We definitely need to get ourselves down to Cornwall! Really liked the black and white image from Sandymouth and the pebbles at Godrevy point, I really need to try taking some more closeups myself! Great guide Julian, thanks for uploading! Sam.
Thanks Sam, it really is an awesome part of the country for landscape photography. So many great locations...so many that I'll probably have to do a volume 2 of this video! I'm not great at close ups, but I'd given myself a bit of extra time at the location so I was open to trying a few different things. I've got your latest video on my Watch Later list, so looking forward to seeing what you've been up to in Scotland. :-)
@@jbairdexp Thanks Julian! We had a bit of a mixed bag up there, some successes and a few fails but it was a great trip anyway and we have a few more videos to come as well! Hannah has a much better eye than me for the closeups, I always overlook them!
Thankyou for sharing that excellent and very informative vlog Julian..Some great locations to try out, which is exactly what you need when coming from afar.
Well presented vlog as always Julian. I've been to Godrevy and Wheal Coates and both are stunning locations. I really liked your shots of the engine house with all that color. Early last summer I visited Kynance Cove and was blown away by the beauty of the place. Have you ever been there? A talented photographer like you would love it. Heading off to your blog to get that bonus video. Cheers, Jeff.
Thanks so much Jeff. I have indeed been to Kynance Cove and agree it is stunning. I was there with the family so didn't get a chance to take any photos, but it's definately on my radar to visit again (with the camera this time). Cheers :-)
Great vlog, well presented and very enjoyable to watch. Great pics, and nice to see your choice of locations. I love the Cornish mines and visited Wheal Coates for the first time this year, Godrevy is another favourite. I’m intrigued to see what your fourth location is so off to find that no. Thanks for the inspiration
Thanks Gary, glad you liked it and I hope you enjoyed the 4th location....it was another windy one! There are so many great locations I might have to do a volume 2 next year. :-)
Beautiful photographs Julian, a wonderful video and in my favourite part of the world. I was recently literally down the road from Sandymouth the other day but didn’t stop in. We went to Botallack where they had been filming for Poldark. That aside, I hope I managed to bag some good shots, we’ll see when I get time to edit. Thanks buddy, always a pleasure
Thanks Tony, always great to see a comment from yourself. Cornwall is such a great place to photograph and Botallack is a location that I really need to visit again soon. Hope you got some great images :-)
Great video Julian, Cornwall has so many beautiful locations. I was down at Godrevy point in May, I was a bit more lucky with the weather, lots of great sunrises and sunsets. Thanks so much for sharing. I will try your other locations next time I'm down. More Cornwall blogs would be great. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Mark, Cornwall is such a great location for photography. Great to hear that you had better luck with the weather than I did. That place is magical when the light is good. Plenty more locations in Cornwall to blogs on. :-)
Kynance cove is great for a sunset. Sennen cove is also a great location if you walk along the coastal path towards lands end. I think there is a ship wreck down on a beach. Not sure if you can get down to it though. 👍
Thanks Christian, great to see a comment from yourself. Cornwall is great isn't it...we are very lucky to live so close to so many great locations. :-)
Great job mate....same as Chris them patterns in the sand at sandymouth! Love that beach! Wheal Coates is on my immediate list! Really liked your shots!
Hi Julian, great video blog as usual. I just love the coasts of eastern Cornwall and Godrevy is probably one of my favourites. We're staying at our friends chalet in Hayle in a couple of weeks time so I hope to get out and about with my camera. I'm sure that there are many but I thought I'd offer a pronunciation of Godrevy. I think Glen Sumner, below, got pretty close but I'd like to offer that there isn't so much emphasis on the God as in God-Reevee but Gu-Dreevee. My father-in-law, a certain Mr Trevithick, who originated from Camborne just a few miles away from Gwithian, assures me of this. I'm not going to be one to argue with him... LOL. I'm over to you website now to catch your bonus location. All the best.
Cheers Philip, always great to see a comment from yourself Thanks for the tips on the pronunciation...there seems to be a bit of a variation on the correct way, so I don't feel too bad about my own pronunciation. Hope you enjoyed the bonus location! All the best. :-)
I loved the shots from Sandymouth Beach, so simple. You really made the most out of the patterns in the sand. Cornwall is a great place to for us landscape photographers but I have only just scratched the surface. One of my favourite locations to shoot is the coast line around Kingsand/Cawsand and Rame Head just over the water from Plymouth. I have also spent a few happy hours wandering around the gardens at Mount Edgcumbe; there are a few interesting follies to photograph which come in handy when the weather isn't playing ball.
Thanks mate, glad you liked them. Sandymouth is a wee gem of a place. :-) That south area of Cornwall just pass Plymouth is an area that I've long overlooked...maybe you'll need to educate me one day :-)
Welcome back, wasn't sure if you quit UA-cam. I have taken a little break myself a little reset, getting back into it now. Great locations and photos, makes me want to go there even more now :) Cheers
Thanks mate. It may have looked like I was taking a break, but I was committing all my time to creating this video. There's a total of 4 locations, well 5 if you include the intro and outro, so that's 5 weeks worth of vlogs right there! And you know yourself how much time these things take, even for one location. Just glad to have finally got this video out into the world. :-) Always great to see a comment from yourself and looking forward to seeing you back on the air soon. :-)
Hi Julian, I love this part of the world and don't get there enough. To the likes of me, living many many miles away as I do, there appears to be a lifetime of stunning wild coastal locations photograph. Out of the three locations you show us here, I have visited one, Wheal Coates where I once led a group on a field trip from Slapton Ley in Devon. The weather was typically miserable but it was still a great place to see in the flesh. What a stunning backdrop. Great images throughout!
Thanks Simon, and always great to see a comment from you. Even living as close as I do, I also think there is a lifetime of locations in Cornwall....and that's just the coastline! :-)
Loved my trip to Cornwall in the Summer, and managed to visit some lovely locations on the north Cornwall coast, including taken some shots where you were standing at Boscastle. Hartland Quay was a great location, for coastal work as well as nearby St Catherines Tor. Really nice images captured at each location, but my favourite was at 15:11 👍
Thanks Jamie, always great to hear from you. Hartland Quay is a location I need to visit and shoot again, so good shout on that one. That image at 15:11 is probably my favourite as well. :-)
You picked and presented great locations, bet it give to many photographers great idea of the spots just checking the drone footage..... very inspiring, very nice way done, maybe one day will visit your “neck in the woods “.....thank you Verdon!
Hey Julian, super video as always, really enjoyed it. We always call it Godrevy Point as in Godreeeevy but could be wrong. Would love to see your interpretation of the Crown engine houses at the Botallack Tin Mines down near Lands End. A popular location to shoot but I would love to see what you would make of it. Thanks for the video.
Cheers Andy, I really appreciate your comment. Someone on the blog mentioned Botallack as well. It's been a few years since I've been there, so long overdue another visit! :-)
Great video Julian and perfect timing, I am in Cornwall next week for a week's photography (and time with the wife apparently!!), Godrevy Point is going to be about 15 minutes from our cottage so your video couldn't have come at a better time. Don't want to spend ages in the car whilst in Cornwall so will focus photography trips to that far end of the county. The bonus location is going to be worth a look, it appears nice and dramatic. Thoroughly enjoy your video's keep them coming, thank you.
Martin, thanks so much for watching (and for taking the time to watch the 4th location as well), and I hope you enjoy your visit to Cornwall. If you are that close to Godrevy, I suspect you might visit it more than once. I hope you get some good conditions for your photography. Thanks for your support. :-)
Love the video and your usual fantastic energy, Julian. I'm pretty sure it's pronounced guh-dreevy. I have friends who live in Falmouth and sometimes go surfing there, so I remember the name.
Hi Julian, I really enjoy your films. I have the same camera as you and enjoy taking the same sorts of photos (but not as well as you). Keep up the good work!
Thanks Paul, that's great to hear! I do sometimes wonder why I spend so much time travelling and creating videos, and then I get comments like this. Really appreciate it :-)
Hi Julian. You've delivered another great innovative video here - love it !! You gave yourself a tough choice given how many great locations you have in that part of the world. Your images are all fabulous - love the detail that you get in your compositions. How on earth did you get sharp images at Wheale Coates with the wind moving your tripod around? I always find shooting in heather a real challenge as its so springy ! Great to see you referencing Adam Burton's fotoVUE guide - it's going to be my bible when I get down there next year. Regarding your request for shoots from other locations, I'd love to see you do something from Kynance Cove as it's on my to-do list. Really enjoyed this cracking video Julian. Many thanks for sharing.
Cheers Tim, great to here you got so much from the video. Yes, it was a tough choice to pick just 3 locations. There's so many more that I might just have to do a volume 2 next year! I've visited Kynance Cove with the family and it looks like a great spot for photography so I might just have to do a video there. Also, great to see that you've read all the way down the video description and spotted Adam's book....I always wondered how much of the video description people read! lol My top tip for getting sharp shots in windy conditions is to block the wind with your body as best you can....doesn't work if it's coming straight at your camera though! Thanks again for watching and your continued support. :-)
Hi Julian-My favourite part of the world although like many living hundreds of miles away its difficult to get down as often as one would like. I'd love to see someone vlog and photograph St Just and Porth Nanven both great locations. I also feel that Bodmin Moor is too often overlooked as a photographers location. To finish, the Penwith Heritage Coast has some stunning rugged locations.
Thanks Michael. Porth Nanven is definately on my list to make a video. I've been there a couple of times and it's a magical place for photography so will need to return there. Good shout on those other locations, especially Bodmin Moor, which as you say is often overlooked. :-)
great stuff Julian one day I will get back to Cornwall:) Godrevy is pronounced God-reevee with a long e sound in the middle but nice try! Better than all the Scottish names Ive wrecked when there!
Just a friendly advise....don't hide the like-dislike count. Some people (like me) are based on that before they click the play button on 19 minutes video. I sometimes subscribe just for that and give a second chance to see another video even if one specific i found it not so interest. My best regards
