bird of prey would not have attacked because it would have seen the cameraman.

Acredito que a perna esquerda do sapo foi ferida no ataque. Quando a cobra colocou a perna direita na boca, o sapo não conseguiu pular.

I saw a video where frog put it's elbows outside the snakes mouth and it jumped in the water with the snake had half of it in their mouth, then another frog jumps at snake startling it, so it let frog go! Smart frogs!
Yeah,saw that on discovery.Eventhough ,the intension of the other frog had nothing to do with the other snake being eaten.It was more of a territorial behaviour by the other frog and fortunately,the other frog life was speared.....nature

Das ist ein Teichfrosch. Ein ausgewachsener Ochsenfrosch wäre vermutlich zu gross zum Fressen für eine grosse Ringelnatter.
