The quarternary animals is what gets me the most excited about this game! I hope we get DLC for more of them to be honest! Smilodon would mainly attack the throat to avoid breaking their teeth and they could open their jaws 180 degrees! They were really quite awesome. Really can't wait to see these in the game! Love the habitat build too! I wonder if we'll get enrichment items for the animals in the future?
Fun fact: Smilodon (and other sabertooth cats in general) discriminated far less when it came to fighting competing predators. There are quite a few examples of dire wolf and sabertooth skulls (along with a painful example regarding a Homo erectus in Western Asia and Megantereon- Smilodon’s ancestor) where the cats bit straight into the skull of the competitor, sometimes killing them outright. Interesting to think of how cautious they were with prey, and how that caution is thrown to the wind once a competitor shows up to steal the cat’s hard-earned kill
There's actually a fossil found of a Sabertooth with it's long canines in the skull of another Sabertooth, which suggests their fangs are stronger than originally thought
Actually gemma.... Smilodons had excellent dental care for a brief period of time but they kept eating their dentists so they quickly grew extinct. I suppose if you're stupid enough to volunteer to work in a Smilodons' mouth, you deserve to have natural selection take care of you.
