From an Italian living this situation
It's done in a very "panic like" way though. Especially, the ADD way of filming it which= panic and fear. There's a lot of misinformation or some these experts telling you one thing are wrong. I've heard from a coronavirus expert that the masks will not stop the virus from spreading, then some others say the mask will help? Too many opposing professionals for me to believe there isn't a white rabbit somewhere to follow... with that said I'm still playing it safe.

@@shanewaldron2971 If the stock of mask in your country is limited, the experts there will tell you that it won't stop virus from spreading, that only the sick need to use mask. If the country have enough supply of mask or the industry in the country can produce enough, the experts there will encourage everyone to use mask. Sometime it feel that in preventing panic, some governments actually sacrifice safety.

Italy is a beautiful country with an incredible history and cultural legacy that has enriched the world. Italians have great courage and spirit and they will survive this crisis. I hope to visit there when this has passed.

The most striking moment was when the guy said - young kids were intubated by this. So we can't take anything for granted.

The hospitals in my area, (Washington State) are running dangerously low on face masks and nurses are in the midst of battling a tougher than average flu season. If the nurses get sick, everyone gets sick. Don’t hoard masks. Nurses need them more

Ask yourself why the mainstream media has elected to completely and totally avoid talking to scientists about viral seasonality and the nature of why endemic viral borne illnesses are seasonal. it is not a death message .. it is an awareness message .. because we are aware that governments care more about the economy than life .. @@zebedeerotten533 They do work. If you cough or sneeze, the mask can catch those respiratory droplets so they don't land on other people or surfaces so you can protect others. If people around you are wearing masks and the same thing happens, they're going to protect you.

For anyone questioning... Italy DID NOT act too late: it was one of the first countries to stop flights to and from certain areas and to declare the state of emergency at the end of January, when there was still no case in Italy. They acted since the very beginning swiftly and in FULL transparency (unlike many other countries) and people immediately started to follow the warnings given by the government.
Moreover, it was the second country to isolate the first strain of the virus in order to analyse it, thanks to the work of scientists in the Institute of Spallanzani and then another institute in Milan, but still there are people thinking that Italians didn’t do their best to fight against it.
Unfortunately the numbers have increased, probably due to the median age of the population and because they are taking many more Coronavirus test swabs than any other countries; so it is very much likely that other States have a larger number of infected people than that shown in statistics. They just don’t know it ‘cause they are not being tested.
Anyways, thanks to our example, and the previous one from China, other countries have finally decided to take more serious measures, which is something Italy has been doing during all this weeks...
So, please, let’s all stop criticising and start doing our best to defeat the virus.

The Italian government had placed a nationwide quarantine on 9th March.
By then, there were 9,172 confirmed cases and 463 deaths from COVID-19.
They were late.
sodori @yume mori sodori with all due respect but Quarantine was already ongoing since 15 days in 11 provinces of Lombardy where the outbreak was evident. For further precautionary measures they decided to isolate the whole country on the 9th even if there were no sign of an heavy outbreak in the rest of Italy.
Italy did the best they could keeping in mind we are a democracy not a dictatorship like China! Many people at that time disbelieved the seriousness of the matter and it was impossible to declare a lockdown , it would have caused popular uprisings difficult to control ( again we are not in China where they shoot you or imprison you if you disobey)

I'm so grateful for all of the warnings that I'm beginning to hear from Italian citizens, trying to prevent the US and other countries who are in the early stages of the pandemic from experiencing what they're going through. It means a lot that folks I don't know and probably never will know would take the time to post warnings on various social media when they don't have to do it. I sympathize with all who have been affected by this menace and pray for healing and recovery. Even though the company I work for is still open and expects us to be there, I go to work and come straight home, unless I need supplies. I for one will heed the warnings from Italy; your time and effort is not in vain. THANK YOU.

@A Baller Young people might not be dying, but they are certainly in SIGNIFICANT numbers to require intensive care hospitalisation (more than any kind of respiratory viruses that we have seen before), intubation and prolonged mechanical ventilation (and yes, statistically some might die...). They are in vast majority saved by aggressive care, but some may remain with sequelae from such an aggressive phenotype of the disease. Also, younger people remain an important vector of transmission and put at risk vulnerables from contracting the virus.
@A Baller The isolation is not easy for anyone. No one said it was something easy, happy... The sense of anxiety, solitude, depression. Burn-outs in health care, increase in suicide rates, drug/alcohol abuse, the trauma and scars it can leave. But accepting that 1000s of people will die is also not a reasonable option. Maybe it is a time to revamp the way economies work. Maybe it is a time to reduce the feeling that individuals have of entitlement, of thinking that their life and their comfort is more important than the one of their neighbours. Maybe wealth, support should be distributed more equally... Maybe that would help the economy survive, and allow for people to not all go crazy. I am not a politician... and I will not pretend I know what is right or wrong (if there is such a thing - subjective concept), but I do think that seeing 1000s of people from my communities, my family, my friends... no matter their age... is also not acceptable (but that's my values) :) So I accept and I stay home, work on myself.

I'm from Korea and I pity the western people who don't get how seriouse this is. We Koreans are extremely sensitive to epidemic bc we get them every 5 years or so(SARS, Avian Flu, MERS). Even so we still had 8000 patients and 100 deaths. Please be aware covid 19 is nothing like we had before.

We're getting there. Restaurants, bars, museums, cinemas, etc, are now closing in big cities. Probably should have done it last week, but as the youngsters of the world, we have a tendency to think nothing bad will happen to us. And our "Great Leader" isn't exactly helping 😒
Yes its been taken very seriously here in california people arr stock piling food and cleaning products. The mayor ordered, all resturants are closed and that hotels and empty properties are taken over by the city to house the infected when it comes and also the homeless to keep them safe, schools are closed for the next month, themeparks like disneyland, public library's museums. Store hours are being limited. even doctors office are canceled this week to test docs for the the virus. There honestly isnt much goverment official can do except to prepare for when the infection spreads and contain it but also the citizens have to do their part. Some people think its a joke. But it also affects people working cause they cant get paid if they are not allowed to work how does that affect peoples bills and money for food

I'm in New Zealand, and my parents live in The Netherlands. Several weeks ago, I nagged my parents everyday to go out and get supplies, as they are both at high risk. They recently told me that they are glad they listened to me. Covid 19 is as bad, a lot of people understand how bad it is, it is the people that are underplaying this virus that put other people at risk.

JR Dee politicians are the worst part. We as an individual people can do only a limited amount given we all have financial burden and other physical needs and can’t just quarantine for 14 days for no reason while rest of society and president/PMs are like “this is no big deal.” Because our governments didn’t take it seriously, and didn’t force us to take it seriously, we are all in this mess.

I’m also all about financial literacy to make sure people are prepared not just for this coronavirus but for every other emergency or disaster. This really got me in a way nothing else has so far. I guess the severity of whole situation just hadn't really sunk in yet. But here's an entire country of people forced to put their lives on hold, indefinitely. Everything stops. No working, no socialising, no traveling, no going out to eat, or going to school, or anything else that you'd need to leave the house for. Society as a whole has come to a screeching halt. Crazy.
But still we sang together from our balconies. I'd never thought we would be capable of such empathy. Surprise the others with kindness. It's never a waste of time. Please, stay strong together, even if we are apart now. Let's stay strong.
