Thank you so much for this video! You're right, all the other videos on the subject are about visa's and rent, ect. This was about your soul & it's need and it was very helpful and realistic! Especially during a time where we're all sad and lonely and staring at a different beautiful countries through our screens longing for something different. I definitely am falling into escapism and this video will help me actually map out what it is I want and need, and what I'm willing to sacrifice. I'm new to your channel and I'm loving it here!! Beautifully said and edited!
I'm so glad you liked the video and it was helpful for you:)) I'm truly happy for this!! and where would you move in your imagination? btw I'm escaping through youtube as well haha
@@barbart_ definitely Italy!! France and Spain intrigue me as well 👀 but for the past few years my heart has been staring down the Italian lifestyle! I’m from the US so it’ll definitely be a culture shock
@@Rosilove99 yaaay Italy is amazing!! But yeah its difficult to choose, there are so many great and beautiful places on Earth:)) about the culture shock in the end the point is that you stay open minded and you stay patient because all of this needs time and a lot of work:)
barb this is a great one! i've been thinking of moving to venice for a few months and then i remembered you and your channel! love the advice and as always your videos are so beautiful
Yaaay that’s great, I spend a lot of time in Venice because of the association I’m working in:) I live in the countryside tho! Feel free to ask anything, maybe I can help:)
I love watching your videos! It feels like I’m chatting with a friend over my morning cup of coffee ☕️☺️ I thinking going to visit a country first (ideally a longer visit) is the way to go. In the past I’ve been a sucker for that lovely ✨honeymoon✨ period 🥲
I’m so glad you are here and enjoying my videos:) where do you want to go first?✨ I love the honeymoon phase, it’s amazing to understand a new culture 🌸
Fantastic video! I love all your advice - it’s exactly the same things I thought about before moving abroad. I’m from the US and I’ve lived in Argentina, Spain and Germany.
Ciao Barbara! I really loved your honest opinion on these topics! It is true, when we move to another country we are experiencing a whole different way of life. And before moving, we should not only consider the practical stuff but more importantly what could affect our emotions. You are a beautiful soul, Barbara! Greetings from Lake Garda, Italy 🇮🇹🤗
You are too sweet Ann!! I’m glad you love my art:) I’m making an online shop at the moment, in the meanwhile you can find my Instagram page in the description of you are interested:) 💖🌸
Brava, Barb!!! Very valid points! I lived in Japan for nearly 18 years and I loved every moment of it, but it got to the point where I was missing family a lot. My parents were getting older and I missed everyone so much I ended up coming back to the US. No big deal, but yes, Japan is different, but they're human just like everyone else and it takes time to find good friends. And yes, you do have to speak the language!!! If you don't, you are like a caged bird. Life opens up when you can communicate. I want to visit Italy to see if I like it, but I would like to visit the south. I'll let you know after I get there how I feel about it. Thanks for the info!
Thank you for sharing your story, it was great to read it! I always say when you are learning a language in the country itself, it feels like you are swimming up in the water - you hear and understand more what people are talking about in the surface.
Thank you for sharing about the different phases of a move! It would be lovely to hear more in depth about the phases of a move and adjustment since now you’ve been in Italy for 6 years. I live in Austria and although I love so many things about the country, the safety and the good Drs I so not see myself living and dying in German. I struggle in it even as I’m learning the language now. I day green of Italy.
thank you for your thoughts! Are you interested about the time after 2 years? When you think about living in a place for life? That can be a great video for sure, if you have time please try to articulate your questions so I can answer them well:)
I have my sights set on 🇮🇹 and even though there are some videos on youtube explaining their moves I would still love to hear from you based on your experience or other people you know. Especially on the nitty gritty. Watched tons of videos about it but they all complain about the italian bureaucracy. What about it specifically? What do we need to watch out for and are there any tips? Your videos are very clear and explanatory on top of being entertaining so I would love to hear your thoughts!
That chart on cultural adaptation is so profound. I, a New York state girl, moved to South Africa for 6 years. When I returned to USA, I went to North Carolina. Huge mistake! I was more at home in Pretoria! Some day, I will tour Europe and perhaps live short periods in Italy.
I went through the exact phases of the adaptation graph when i went to live in Venezia for college in 2019. I'm graduating soon from a fine art degree in ireland and want to go back to live in italy. Is art your main source of income? I would love to make a living with my art as soon as it's possible but im afraid of moving and attempting to work in my fields since art can be so unstable
@@barbart_ I’m in the countryside of Venice, in the trainline between Venice an Trieste. I don’t know your place, seems nice, I’ve never seen it. I lived always all around here but the presence of that place of yours seems otherworldly 😅 I want to go to the Accademia as well, I lived in giudecca, in front of it. The view is super.
And I left out one point: this all changes if you fell in love with someone from a different country hahahaha
AWESOME upload!
I’m so happy you are here Deborah!! And I’m glad I can help:) where would you move after uni??
So glad I found you. Your points are thoughtful and well communicated. Your comments on kindness warmed my heart. You speak truth!
