I agree with this approach and what's said...I am not speaking next coming from a predetermined outcome...Scientist working for humanity of top quality not found at universities or on mainstream news essentially are with massive evidence painting a picture of total destruction in the next 20 years...I suggest reviewing Suspicious Observers disaster playlist....That said I can add serveral more they won't speak about as they have been deemed by our planetary human overloards Verbotten...One possibly starting as early as the end of this year or latest next Spring....

I would reply but I would hate for you to think I was just being a victim of my genetic determination. That is, I have yet to receive the diploma or gold star or whatever you get once you are enlightened from all those others who have achieved that state. I presume there's a little ceremony of sorts. Nothing too fancy. Maybe a plague. Oh, I misspelled "plaque" quite by accident. Funny, though. I like your nonsensical videos the most. Hones my focus. And a honed focus is a great thing to have. (True) Religion and (True) Science can't contradict each other. The "HelioCentric" "GeoMobile" "TerraGloba", "evolution", "dinosaurs", "solar system", "gravity", "planets", "outer space", "galaxies", "aliens", ""alien" invasions", ""alien" abductions", etc. are part of a Pythagorean apocatastasist "esotericist" occultic pseudomathematical pseudoscientific pseudoreligion masquerading "as" science and mathematics. Nicolas Copernicus, Galileo Galilei, Johannes Kepler, and Isaac NewTon were Masons. "NASA" "Space" X, etc. are Masonic cults. I've played PlayStation2 video games with more realistic graphics than their CGIs.

This is such a powerful eye opener for humanity. How long can we sustain this planet staying on the course we are now on??? Some scientists don't give us even another 50 years. As the indigenous people spoke of the generations to come as a guide to how we live now. Even simply recycling helps. Ask how badly you need new clothes. Try to cut back on eating meat every day. I have volunteered for 7 years in a nonprofit thrift store and the amount of donations we receive is mind blowing and this is in a very small town in North Carolina. Imagine all the stuff we consume. I agree with Lipton in that there is still hope for mankind to wake up for our future generations.

The parallel between ancient religions and “infallible truth” reminds me of how we are treating science today. And then I am reminded that Scientism and Science are not one and the same. And that Scientism has been deployed for the same purposes and to absorb and replace the -religious/spiritual controls. Because it comes down to Carl Jung really, and the subconscious mind. And how we work within a framework that never escapes the format of the myth. And now science can replace god to keep the myth going to keep minds limited and controlled and separate from the internal divine.

Great talk, and a goal truly worth pursuing. But I can't say the arguments themselves make much sense to me:
    1) "The universe is made of matter. Newtonian physics separates matter and energy". What?? Newtonian physics does no such thing. It merely states that dynamics of matter can be thought of conversion between different types of energy, such as potential energy is converted to kinetic when an apple accelerates falling down the tree. Energy and matter are inseparable already in Newtonian physics. What 20th century physics adds to this conversation is that matter can be converted to energy and back in chunks of certain size under certain quantum circumstances. Then he proceeds to equate energy to spirituality like consciousness and soul etc. Science currently makes no statement about consciousness and soul. There have been many attempts over the years, but anybody familiar with the philosophy of science will tell you that currently science has conducted zero experiments that could discriminate between philosophical interpretations of consciousness and soul, such as materialism, dualism, emergence, parallel lives, etc. And no, quantum mechanics does not save the argument either. There are at least 20 different interpretations of QM listed on wikipedia, encompassing all sorts of philosophical arguments.
    2) "Genes control our biology". Yes they do. For example, there are tons of scientifically documented genetic illnesses, where the very presence of some gene is the main predictor of the illness. Can the author change the color of their eyes from blue to brown and back by leading a different life style. I don't think so. The statement about epigenetics is completely correct - our lifestyle has been shown to control gene expression in a non-trivial way, and while the mechanisms are not yet well understood, they definitely matter a lot. They have even been shown to be heritable - check out epigenetic inheritance if you are interested. Still, not sure how does one use this information to conclude that we have a choice. What is true for sure is that our actions have impact on our lives. But whether there exists willpower that can convert choices into actions, or whether we are biological robots with deterministic/chaotic behaviour remains to be verified.
Not an expert on the other two points, so I will withhold of extensive criticism, but I can't say I understood exactly what is the difference between survival of the fittest and adaptation, nor do I understand why are we meant to cooperate and not compete. If a pray is actually cooperating with a predator, I would like to be explained why in better detail. Again, not claiming it is not the case, just that the presentation sadly is unconvincing

So many near-miss misunderstandings. It would take quite a while to unravel all the well intentioned, misguided delusions presented here. But you really only need to ask one question. What was civilization like before we had a concept of Newtonian physics, the influence of genes on human behavior, and competition as a component of natural selection? We were abusing our relationship with the planet and undermining our capacity for self-improvement long before we had any sort of scientific understanding of ourselves and our universe.

Most of her friends and coworkers believe this like a religious dogma. I think the most important thing to take away from this is that each one of us does control our own destiny. Just like with most speeches, some of what he says is absolutely spot on and some of it is taking some of his beliefs to an extreme. I don't claim to know enough to say whether his claims on the ability of us to change our genetics with our minds is correct or false, but I do know that if more people took ownership of their own situations their individual lives would be improved, and likely others around them would be as well. I am a little concerned that as a society we are replacing the dogma of religion with the dogma of science, but setting that aside, it's always a good thing to believe you can control your situation, regardless of the source of that belief.

Bruce, I enjoyed your presentation. However, I am more of a stoic philosopher. Most of life is outside of my control. I realize and accept that. It makes for a peaceful existence. I try to focus on the things that I DO control. I release concern for all the things that I do not control.
As far as having hope For humanity's future goes, I do not think about that. That is one of the things that is also out of my control. I control very few things. Whether or not those things have an effect on humanity as a whole, is debatable. I agree with the ancient philosophers who maintained that hope and fear are very empty things. Hope will set a person up for disappointment and frustration.
Fear simply creates anxiety and tension within. The only thing that I fear, is fear itself.
So, since we will all end up in the same place, in the end, nothing really matters.

  • @ultimummilitem685
    @ultimummilitem685 3 роки тому +51

He makes a good point but he isn’t quite correct about all of it.
    1) Genetics play a different role in determining outcomes for different characteristics. Intelligence isn’t very heritable (there is a correlation of 0.2 between genetic makeup and eventual intelligence at birth). Eye color is very heritable (0.8 at birth). Some genes have near perfect penetrance/expression.
    2) Not all epigenetic change is heritable so mutation and movement of genes is an important part of the genetic variation on which natural selection acts.
    3) The ability to adapt is incredibly limited, what separates humans from other animals is the ability and willingness to manipulate our environment.
    4) Nature works together but is incredibly violent on an individual level. Competition and violence were very common in early human civilizations and while the violence has been exported or isolated, competition is still very stiff.

I hate it when someone propagates the idea that people in the middle ages believed that the Earth was flat (2:15). They didn't, nor did the Church. Copernicus couldn't calculate much, based on his theory, which postulated that the planets moved in perfectly circular orbits. If you tried to navigate a ship, based on his model, you'd come to a bad end. Galileo's model was better, but even that wasn't as precise as the Ptolemaic (Geocentric) model. Of course, the current heliocentric model is both extremely accurate and well documented. Ptolemy was a Greek, living in the then formerly Greek and presently Roman province of Egypt. He didn't believe that the Earth was flat, but he certainly believed that it was the center of the Universe. The ancient Egyptians actually did believe that the Earth was flat, and certainly didn't believe that the Sun was the center of the Universe. However, the ancient Babylonians had better knowledge, and Ptolemy relied much on their observations.
I'm now 7 minutes in, and the clown is trying to claim that quantum physics is "the most valid science on the planet", when, in fact, it can't predict any events on the macro scale. In other words, it can't predict anything that will directly and physically affect us. The branch of physics that does this is Einsteinian relativity, which, in turn, can't predict events on the subatomic scale. Claiming that one of these is superior to the other is nonsense. Physicists are looking for a "Unified Theory", a single theory to integrate these two with each other; that would/will be a superior theory. There's one point on which quantum theory and Einsteinian relativity agrees, tough; both tell us that matter and energy are the same. So, that's not a particular trait of quantum theory. He then throws in claims that highly speculative and unsubstantiated hypotheses from theoretical physics are "new knowledge". They're not. They may become that, some day, but that day hasn't come.
This guy should either stick to his specific field, or shut the fuck up, because it's completely clear that he neither knows history nor physics, much less the history of physics.
Like I said, 7 minutes in, and everything uttered is either misinformation or platitudes. To say it with Popeye, "I can't stands it no more". I'll clearly go insane if I continue, so I'm tapping out.
