  • Raydel Martinez y Diaz, musicological historian researcher
curated an unprecedented programme for famous tenor Daniel Behle exploring the forgotten, unjustly neglected contemporaries of Mozart!
Thanks to Dr. Alessandro Lattanzi for his generous correspondence during various research related inquiries whilst investigating and seeking to examine the finest tenor gems ever to have been written of the composer Luigi Gatti.
Here is a rediscovered gem by composer
    Luigi Gatti (October 7, 1740 - March 1, 1817).
It features virtuosic fanfares and concertante obbligati written for the
    natural horns.
    Daniel Behle, tenor
Salzburger Hofmusik, ensemble on period instruments
    Wolfgang Brunner, conductor and fortepiano
recorded live on Sunday 5 May 2024 at 7pm
at the Max Joseph Saal Der Residenz München, Bavaria, Germany.
transcription performance edition produced by Dr. Luca Bianchini, Dr. Anna Trombetta,
and commissioned to them by project curator Mr. Martinez y Diaz.

Poesia di Pietro Metastasio, from his dramma per musica:
    La Nitteti
Gatti's setting was written for Mantova, 1779.
    Last King of Egypt, Amasi:
    Puoi vantar le tue ritorte,
    fortunato prigioniero,
    tu che amore hai condottiero
    sul camin della virtù.
Tu non dei, com'è la sorte di color
    che amore inganna,
    arrossir d'una tiranna,
    vergognosa servitù.

Thanks for the "rediscovery". The tenor and two horns "trio" is truly amazing. This beautiful emsemble reminds me of a similar emsemble at a Munich church years ago. (Horns, strings and harpsichord....)

Thanks for sharing, this is an exquisite aria and easily on par with Mysliveček's horn bravura arias.

Felt to me like a very successful 1st attempt into a bravura-for-all Gatti's outpouring of virtuosity. I have to wonder how these musicians & singer would ripen into the piece, because it could turn out a hit gem!

Leopold is not known to have ever composed something remotely similar in quality to this aria, in fact Archbishop Colloredo at Salzburg hired composer and priest Luigi Gatti - and Leopold envied him for this preferential inconvenience as he wanted the kapellmeister position at Salzburg but he and his son Wolfgang will you know both expelled from the court of Salzburg and went on to work elsewhere. So now you are aware of the historical context and to even remotely associate Gatti's style with that of lackluster Leopold as insulting than a fair comparison. Haha either way I'll take your comment as an attempt at being complimentary and I appreciate it - just as a specialist I find it my due to clarify things at times jeje thanks 😉

Gatti quality is closer in style to that of his contemporaries: Anfossi, Paisiello, Monza, Gazzaniga, J.C. Bach, Mysliveček.
