Aretha was not only battling cancer ,she had a terrible fear of flying . That’s why King and the Obamas were so moved to see her. She and King had a amazing connection
Even battling cancer, Aretha delivered one of her greatest performances of all time. She brought the house down and her listeners to tears. How wonderful we have so many great moments recorded to return to time and again. Excellent pick and reaction. Blessings all!
Carole King and her husband Gerry Goffin wrote this song especially for Aretha. This program honored Carole, who was obviously completely surprised by Aretha. I've seen this many times and get goose bumps every time! What a performance!!! Wow!!
Aretha no doubt is the Queen of Soul, wow just wow. Thanks Shawn this is a perfect sunny day Sunday afternoon song. Outstanding ..... emotional really. Rest in Heavens Love Aretha and thank you.
I know I have requested this in comments somewhere in a past reaction. Carole King wrote this song for Aretha to sing. Here Aretha gives Carole a special gift by singing it for her for the Kennedy Center honor. Notice Carole acting as a child at the gift, like a little child being given her heart’s dream. Also, note former President Obama wiping a tear away, and then he and former First Lady Michelle standing up and singing along. Everyone showed Aretha all the love she deserves, nobody could sing like Aretha!
Aretha was a very diverse singer with a huge talent ....if you wanna see huge type Aretha sings opera into your youtube app & you'll find Aretha filling in for tenor pavarotti who was ill & couldn't make the Grammy 's so she stepped up and killed it. Thx I really enjoy your reactions
Stephen Colbert was the host of this event. Kennedy Center Honors. He was off stage when this performance started and he said to the stage manager, “I wish I had seen her in her prime.” About 40 seconds into the performance, he turned back to the guy and said, “I’m an idiot.”
Carole King wrote this masterpiece. She was being honored that night. The Obamas were great at appreciating the Arts and Sciences. What a spectacular performance! Great choice! 🌺✌️
Geez... I obviously never saw this comin'. No real comment on it from this sub. That performance totally speaks for itself...truthfully. 🎤💐R.I.P. Aretha Franklin💐🎤
Angelina Jordan did a 'Tribute' video shortly after Aretha's passing, and whereas other A-List artists did their tributes in Aretha's well known 'bombastic' form, Angelina showed her genius in doing this song in an arrangement that is so soft and heartfelt, it will bring listeners to tears.
Great song by Carol King. She was one of 4 or 5 artists honored that night. Same sort of thing as Hearts tribute to Zep. Tapestry is an awesome CK album. Not on the album but you should review Jazz Man. Great reactions, BTW.
Shawn, I highly recommend you check out more Kennedy Center Honors, where one program (an hour long, I think), would honor 4 different artists with performances from amazing guests on stage. Many of them are here on UA-cam -- check out Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Al Green, Billie Joel, Cher, and more!
Aretha Franklin should have her birthday as a national day of honor. They should retire the name "Queen of Soul" forever being used again to describe another singer. Aretha Franklin James Brown & Ray Charles....National Treasures. Aretha is forever the QUEEN OF SOUL.

Aretha Franklin made this Carole King song a mega-hit.
It's a tribute for Carol King she wrote the song
This must be honoring Carole King, the woman in the blonde curly hair. RIP Aretha Franklin, the queen of soul! 👏👏👏♥️♥️
This performance gets me so emotional.

Oh this is unbelievable! Thank you! Nothing like this, Shawn! Enjoy. Oh Carol. Oh Aretha! Oh Lord. What talent you lent us. God love 'em both. Thanks.
No question this Diva performance is the true definition of a diva. No other pop female has ever come close. Goose bumps!!!!
The no. 1 Karen Carpenter!!!
73 years old. With cancer. Tears every time.
Carol wrote this for Aretha. Great songwriting and an awesome performance from Aretha while battling cancer!

From the first piano key I had goosebumps! I'm still tearing up typing this! Awesome!
Aretha and Carole. 2 of the baddest woman to ever walk this planet. Unreal
Her song I've Never Loved a Man is amazing. She sang and played the piano and nailed it in one take. ❤
Kennedy Center Honors has had some incredible performances over the years. This was definitely one of the best

This looks like a Kennedy Center honors forCarol King. It's like the Heart tribute for Led Zeppelin that you reacted to.
Yes, 2012

Incredible performance of a great song♥ Thanks Shawn, and thanks to the person who requested this!
Gotta love the Queen of Soul! That Paris concert was epic!!

What an honor for Carol King to have Aretha sing her song!!! They’re both outstanding artists!❤️❤️❤️

My first ever concert was a free concert at the michigan state fair in the early 90's, it was Aretha, she was incredible.
Aretha herself was an accomplished piano player as seen here.
One of the best!
BTW, beautiful reaction. There wasn't a dry eye in the room.

"Hard Rock Cafe" by Carol KIng
I never liked her, but this was special. She killed it.
Try listening to "Hard Rock Cafe" if you haven't as yet, this was also great!!!!
Aretha es 78 years old at that presentation.
Carole King wrote the song, Shawn.

Why they keep showing Barry and Mike. Ugh
This just gives me the goosebumps from my head to my toes every time I see this performance! Just incredible!
This performance was more memorable. It's also worth it for the presence of other Divas.
