One bedroom radiator was freezing cold, no air in the radiator so followed the next step to check the TRV pin and it worked a treat! Radiator lovely and hot again and no more freezing cold bedroom. You are so generous to share these tips with those of us who have no plumbing skills whatsoever and you explain things so clearly. Thank you!
hi, just wanted to say a big thanks for this video. I have had four cold radiators for the last two years, one of which is in my bedroom, so bloody freezing in winter! Several plumbers told me that I needed a full flush-through of the whole system etc, quoting me £250 plus, to do the job. Never had that kind of spare cash. Happened to look at this video, and although I'm certainly no plumber, I tried it. fixed all four rads within twenty minutes and cost me nothing. Can't thank you enough! :-)
One of my radiators won't turn back on after turning if off. Discovered that the pin was stuck down. I didn't have pliers or any tool that can easily wiggle the pin. I made a little modification. I put a drop of lubricant over the pin, waited it to soak for a few minutes. Using one of the claws of a hammer, I tried to push the pin inwards in all directions, mimicking wiggling movement, and voila!... the pin popped out and I felt the pipe heat up in seconds! Brilliant! Thanks for the advice!
I had the same problem. Try stuck in closed position. Discovered that trv pressure plate Wass stuck in closed position so after ensuring that the pin moved freely I drilled a hole in the pressure plate to allow the pin to go through it. Problem solved
Turned out that the pin was stuck down. Used a bit of WD40 and the pin freed itself. Now the pin moves up and down freely and my radiator is working well 🙌🏻 no need to go out and buy a new one 😁
been without a hot radiator in my bedroom for 3 years, watched this video and discovered the pin was stuck down. Now my radiator is working again .You sir are a STAR, thank you.
Oh my goodness, I have gone without heat in one room for years and years and just got to the point that I was fed up. My radiator is now working!!! It was a stuck pin head in the TRV!! Thank you so much for posting this!!
I MUST say Trade Radiators have saved my ass more than once. I am an IT technician, no clue on DIY no clue on radiators.....yet thanks to these videos such as this one here, I have saved myself money and I learned how to maintain my radiators. THANKS VERY MUCH Trade Radiators, you guys are amazing.
Much appreciated. Managed to get the radiator working in a really cold bedroom. We didn't have the money to pay for someone to come out at the moment. Thank you.
Just watched video having had a cold rad for months. Fixed in 2 minutes. Great tutorial as he doesn’t waffle on for 10 minutes. Thanks for saving me a fortune.
Mate, just installed a boiler by a company. My attic heater was not working. The plumber said it was the existing pipework fault and needed new pipework costing £450 without VAT. After watching your video I removed the thermostat and seen the pin was stuck in. I lifted with pliers and just like magic the pipes were red hot. You just saved me 450 quid. Thanks a lot.
Amazing advice! I actually tried bleeding the heater first before seeing video but it was full with water? So decided to you tube the problem. I removed the trv valve as suggested, wiggled the pin and heater started working immediately!!! Saved me waiting days/weeks for an engineer. Many thanks 😊 spot on
Freeing the pin in the radiator valve worked for me. I wish I had watched your videos earlier, my radiator was not heating last 2 years. Big thank you!
Here in France, I was freezing because only one radiator in our living room was working. I followed your explanation by freeing the pin in the radiator valve and it worked. Very clear simple instructions which we really appreciated
Just fixed my radiator thanks to this video. The TRV pin was stuck which I never would have known to check. Saved me the cost of a plumber. Thanks a million!
Thank you for your advice about the heating; it really helped a woman like myself manage my heating system without having to call plumbers that cost an arm and a leg.
Mate, thank you sooo much! Having trouble with my radiator since the winter started this year and never fixed a radiator before so easily. It took me around 7/8 mins to fix the radiator problem. Much appreciate.
After having some alterations done. Had two cold radiators. Not having had heating on for sometimes I had noticed until I did job. Tried everything except adjusting the lock down valves and bingo all working. Brilliant. Thank you very much.
New Years Day & we had 1 cold radiator. This video came up first & fixed the problem & took moments to do. Thanks very much, we are delighted. If it had been a working day, we would have called a plumber!
I just needed to watch the first 2 minutes. Did what Jimmy said and everything's just fine. My issue was the lock shield end. Loosened that and you could hear the flow instantly. Thanks Jimmy.
Thanks so much. Fitted a new radiator but no where in the instructions was the info to turn the lockshield one turn. For a newbie at DIY I need to be talked through everything. Your vides are super helpful
Hi, woke up to a stone cold rad this morning. Watched this video... Went to remove thermo-valve. Wouldn't budge. Answer? Use a larger adjustable spanner! Freed off pin etc all now working. Thank you so much for this, if you're ever near Thrapston, Northants, I owe you a pint too!!
Hi jimmy good video, i would just like to mention a point where i have come across the same issue sometimes it is usually because it will be the last radiator on the system especially if there are a lot of them in the household, and for some reason i have come to a few houses where all the lock shield valves are all fully open so the pressure is not balanced and therefore there will be not enough pressure to the return on the last radiator. so i usually just go and turn down the lock shield valves and balance all the radiators on the system and that cures the problem.
absolute legend. rad stopped working in son's room. we thought it was due to new rad in conservatory. watched this vid, back on in a jiffy. great work!
Followed your instructions, worked a treat Happened to be the last scenario which you said Drain the radiator, completely air pocket removed Radiator working
I have just watched this clip and tried it, thank you, our spare room is finally starting to warm up for the first time since moving in! Fingerscrossed this will be the last of the mould on the walls. :-) one happy viewer!
Fantastic!!!!! You've saved me calling out a plumber. The problem was exactly what you said.....the pin was stuck. I know where to come in the future if I have a problem with my plumbing. Thanks again Jimmy.
although i live in rented accomodation this has saved me the hassle of waiting in for an engineer and stopped the missus moaning about the cold bedroom. many thanks! Great advice!!
Thank you so much for this, my TRV pin had become stuck and I lived without heat in one room for a whole year!! It was so easy to fix with your advice. Thank you!!
Hi I would like to say thank you trade radiators for the guide. My radiator was half warm when I saw 👀 this clip, it solved the problem thanks once again happy 😊
Happy days, cheers for posting... One cold rad in my lounge when put on for the first time after the summer. Turned out it was the stuck thermostat valve. Rectified after watching this vid. Thanks again 👍
Thank you for posting this. I've just moved to a new house and one of the bedrooms radiators wasn't working. I followed the steps and after a few minutes, it was nice and warm again! Thank you for taking the time to make great quality content that helps people out and saves them money!
@@traderadiatorsneed your help got a house where radiators aint been switched in in along time and put them on but still not heating up theres a bit under the radiator i dont know what it is
Thank you so much. With it being close to Christmas I thought I wouldn’t get anyone out to look as the radiator in my room went cold. With this video I fixed it in only a few mins. Thank you it won’t be another cold night for me. :)
Another thank you post. One of my kitchen rads has never been hot. Bathroom one recently stayed cold. Got it working my loosening the pin thing with wd40 and its now hot. Tried it on other rad in kitchen and for the first time ever I have all radiators working. Thanks a million.
It's yet another time where tradesman's video helped me fix my problem (boiler being the first, washing machine being second). The pin was stuck and didn't want to even wiggle, but I washed some blue powder off with damp cloth, left it slightly wet for a couple of mins and then it started to wiggle just fine. Dried it with another cloth, put valve on and it heats fine.
Just stumbled on your tutorial and checked the pin - it was stuck. Bit of wiggling and it popped up and hot water flowed into the radiator!! My wife thinks I'm a genius now so do you mind if I keep the credit... :-) Thanks v much. Great job!
Thank you for posting this. Fixed mine today. The flow had been closed off completely by the fitter who installed a towel warmer in the adjoining ensuite. Followed these instructions and was sorted in 10mins. Great simple to follow advice.
A huge thanks from my end too. One of the radiator was getting cold after an hour always while other were being hot. I removed radiator tail and adjusted trv pin, may be it was stuck. Radiator is working fine now as of other radiators. God bless you! :)
Amazing thank you so much! my bedroom and bathroom radiators haven't worked in years and always dread the winter and this fixed it! .. The pin was stuck solid .. still doesnt spring but the water flowed they are now toasty and warm! thank you!!
After watching more than a few YT videos, yours is the one that got the heat flowing. All of my valves ae in different places, but you explanation was easy to follow. Thank you!
This video was perfect! I had two radiators which stayed cold and even though I know a bit about plumbing I’d never thought about being a stuck pin. Solved my problem. Thanks so much!
Thanks you very much. Fixed my daughters rad in about a minute after watching this. Also improved my others too, so looking forward to a nice warm evening :-)
Thank you very much for this video. My problem was the trv pin being stuck. Wouldn't have know that even existed or what to do with it without this video.
This was great advice thanks. I know nothing about plumbing (clearly), but your info has enabled me to get the radiator working. It was the pin under the thermostatic valve. Thanks again.
What can I say, Jim fixed it for me (sorry about the connotation). I have been bleeding and balancing radiators at home all morning, the one problem radiator would not get |F!$&ing hot, then I found this video, I took off the thermostatic rad valve top and there it was, a sticky plunger!, I've now had to turn the boiler down 6 degrees because the place is too flippin hot! Thank you

One other thing that worked for me if any of the other hints in the video still don’t get it working. Go round all your working rads and turn down them all to zero on the TRV. And run the boiler it may clear any small air lock you have. You may also have to top up the pressure on the boiler after.
You are brilliant!!! Thank you so much --followed instructions in your video and it worked, radiator became hot immediately! Hope it lasts, paid a lot of money to get it fixed last winter!!! Really appreciated your video. jeni
