It staggers me that after the full details of how close we were to a points deduction have emerged, how anyone can say we haven't done amazing work in this window. This is not Football Manager, you can't just do what you want. With how tight it will be at the top of the table, a 10 point deduction would probably have put us out of Europe all together. They deserve endless respect for how they negotiated this. UTV

Well done John Townley on some good journalism this week. It is important to hold the powerful to account and the CEO got off very lightly until recently for bizarre decision making and picking fights with fans of aston villa
Football fan here. I recently listened to a pod cast on the square ball. They had a guest on called Micky Kerr, he’s written a book on what has happened to our game and his plan to put it right, and how clubs and communities can benefit. In light of Villa fans being completely ripped off with ticket prices, I think your listeners will be very interested. He’s happy to guest on your podcast. All the best for the season.
First of all lets all acknowledge the masterful job Monchi, Emery and Co have done in navigating these mountainous hurdles to keep us competitive with the so called stacked deck club aka top 6. They didn't just sell a key talent they also made the right decisions (no panic) in improving our squad for this Prem season and for CL while in parallel managing our future prospects with the incoming and outgoing young talent.
It's abhorrent that clubs like us, Newcastle, Brighton to name just a few have to navigate hurdles the exclusive aka top 6 don't have to. And it begs the question (actually a lot of them) what is the criteria under which Levy andare awarded and applauded for being the best run club last season??? And why is the FA's priority seemingly in support of ONLY making sure the top 4 thrive with no genuine care for the rest of the Prem teams or those in lower leagues. I'm fuming... 🤬
Its worked out fine under the circumstances. Im happy with our squad. Good work Monchi/Vidagany/Unai in trading players. People act like we havent spent a fair whack too.
It used to be the received wisdom that it took a manager 3 years to build "his" team, and that's before he had one hand tied behind his back by financial regulations. In less than two years Unai, Monchi and Vidagany have already shown us what can be done through good coaching and shrewd recruitment. In another year or two when the poor decisions made under Gerrard are off the books and we've had time to strengthen I see no reason why Unai Emery's Aston Villa can't achieve the things done by Ron Saunders team.
Chris hecks assessment that we ain't moving from villa Park, means surely without significant extra capacity, we'll struggle to match the revenue other clubs generate, prices can only go up , a disaster for the normal fans?
All these so called fair play rules are super frustrating for teams, like Villa, trying to challenge the establishment. When you can't afford to spend £20million, which is pretty low by nowadays standards, on your number 1 defensive target it gets even more frustrating. Are we still trying to undo the mess and wage bill mess created by the Gerard and Purslow regime?
What will forever frustrate me, and fans of many other clubs I'm sure....is how Man City can continue to operate when they are presumed to have 115 potential chatges against them, where as clubs like us, everton, forest, etc, have limitations put on us in terms of when things have to be solved by. It's frustrating and creates this notion of us versus them where it feels like any club with ambition (regardless of their history) is being halted in favour of those in the status quo and it's completely anti football.
Ok, question for the group. I’m playing a game of Premier League ‘blackjack’ with friends this season (starting now) where you have to pick and 4 PL players with the aim being to get to 21 total goals over the rest of the season. If one of your players score zero goals, you lose, if you go over 21 total goals, you also lose. Closest to 21 at the end of the season wins. Being obsessed, I’ve gone with Bailey, Rogers, McGinn and Ramsey. Do we think those four combined will get about 21 goals? Or way more/less? Have I got a chance?
@@ClaretBluePod Oh no what a pain in the arse. Anything you can resolve? ore you got to stick with this music now? If you have a budget get something stuck up on 5ver, im sure someone could make you something very similar copyright free :) Hope its all sorted now anyway.

Money has and is ruining the game, no doubt, but we are where we are and you have to say that a) Villa have done everything that they could have done and b) as an outfit and stewards of the club, the ownership are as responsible as they possibly could be. I just hope that they continue to act like B when the super league rears it's head again, because I'm confident we would be in the picture, but it shouldn't come at the cost of association football. We'll have a good season. Thanks for the insight and analysis. UTV

Great to hear from you guys but surely we have to see there's a reason why they've released all these psr deadline stories just a day before releasing the CL ticket prices which are insulting to the fans. I'm not being cynical....its blatantly obvious. Poor from villa off the pitch...... again!!
New to the podcast, but over 30 years a Villain 🦁……Alarming to find out how close we were to a points deduction 😮 Good luck with the Podcast for the rest of the season 🤙🏻
This podcast is just an advert for the recruitment team. They have done some good but if you are going to analyse try and be objective. Luiz being sold for £40m on the last day was a shambles and bad planning. It should have come to that - we should have got a lot more for him and not been in that situation. To compound that with the prices for tickets today is outrageous. A successful team that the average loyal lifelong fan can only watch on tv is not a good outcome!
Don't forget that a lot of the damage in terms of high wages and not being able to move on older players would have been created by the people that had power before them.

Best signing is Tielemans he was good for Leicester but under Professor Unai you can see a relentless improvement to a higher level
