- Pierre Boulez was one of the most radical composers of our time. Director Reiner Moritz, who worked closely with Boulez time and again through the years and almost had a friendly relationship with the composer, tries to get as close to the real Boulez as one can possibly get in this documentary.

My first wife and I were Pierre's family when he was director of the NY Philharmonic. Being with him was a time away from the challenges of his musical career. I enjoyed his humor and his intellect and his need for human contact that was not demanding or critical. We broke a lot of bread together at our house and at Le Poullailer.
Merveilleux, extraordinaire ! Mille mercis pour cela.
Bravo! An excellent documentary on a brilliant artist.
The original film on the DVD lasts 93 minutes, so it is much longer.
Thanks for this documentary about Boulez sadly now a largely forgotten figure i think.Young musicians i know don't know or understand his music and are looking elsewhere for good contemporary music both in classical and jazz music.Sad but true.
You think wrong. Boulez is far from forgotten.
The Mahler piece at 48:45 isn’t from Lieder eines Fahrenden Gesellen, it’s Des Antonius von Padua Fischpredigt (Saint Anthony’s Sermon to the Fish) from Des Knaben Wunderhorn.
A little-known petitesse: Boulez makes music with Lang Lang
in Salzburg, - hard to believe, but true, as the excerpt from the 2006 programme shows:
WOLFGANG A. MOZART Serenade für 12 Bläser und Kontrabass B-Dur KV 361 - „Gran Partita“
OLGA NEUWIRTH ...miramondo multiplo... für Trompete und Orchester
Uraufführung - Auftragswerk der Salzburger Festspiele
WOLFGANG A. MOZART Konzert für Klavier und Orchester G-Dur KV 453
INTERPRETEN
Pierre Boulez, Dirigent
Lang Lang, Klavier
Håkan Hardenberger, Trompete
Wiener Philharmoniker
46:38 “I had the good fortune to pee two or three times at his glasses” 😂

47.22 You would have thought that by now she would know the basics of beating time. It makes you wonder how and why some people get selected to take part in these types of events
but today he would have to say "absolutely WONDERFUL, FANTASTIC, YOU ARE THE GREATEST HUMAN BEING ALIVE AND PLEASE SAVE THE PLANET FOR US". Also, his joke would have gotten him CANCELLED FOR LIFE. Plus he would be ARRESTED for TOUCHING her arm. It is the planet of the WOKE.

I have double checked just to remind myself. She is pretty useless.
I prefer Morton Feldman.
wow thanks for the incredibly valuable information. As you can see, there is a poll next to the video asking people about their preferences. Do you like oranges? It is part of the poll.
I prefer your aunt
@@shivanjamal1375 I prefer your wife.
who cares about minor composers
Terrible documentary, tries to portray Boulez as a radical-composer, yet the whole documentary is filled with him conducting and talking about everything but his own works (a better title, how to appreciate and conduct Stravinsky, Berio, and Mahler) Says something about the true nature of his musical endeavors…
That is because literally noone wants to listen to his music
@@AndreyRubtsovRU Uneducated people with taste limitations don't want to listen to his music you're right
@@Alix777. Tale as old as time: when unable to provide counter-arguments attack the messenger, not the message.
Il savait au moins diriger un orchestre. Parce que pour le reste... Aie aie aie.
My niece asked me what kind of music robots, machines and automatons would make. I told her to listen to Boulez. She did and she said it was like elevator music for a crash dummy factory.
You've left the same inane comment in several videos about Boulez. 😐
Not you again
your niece is a little dumb girl
Ironic way to end a documentary about Pierre Boulez with... Mozart!
We knew he would sell his dodecaphonic soul to the tonal devil.
