They need to bring this back to modern day espn. Sure it may not go as appreciated, but oh my gosh. Imagine the blue devils or the bluecoats just blowing away the entire stadium for all of television to see. While we’re at it, make DCI the Super Bowl halftime show. That is all, thanks for coming to my ted talk
DCI as a super bowl halftime show could work, but not really, since they can't keep the same players through the winter. They could do something like BD Entertainment though.
I was at this show in 2005 and i can say it CRAZY HOT that night in the stands and was amazed that there were no bodies dropping on the field. The humidity was filthy nasty. At point point early in the show a massive electrical storm moved in and they made everyone clear the stands until the National Weather Report showed the storm left the area and was safe for the performers. The Kraft family loved that because it forced everyone to stand in the even warmer caverns of the stadium and purchase the $ 7.00 bottles of water (shame). A few things happened that night for me - i was introduced to The Carolina Crown and The Blue Coats. I have been a fan since that Hot / Humid night in Foxboro / Foxborough, Mass 2005.
I marched a contra from the cavies and marched it my sophomore year which was 2005 3 years til I graduated and the a year with Memphis Sound d&b corps.
so in 34 years of competition the Santa Clara Vanguard had never finished in lower than 7th place?? wow...? and I remember back in the late 70's when Blue Coats fist burst onto the scene...and finally they are in the Finals
So? I've been playing saxophone for 5 years and I tried out on Baritone for SCVC and made it. I'm sure if you show your potential and commitment any open corp will take you.
Just wondering ... this was the year of Crown's "Angels" show where the ONLY number they did NOT show was Sarah McLachlan's "Angel" -- how do you NOT present the selection which would be most recognizable to non-drum-corps-fanatics?!? Trying to use ESPN was a good idea but execution was horrible -- bad camera cuts, weird angles, just overall strange -- made the old PBS productions look genius in comparison ...
I LOVE IT WHEN THE COURSE SIGN THEIR AUTOGRAPH PHANTOM HAS THE CHEVRON CROWN HAS THE CROWN MADISON HAS THE FLUIDITY SANTA CLARA DOES THE SCV BOSTON HAS CONQUEST CADETS DID THE THE G THE GARFIELD I'M TRYING TO THINK MORE LET'S SEE CAVALIERS MIGHT BE THE MIGHT BE THE ALL THE REVOLVING BOXES BUT JUST REALLY COOL REALLY COOL STUFF THAT YOU CAN HANG EACH EACH QUARTER HAS THEIR OWN TRADEMARK
2005 was the year of "Carmen" ... couldn't have a guy play Alice In Wonderland back in the day, not even a hesitation to have a "guest performer" as Carmen
It was a game changer of a show. Innovation had always been bucked against in this activity. Case and point: Star of Indiana 1993. People hated them, but now it's declared one of the best shows in DCI history.
they definitely deserved that win, 100%. design had its polarizing moments but they were clearly the best in the most captions. i loved hearing that ballad on tour all summer. that hornline improved a whole lot over the course of those first few months with gino. wasn't really impressed with the blend early season but they really pulled it together. seemed like an exceptionally good finals run for them too. (people definitely shit-talked the drum-speak in the show though for sure. ours too, but theirs more than anyone's.)
Seriously, I played a woodwind instrument my freshmen year then switched to tuba and in my senior year, i picked up French Horn in like 3 months and i can play it just as good as the next horn player! You will be amazing how simple it is, but you gotta practice!!!
Sorry (not sorry), but these were terrible. Drum Corps doesn't need more fans. Doing all the human-interest bullshit takes time away that they could have been showing us more than five minutes of a show. So many stupid choices.
I wish DCI would get back to its roots and reward drum and bugle corps for being drum and bugle corps. I did not like the Cadets program. Amplified human voice destroys something essential, beautiful, concrete and real to drum and bugle corps music and turns it into just another amplified side show. And because this program rated so high now everybody is doing it. I hate it enough to stop watching DCI if it continues.
I marched a contra from the cavies and marched it my sophomore year which was 2005 3 years til I graduated and the a year with Memphis Sound d&b corps.
nice, i was in this bloo 05 show, and my first year marching corps was with memphis sound, in 03, from all the way over in florida. my brother marched there in 04 when i was with magic. a whole bunch of mempho wound up joining me at bloo in 06 and 07, it was really cool to experience linking up with them again like that. i fully believe we would've made finals in 03 if we hadn't taken a week off right before finals. we beat everyone all the way up to the top 6 throughout the season but wound up 15th or something (after semis got cancelled because of rain). there was a whole lot of talent in that drum corps, good people, i really appreciated my summer in the 901.

Things that need to be on ESPN today
I'd even be okay with them doing this for their 8/8 "ESPN 8: The Ocho" special if it coincides with Finals Week. Heh
THEY CALLED IT A SPORT AT 1:36
1:34

They would have to do a lot of spinning around, but I love the idea
A whole championship finals every halftime? Isn't that a bit long? 🤔
I watched this entire thing at 2 in the morning and i dont regret anything.
"DO YOU NOT WANT CHILDREN TO BE EXPOSED TO MUSIC?" love it.
too bad the striked and removed my 06 and 07 videos. This one will be next.
Ghettodued aww thanks for uploading tho!
Eyoel Abera No problem!
Do you still have them? I´ve been looking for the 07 coverage. IF you want, I have coverages of PBS. 02, 03, 04. Let me know
i want them

WOAH! ESPN recongnizes DCI as a sport!
just money
they used to
Who gives a shit.
And Bluecoats have moved up to striking distance at Gold.
To be honest, it took them a decade and so much hard work to establish... no flash of the pan.
Cadets!!! That percussion feature in the ballad was absolutely insane
"The New England Patriots of drum corps" hahaha
+Elliot Rose cool
1:03:58 My favorite Phantom Regiment show to this day. ♥️♥️♥️
Did you ever see 1991? You should check it out!
I loved crowns show so much this year
We had higher ratings than the NHL that night
27:16 holy moly that's my band director
I wonder if there was anything else they could have been showing during all that time...
45:02 best show of this year imo
They need to be on espn this year
I marched a contra from the cavies and marched it my sophomore year which was 2005 3 years til I graduated and the a year with Memphis Sound d&b corps.
I dislike how fast paced the broadcast is in terms of the small interviews and the chronology of events however this was still a treat to watch!!
I bought a contra from the cavies in 2005 my sophomore year of high school. Marched it 3 years of high school and when I was in Memphis sound.
S/O to Jordan Thomas, the Cavalier who they did the metabolic tests on, who was my schools Percussion instructor and my Algebra II teacher!
Cavilers for LIFE but the cadets had that factor like Between Angels and Demons 2 brilliant shows 👌🏾👑
I wouldn't mind hearing the tape from the judge who was in front if The Cadets' tenor drums! 😁
Those mouthed drum features were RIDICULOUS!
59:29 Oh my god, that's my band director's wife.
Sam Hoffacker Whats she up to now
26:09-29:40 (you can ignore this comment, its just a note for myself)
Oh so that's where the clip came from
so in 34 years of competition the Santa Clara Vanguard had never finished in lower than 7th place?? wow...? and I remember back in the late 70's when Blue Coats fist burst onto the scene...and finally they are in the Finals
They had been making finals for almost two decades at this point.
That one girl that got sick, Shes brave! I respect her
1:29:10 man that guy just looks like someone I would not trust. SOrry George. The cadets are great. What you did along the way. Not so much
Checking her out like a juicy steak wrapped with bacon.
So? I've been playing saxophone for 5 years and I tried out on Baritone for SCVC and made it. I'm sure if you show your potential and commitment any open corp will take you.
I love the cavaliers and the cadets
I'll love it !!!!
Was that a bit of #Malagueña in the #MadisonScouts show? 😉 😁 👍
38:17 or 38:18, I think. 😃
And some West Side Story - nice! 😁
I wish they wouldn't cut the openers out...
That’s why PBS did it better.
Micheal Gaines is a friggin' Genius....don't believe me? check out Cavies Frameworks....or the Machine
As for the Cavaliers' show from that year, does anybody have an idea as to who wrote the horn line book? Their opener was awesome!
Richard Saucedo
I know a guy that played flute and got into PC on trumpet.
Yup. They needed a Carmen for their show. They did the same thing back in 1971 when they did a Wizard of Oz show.
DCI is so cool man. I wanna do it lol.
He did it
I reckon the person who composed that music at the end had definitely seen #BandOfBrothers! 😉
Boston’s drumline that year was whack l tbh, but then again I grew up around the multi tenors.
Said how hard it was for Crown to break the top 6 back in 2005. hahahahaha!
25:22 just marking something
ESPN does show anything else, I think this would get alot of views, idk why they stopped showing DCI.
Does espn not covers these anymore? ;(
no. they stopped in 2008 because it was just too expensive. they were loosing money like crazy.
Eric Medina Well, that sucks!!! 🙅 Not that I'd be able to watch it anyway - I'm in the UK! 😞
Laura Cox lol you took a year to respond. ANyway, why dont you join drum corps?
Eric Medina Oh crikey! Haha! 😁 Used to be in one, but I'm too old now. Also, haven't got a car to get places.
haha what corps?

These are literally just the multi-cam shots no?
@@juicymango8400
Appears so ... since this looks like straight off the ESPN feed ... no rhyme, no reason, no logic ...
So good to listen to
@azsxw2 you'd love Mellophone! Coolest parts in the horn book in my opinion!
40:49 yeah it's been a blast alright
Yep
17:41 lmao
RIP the Cadets
34:36...I casually pause, I see a guy that looks like my director then I realized that guy is him.
HA! I was only here to watch Zone and compare it to Stonehenge from 1998. With that in mind...I'll take 1998 Cadets over 2005 Cadets. Meh.
does Spirit of Atlanta always repeat shows?
Wait....did he say plus 1 lady for Madison?
2005 was the year of "Carmen" ... couldn't have a guy play Alice In Wonderland back in the day, not even a hesitation to have a "guest performer" as Carmen
No more park and bark.... = (
Music City from Nashville TN.
Start playing a brass instrument. You might surprise yourself.

AdamCreations I hope you decided on the mellophone 👌🏾
BLOOOOOOO
cool, I'll take that into consideration.
That guy in the 17th to 18th minute was British!!! 😁 👍 Northern, I think! 😃
34:28 Who was the lady with the Madison Scouts?
Ah, right - Carmen! That explains it! 😃 When was the other time they had a girl in the mix & why?
Wizard of Oz show :D and for Dorothy
Lucien Lopez Ooh! What year was that? I definitely want to see *that* show! 😁
1971! :D
where?
Cadets were amazing that night.
drum corps just isnt popular enough to survive on television
It's more of a funding issue...but I guess that also means it's "Not popular enough."
What the hell, I thought this was me who commented on this...
Eric Medina lol wtf who the heck are you?
Eric Medina nice. we have the same name and last name. what corps are you in?
Lmao, cause the majority of the fans are there watching it live.
I'm gonna try dude.
I don't remember anyone being happy about Cadets winning in 05' or scoring 99.150. Looking back, I still feel that way.

Ah...George Hopkins.
1:31:28 nooooo
Osvaldo Cazarin you talking about the woman who saluted earlier
Cadets 2005 was Cadets 2000's revenge on the Cavies. Just kidding lol...
@ihatenjoi What section? I know some people there.
they sure compared it to the NFL alot....
The Funky Chicken It was on ESPN....
Bob Saget lol ye
34 minutes into it, Madison Scouts singing "Youll never walk alone". Oh man😢.
i feel im getting trolled

Cubs won
Dat former BD CG captain's biceps...

dlwatib That's unfortunate for you bro
That's sucks, I really enjoyed the Cadets. They blew me away. The hornline was powerful when I saw their show live.
