Ancient Fijian Petroglyphs or Rock Carvings

- Along the Kings Road travelling from Ba to Tavua in Western Fiji, on top of a large hill on the north side of the road, there are petroglyphs or rock carvings on a large boulder on a significant mound or tumulus. Some of these petroglyphs are vaguely anthropomorphic, while two others are more peculiar in shape. Moreover, a little further on, on the summit of Magere, there is a boulder carrying signs of having been used for grinding and sharpening axes or weapons. These are a few examples of the ancient way of life going back to the dawn of Fijian civilization. Having done the "sevusevu", the traditional protocol as the form of welcome with the turaga-ni-koro (headman) of Vatutavui village - the owners of the hill and petroglyphs - we went to explore with their encouragement and blessings.
Your travel and information should be put into a history book for kids in Fiji to learn in their history classes. I learnt only about conflicts around the world which was good but left me not knowing my own country. Thank you bro for your informative videos. Love it. Vinaka!!!
Thank you! Apologies for the delay between vlogs. I've had so many issues to deal with this year plus the weather has been a huge hindrance. Back on track!! PS. My Nadarivatu vlog has been watched in schools - so I've been told.

Good to see you back mate. I'm still wondering why you aren't the face of Tourism Fiji! Promoting Fijis history and culture instead of just the resorts. Keep the videos coming!
Thank you! Good to be back in the saddle and riding hard, as they say. More vlogs to come but the weather has turned nasty.
Greetings, Khan Saab.
Thanks for uploading this. I thought the weather had been very kind in the recent past, which you were awaiting. I am glad you are back and good wishes to you.

Mr. SahuKhan, there's a pyramid in Western Samoa, when you go up stand on top it feels like mind n body becomes like magnet pull it each apart. Samoans say it's built by pre ancient race of men that doesn't exist after 3rd great flood. There's pre ancient structures all around pacific ocean island states from Japan to NZ n Easter Island. In Fiji there's legends of red headed giants, god snakes sharks etc includes structures isn't really myth when it has many elements of truth !
Thank you for that. I must investigate more. Clearly, there is so much that is wonderful and mysterious in this part of the world.
Bula 👋🏼
Interesting content, apologies I’m quite new to this channel but I’m curious to inquire what the nature or intent of this visit to these archeological sites was for? As a anthropology student this is a first for me to see petroglyphs in Fiji & I do personally wonder if these are legitimate petroglyphs & how far they possibly date back, but I appreciate and am quite intrigued by your video. Vinaka sara vakalevu for capturing this and sharing it with your online audiences.
Bula and welcome to the channel! 😃 The purpose is to uncover the histories of Fiji and the Pacific. These petroglyphs have been documented in a Fiji Museum journal article in 1988. They are legitimate because they’re consistent with creating rock carvings in volcanic rock using basalt on andesite surfaces as well as local village legends and stories.
I say old chap, thought you'd fallen off the floating island in Labasa and we'd never see you again!
😂😂😂 Still around! Been dealing with a few issues but back in business!
Wow brother amazing !!! How long have u been in Fiji for? Do u plan heading back to the UK?
