This helps so much! I had my fiance watch this video until he fully understood. And he watched it while massaging me. I had scoliosis and had surgery when I was 13. Now at 36 I have a whole range of issues. And suffer from sciatic nerve pain daily. Gabapentin Is a staple in my medicine cabinet and it helps. But not nearly enough. I got injections in my SI joint and I get injections in my piriformis injections and even then I still get pain. I have compression where the nerve root exits. But also have compression in my piriformis due to the really tight muscles. I take muscle relaxers but even those only help so much. Anyway. I had him watch this and do this to me. And I feel a lot better. Still have pain because I do have the compression at the nerve root exit but there is some relief that came from this. I assume that it is so bad due to my hips being way out of alignment. I have a 2½" drop on the right side. And I'm a bit rotated as well. So I'm sure that's why I've got the issues that I do. But thank you so much for this video. Because while I still have a lot of pain it is still lessened enough to notice. :)

Stretch it. Sit on a chair. Whatever side the pain is on, cross that leg so that that ankle is over the other leg’s thigh. Then, slowly lean forward making sure you keep your back straight. Just hold the stretch for about 5-10 seconds and do that 3-4 times. Repeat that 3-4 times per day. Also, try taking baths with Epsom salt. Use 2-3 cups. The magnesium helps relax the muscles. And lastly, if you have an office job, get up frequently so you keep your circulation going.

Did you know trigger points are areas of pain that refer to other parts of the body?
The therapist will use compressions, intuition, and knowledge of the body as well as pressure to identify a trigger point. Upon their findings they will use finger or thumb pressure to press down on the point anywhere from 30 seconds to five minutes, or until they feel the point release. You can expect some discomfort with this therapy but long-term major pain relief and improved range of motion prior to treatment.

Hi Allison, you are awesome! I love your videos. I do alot of hip work concentration on piriformis muscle, using similar techniques (but you make it look so much easier) I am always looking for new ways to work this area. I see so many clients with this sciatic problem, and it makes me feel good when I know I can help them, and when they walk out practically pain free. They don't even have to tell me, I can tell by watching them walk that their pain is lessened or gone. Then they come back a few weeks later, they say "I don't know what you did last time, but please do it again.. " makes me feel so good knowing I was able to help them...

  • @ThatBlackPiano

I have chronic piriformis syndrome and watching this just makes my butt hurt! 😅I’ve been disabled by this syndrome when it was paired w/ a “tightening/shortening” of my psoas muscle so I could only walk about 8 steps then my leg would go numb and feel ice cold. I’ve been in and out of chiropractic, physical, and massage therapy now for my condition for the past i years. 1 year of this therapy allowed me to walk again and another year of additional therapy I was finally pain free for the massages! Physical and massage therapists are a total godsend. They are so patient and put up w/ so much whining, especially from the likes of me. Every touch hurt ALL OVER to the point that both believe I may even have a form of fibromyalgia. I’m just great full I can walk and that a majority of the pain during therapy is gone! She’s not my therapist, but I’d just like to say, “THANK YOU for what you do!”😁

Lay on your back in bed, raise your knees and have your feet flat on the bed. Take a frozen water bottle and place it under whichever cheek hurts and is tense and cross that leg and rest it on the other raised knee so you can get good leverage and downforce. slowly but forcefully put your weight into it and rock back and forth to help release any tension you may have. Plus the ice helps reduce any inflammation if any.

Yes it certainly can.The anatomy of the piriformis varies greatly from person to person, some people's piriformis being in a tricky position to the sciatic nerve ,which can be very close to the surface and very vulnerable to pressure

I just stumbled upon your video and it would be wonderful to get a massage like that often. I suffer from sciatica mainly on my left side and do stretches everyday.

I looooovvee trigger point work! Thank you for these techniques. I am still learning my flow when it comes to trigger points as I don’t want the client to feel like it’s too “poky” so having these target spots along with the techniques is hugely helpful. Thank you!

When doing this technique, are you considering piriformis anomalies? Or are you addressing piriformis syndrome as... Ummm... We are to assume the muscle forms normally?... Sorry couldn't think of a better way to ask this question quickly.
