What a great interview! Normally, I get bored with these things but I sat spellbound. So many great questions and answers. I discovered Morgan James through PMJ - first time I saw her was 'All About That Bass' - and what a great talent she is, and how hard she works to acquire such a great voice, technique and presence/stage craft. I know nothing about singing - except what I like and dislike, of course - but I learned a lot more from this interview. Thank you.
Hi Elizabeth, Thank You for having this interview w/ Morgan James and I'm very Honored and Thankful that you asked her my question(s). Elizabeth, You Are without a doubt, "THE BEST!!!" ❤ ❤ ❤
Great interview. Morgan is so "real" and having one of my favorite reactor's interview her made my day. I am retired and have always loved all music but since the Pandemic and the reactions from your community have trained my ears just enough to appreciate it a thousand times more.
There aren't very many 1-hour plus interviews that would get me to watch the whole interview, but this was one. I'd love to see you interview Haley Reinhart and also Scott Bradlee. Morgan James is fantastic!
Love love when you interview singers! As I listened to Morgan, I began to wonder Elizabeth, whether you miss singing as much as you used to when you traveled. I recognize that You probably sing more than I know.
This was a great interview. Two extremely talented artists having a conversation. My personal favorite online performance is the duet with Morgan James and Marc ;Broussard "Do Right Women, Do Right Man"
58:17 The Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis, YES! My wife and I drove from Sioux Falls to Minneapolis twice to see Morgan perform at the Dakota. It's hard to believe a concert could be any more intimate. The first time we were seated two tables away at the side of the stage. The second time we were in a front row table (I could actually touch the stage) with Doug directly in front of us. Morgan was singing a song and noticed me wearing her Reckless Abandon Tshirt and pointed at me. Later, between songs, she thanked me for that. My wife later laughed at me because she said I suddenly turned into a shy two-year-old. I was 61 at the time. 😁 We promised to go back every time Morgan plays there and are hoping she'll come to Sioux Falls again. Thanks so much for this very interesting interview, Elizabeth. I enjoyed listening to both of you immensely.
So wonderful! Thank you both for this!!! My all-time favorite collaboration is We Are The World. Ugh! Oh yeah! I'd love a new one to combat future pandemics and the current devicive political scene. Bring everyone together. Bring back humanity. Stop the politics. Stop the wars. Bring down the boarders. Listen to the children. Bring back love... Let's start this movement! Plant the seeds of humanity and love. Do it for the children 💘 ✌😳👍💞💞💞💞💞
Recently discovered Morgan - and have been blown away by so many of her performances - besides having an utterly gorgeous sound, she is a wildly talented artist and has an amazing level of knowledge and control over her instrument. (What a great story re her Juilliard waitlist..😂)
Loved the interview with Morgan James. I have been a big fan of her career for years now. Would love to see you interview Haley Reinhart someday. As her career has been a pretty interesting one as well.
still loving this...the discussion about that grind.. that long, long day... was needed for us snotty pedestrians... because i am... im the guy who doesnt understand why a show starts 2 hours late....Peace. Love. Smiles. ... i came back a year later because this channel is woven into my life's fabric.*edit/// i think that is pretty awesome/// *
Morgan and Elizabeth, Enjoyed watching the interview. It is very revealing to know what struggles artist must go through to be accepted. thanks for sharing. Paul Kruger
I watched Sledgehammer before I hopped o.n this video. And she has the most calm talking voice I ever heard. And I was shook. Thank you for introducing her. I'm such a huge fan! 🙏
Thank you so much for this podcast, I adore Morgan James and have always wondered about her life. She is such a force to contend with. I wish everything she strives for, I will be there.
People tend to overuse the word "underrated" in a totally wrong way nowadays. She is NOT underrated in any way, by no one. Everyone rates her very high. She is just not a world music star, but that's not a synonym of underrating. She is world known by people interested in music, which actually is already a great achievement. You know how many great, exceptional singers is on the world? There's probably hundreds, if not thousands in every big country. The fact that she's world recognizable speaks for itself. She achieved a lot. To become a star, she would need to sacrifice her life, she would have to had certain character to not break and to push forward, and be squeezed by corporations. And she would also need a ton of luck. Maybe that's not what she wants, maybe that's not what she cares about.
My guess is great talents like Morgan are not world wide talents because they chose to not sell their soul for fame. That’s fine by me, because we still get to enjoy her performances without the hype. She seems quite sweet and normal… this is good!
That was a great interview. I do no not know Morgan James but she's a great singer from what I just heared here and I like her music really much so far so that is something to discover for me this weekend 👍
I've loved Morgan since first stumbling onto her covering If You Don't Know Me By Now, and then again later with PMJ. She is a true talent, and I love her even more since she mentioned my favorite, Joni Mitchell. Great interview.
I knew Elizabeth from swing dancing in Seattle and dancing together, and have loved Morgan James from the first time I heard her in a collab with PostModern Jukebox. I try and follow whenever Morgan puts out new stuff, and love her incredible voice!

About the guitars... I get it. I play guitar myself, and each guitar has a different voice, a different character and feel to it. From large difference in size, electronics, or form, to smaller ones, shifting guitars can help you produce a vastly different sound thanks to a different impression and feel you have. Closest comparison I can find is that switching guitars is like switching dance partners (sorry if it sounds corny). You get a different feel, and thus also modify your own technique according to it. Hope this helps all those, who wonder, why guitarists have this habit of starting to collect guitars :) And since it is almost too obvious to mention - but still bears mentioning: I am incredibly thankful for her moving music and all the effort, she has put into her art, work, and voice. It more than shows and I look forward to hearing more!
What I most loved about the video of Call My Name is that it exposes the fact that Morgan has a great set of freckles which she seems to hide most of the time. Is that what she's hiding under those bangs? Nice chat you two.
Honestly, I'd rather listen to Morgan than anyone on the scene at the moment, regardless of what she is singing. Here voice is exquisite and her commitment to the song is always evident. Recently stumbled into the reaction videos world, and I am discovering so much wonderful music -- although my productivity of late is at an all-time low. As a Detroit native and HUGE Motown fan, I would love to hear Morgan James recreate Marvin Gaye's What's Going On or Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life. First of all, I am so glad that we had this interview, as it very insightful look at the perspective of Morgan about music in general, her journey and what drives her to move forward, which fortunately for us is just making good music. Personally, I got to know her voice very randomly, through PMJ on a working day, a couple of years ago, and was immediately hooked, the first song I heard. For days I literally could not have enough of her performances. After listening her perform a vast variety of music, I honestly believe, she is one of the best singers in the world right now and it is vastly underrated, which is kind of sad, because she honestly deserves much more recognition and has all the tools that should have made her a megastar. The good thing is, that she basically has the vision, that instead of waiting for a big break, that may not happen not because of her, she just keeps making good music, which is the essence of it all. She does not seem bitter, but very down to earth and authentic, which is one more reason to like her a lot. On a related note, I believe I have already said that in a comment before, but "Dear Prudence" cover that Haley and herself did would be a great addition to the channel.
