What is driving me crazy is that none of this would be an issue if AJ had not blown $280 mil on Xander Bogaerts. And even with Xander on the roster this still wouldn't be an issue if they moved Xander to LF rather than 2b. If Juan Soto can play LF I have zero doubt that Xander could play just as well out there, and we wouldn't be worrying about a 20 year old rookie holding his own at the plate while transitioning to a new position. This keeps your best SS at SS and allows your best 2b to move back to 2b. Its a lot easier to fill that 1b hole. You know that Shildt has to know this but Xander in all his unselfish glory would never consider moving out of the infield. Whatever happened to the days when the manager made the lineup and just told the players where they were playing that day?

Amen. Preller needs to start taking responsibility. Hey, Hosmer just retired. We still have to pay him though.

He will be fine, I get the worry of a full season of The Show but he can platoon with Profar and honestly being ranked where he is is a testament to his skill set. He’s facing big league pitching now and will transition fine.

If he struggles and you send him down, that can hurt his confidence and his chance to bounce back.

If you bring him up too early, and he slumps, you have damaged an investment. he's 20 give him a couple bus league years before treating him like Tatis
On the other hand, Pads are not going to compete for NL west in 24, Bring the kid up and be patient as he develops

Merrill should go to minors and take over SS next year or when Kim is gone
