At 52 years old, I just rode my very first and second full reining pattern at an AQHA horse show this weekend. I used one of my lesson horses that is a 20year old retired working cow horse, and had never even practiced a full pattern before on her before the show. I usually just pop on her to demonstrate to my students how to learn and perform maneuvers, or to tune her up after too many 6-12 year old beginners ride her. My older teenage students challenged me to ride her, since they were all at their first horse show, and they wanted to see me do something at the show for the first time. My goal going in was to just stay on pattern and not completely stink at it! I scored a 67 and a 68 in the AQHA open reining. It was so fun, that now I may have gotten bitten by the reining bug. I just think I need Matt’s help, but then again being a 52 year old woman, who is a low level riding instructor, I doubt that would ever happen. 😂😂😂
I doubt you will see this….. but, I want you to know I look up to you. I don’t mean I just look up to you. You help me motivate myself to keep trying, you help me know it’s ok to fail, you give me more confidence, and you make me smile. The work you do with your horses is insane I can tell you have a great bond with all of them🫶🏼your truly amazing and have a beautiful gift and I hope someday I can get to your level 😊you may not know the impact you have on us youth as well! You have helped me through years and years of training and showing can’t wait to see how far you go in 2024!❤
I’m humbled by your kind words. It’s always about the process, put the work in and the results will come in time. Let’s both get after it in 2024! 💪🏾〽️
Hello, I am not sure if I mentioned this before. I can tell you 10000% that your equation it top notch. Which allows your horses ability to shine. If I remember correctly, I think you talked about your Mom & You showing horses. If you want to be the best, you must be at your best. HIGH GRADE!!!!
@@mattmillsreining1 They are spikes that are going into the horses stomach. They are used to move the horse fowrd, and that horse is going forward. No wonder the wear spurs in most western disciplines!
❤

Friggin awesome! Love a reiner, love a cutter! Love me some quarter horses!
How amazing are these horses! Quick question, do you have to have a pure bred Quarter horse for the these moves?
Beautiful ❤️
Damm!! That is talent for sure. I don't know how you can make your horses stop like that and that they put their head down so nice😍👂🏼
Who is that horse? The last stop in the video? Wow!!!!!!!!!❤

I have been on the back of horse since I was born. To be in same arena with you would be amazing
Good skills. I don't see joy in the horse's eyes, actually.
Look at those spurs in the last clip. So sad 😢🥺
Yep! I sure do have them on! Does my horse look sad? They are tools. How they are used is what’s important
