I changed over to Nellies because I was always itchy. Now not only are my clothes itch free, but my front loader smells fresh every single time I use it. Before I was using Tide and there was always a build up I’d have to clean up. Nellies not only cleans clothes well, but my washing machine looks brand new inside 👍👍
I'm still using a top loader and I've had no difficulty with Charlie's Soap. I do add vinegar to my wash as a softening agent, so perhaps that mitigates any itchy factor. Also, I use wool balls in my dryer in lieu of fabric softener sheets. I don't want a scent to my laundry, so Charlie's suits me better, though a lemony scent wouldn't be bad, as far as I'm concerned. I respect your choices for your situation. Good assessment video!👋
Nellies doesn't have added scents, it's the natural smell of the laundry detergent ingredients. There's only 4 ingredients, all for cleaning purposes not scents. I don't think it smells lemony at all, just a fresh kind of smell. Kind of like any other unscented product, it has its own smell but not from added scents.
I just bought Nellie's and have been using it for a couple of weeks I think it makes your clothes smell really fresh it's hard to explain it's almost like that smell your clothes used to have when you hung them out on the line years ago before they started spraying our skies
I have used Nellie’s Laundry Soda in the past and it seemed to work for a while but then my clothes started getting more dingy and it wasn't cleaning them very good. Like most people who try nellie's soda someone in the family is allergic. I now using tide free and gentle and it works great. No allergies and my clothes are clean. I find the free and gentle pods a too much for small loads so I buy the liquid and use accordingly. I am interested in trying the ecoegg laundry but I am very reluctant since the ad's are most likely hipe just the nellies nuggets. I'll sit on the fence until I read more believable reviews.
Yes, I ended up returning my ecoegg. It, like every natural laundry detergent I’ve used, works at first and then laundry just isn’t clean anymore. So I have had the same issues as you. It got so bad that even my son commented one time when he pulled a clean shirt out of his dresser that it smelled bad. I am debating whether or not I should post an update on where I’m at with my laundry routine these days; I had to forgo all things natural in order to feel like a “clean” member of society again. It’s disappointing but it is what it is.
I've been thinking about switching from Charlie's to Nellie's because I'm looking to avoid excess plastics. Thanks for showing the tin (and that it comes in plastic inside the tin). I think I'll stick with Charlie's since I can just get it at my grocery store and I don't use a front loader so I haven't had any issues. This video was literally everything I needed to know to help me make my decision. Thank you so much!
I’m so glad this helped! And Charlie’s is still my number one; it definitely cleans better than Nellie’s. And yes the tin Nellie’s comes in, while it’s nice, doesn’t eliminate plastic.
Thank you! I just impulse purchased a huge 400 tub of Nellie's on Costco because today was the last day of their sale. I'm still on a search for the best natural soap (been on this quest for years,) so I'm hoping Nellie's is a winner! I have the gross armpit smell on my shirts too =( Thank you for the tidbit, it was a piece of information I definitely wanted to know haha!
Lol! You’re welcome! You should have great results with that! If you continue to have the stinky armpit smell, you may need to spray your shirts in the armpit area with an enzyme cleaner like Nature’s Miracle to really destroy the odor first. Especially if you dry your clothes in a hot dryer which bakes in the smell. Good luck!
Everyone keeps saying it smells lemony, i detect no lemon scent so i wonder if there are different scents? Either way, makes the laundry smell so insanely clean and not perfumy!
Nellies powder is unscented. I don't think it smells lemony either but all unscented items do still have a smell of whatever is in them and usually hard to pinpoint what an unscented product smells like if you know what I mean. It smells "clean" to me lol, but clean might smell like tide or gain or dish soap to someone else.
I ordered a huge bucket of Nellie's in January 2019. That was the first time I tried it. I think it's terrific. HSN offers it....& every January they sell the great big bucket for the lowest price. There are 2 varieties of Nellie's ….the one I have has POW in it...they added their oxygen booster & enzymes....& boy, it cleans well w/those 2 added. I ordered another bucket just last week when it was on a super duper sale again. No shipping....it came to about $53. for a 400 load bucket which works out to a mere 13 cents per load. Some other time of the year they also offer the Nellie's that doesn't have the added oxygen & enzymes & boy, the price is phenomenal. I like that it's just basic laundry soda, costs me way less than what's in the stores, & cleans so well. It's amazing how little you need for a load ! By the way, I'm noticing most people seem to think HE washers are front loaders exclusively. I have a top loading washer that has an agitator & it is an HE washer. That's another thing...I've heard podcasts where people say if it's a top loader HE, it doesn't have an agitator. I'm setting the record straight. You can get a top loader w/an agitator & it's HE. (smiling) I have used Charlie's & I have also used Method & Watkins.
Pat Wagner That’s awesome! I didn’t realize they sell it with added enzymes and oxygen powder. I will check it out on HSN since it must be exclusive to them. Thank you for letting me know. And yes, there are all sorts of versions of high efficiency washers. Although I am happy with my front loader, you’re lucky to have any agitator!
@@doriandosuzannah6685 You are welcome! I did a quick check on Amazon...they have Nellie's but it's the one w/ out oxygen & enzymes..they sell the oxygen booster separately. So, yeah, maybe the one w/ POW (as they call it) is only thru HSN. HSN has the best price, too...but you have to catch it on that one day ....
Nikola S Hi Nikola! Nellie’s Laundry Soda is a laundry detergents in itself. If you have the Nellie’s Oxygen Brightener, that is added to detergent as a color-safe bleach booster. But the laundry soda is laundry detergent and should not be combined with another laundry detergent.
Are you still using Nellie's? I have some H2O liquid soap that I haven't tried yet since I'm waiting to run out of Nellie's. I'm also using some tide pods and notice I'm having a smell in my washer. Just wondering what's your favorite these days.
Hello! About a year or so ago, I found that Charlie’s Soap had reformulated their detergent to use 100% plant based surfactants and I tried the new formulation and fell in love all over again. It does seem to clean my husband’s greasier work clothes much better than any other detergent I’ve used. I do still like Nellie’s but, for now, I am a Charlie’s user.
@@doriandosuzannah6685 so glad I drilled down in your comments! I've only used the new formula and I've found it very effective. My husband's shirt collars are no longer greasy after using Charlie's Soap and some vinegar. Before, I was having to use Dawn dish soap to soak in advance to get the heavy skin oils out, but Charlie's does the trick without any extra work!
Is Nellies still working for you better than Charlies? I am asking because I am interested to make a change. I have been using exclusively Charlies for 15 years now (Yep! and happy with it) but I feel like making a change just for fun. I am bored with getting Charlies all the time hahaha. I like the Nellies can Lol. I do also feel like Charlies could do better job with my boys' and husband's sports and outside clothes. You mentioned Nellies does better job with your shirts underarms. I wonder if you are still happy with it after all these years of using it.
Nellies is refillable ! I like being eco friendly as well and there’s a store I go to a few cities away to refill my Nellies tin! That way I avoid using any unnecessary plastics !
Hi hi! So in the Nellie’s website it says not to use on wool or silk. It’s a deal breaker for me. Have u out anyone else tried it? Can I still use it on cleaning my wool clothes?
svce2007 Hello: since Nellie’s pow powder is a biological detergent, meaning it contains enzymes, you cannot use it to wash wool and silk. The reason being is enzymes attack protein based stains, like egg and ketchup, and since wool and silk are also made up of proteins, the enzymes can’t differentiate between the two and will attack the wool and silk fibers causing them to breakdown and make holes in the garments. You can use Nellie’s laundry soda or whatever enzyme free detergent you would like to wash these items in instead.
You unintentionally gave the reason for your itch that developed. Your old non HE top loader will out clean any HE front loader because it uses water. You need water to clean and rinse clothes. No water and the residue, dirt, sweat, etc will remain.

Vinegar can eventually wear down any rubber parts of your machine, use with caution

To get rid of build up and it grease, use a little squeeze is Dawn. It destroys grease and easily washes it down the drain.
Got my Nellie's laundry tin from Costco, much cheaper. I am trying to avoid Amazon if possible as they don't pay much tax.

Maybe instead of relying on ads you should consider the lack of any scientific basis for ecoeggs.

Soft clothes while using balls not softener sheets

I bought the 5 gallon bucket and only one tablespoon per load. No smells and clean clothes. Plus I can use the bucket for other things later
I like Nellys but I did find that it makes me itch. I just ordered Charlie’s so I really hope that it works for me.
Make sure you are using the right amount for the load size and your water-type. If you use too much, it won’t rinse out and can cause itching.
@@doriandosuzannah6685 yes I did use the correct amount.

you put it in the dispenser or directly on the clothes? It doesn't say anything on the package, so I assume in the dispenser is ok?

Does the Nellie’s booster soften water?
One of the ingredients of Nellie’s Laundry Soda is sodium carbonate which does soften water.
