    This song was written by my great great great grandfather Sopoaga Anetera ( Andrew ) Lauvi. He was a faifeau in Vaovai. He wrote this song in tribute to a boy from the village who fell from a palm tree. They shipped him to the hospital but he didn't make it. My great papa wrote this song on their walk back to Vaovai. Missionaries from Fiji came to Samoa and this song was already well known. They took this tune and there it birthed their farewell song 'Isa Lei'. But the origin of this song and tune is from Samoa...from my great x3 pops Sopoaga Lauvi. In its original lyrics known by my grandma Italia Pula Samuelu from Salepouae Saleimoa Samoa the boys name is in there..his name was 'Taisali'. This is a samoan song, birthed from Vaovai Samoa!

      man that is some good history.. Sad Fiji claimed the tune and we have no document of proof to prove that this tune belongs to us (SAMOA).. oh well sharing is caring lol..

      My grandma has the original musical notes composed by her grandfather, as the singer says..Fiji sings this acapella without composed notes, because the tune is all they have. It's ok that Fiji uses the same tune, its origin and it's history will always be treasured.

      The tune does not sound like a Tongan tune though. It's more aligned with Samoan tunes. Tongan and Fijians have similar tunes.

    • @koolay2247
      @koolay2247 3 роки тому

      @@zigydafa click on the link above you, it'll tell you how old this song is before it was adopted by the Fijians. It was composed in 1915 by Tu'ivakanō one of the Tongan Noble. I'm pretty sure the Samoan and the Fijian never heard this tune till the 50's and the 60's.
