  • Got a note from a friend: "Just wanted to let you know I was watch the UA-cam video you uploaded today and the audio cuts out at 24:55." -...it cuts out the "end of the endgame" so the video is not complete. I did a new video of the entire game with emphasis on the part that lost the audio; this is the next video on the channel: • Super Instructive Ches... .
NM Dan Heisman reviews a super-instructive amateur chess game full of interesting missed variations. Among the key features are a few quiescence errors (a common cause of class-level mistakes 1200-1800) and critical endgame "missed" variations.

Thanks for watching! The next video reviews the first 39 moves & then has the "missing" audio for the endgame: ua-cam.com/video/Ms9tBWiuM8I/v-deo.html . If you liked today's video, check out another video which won the Chess Journalists of America award for Most Instructive Lesson in 2023: Chess: A Thought Process Overview ua-cam.com/video/1rZX3GiwMnk/v-deo.html.

Opening Tartakower play was on-point. But if you're going to play this, you have to know you're doing it with a strong/express preference to stay away from an endgame...as the doubled pawns aren't ideal (to say the least). In turn, that tells you that not only do you have to know the opening, you damn well better be informed on how to mate from typical situations that commonly arise after the opening. And man did White serve one up! There's three or four of these that you simply have to be booked up on. Otherwise playing the Tartakower is likely to give you spotty results. What ratings level were these guys?

After Kh1 at 12:26 Black might consider to play Qh2# 🙃

Very instructive game, but the audio goes off after 25 min or so. Loved the exchange sacrifice example, because it is one that is easy enough to calculate for players below 1400. I am probably around the level of these 2 players and endgames are so chaotic and fun for now because of all the mistakes haha. 😂

The audio seems to cut out around the 25-minute mark

Interestingly, in Reuben Fine's "The Middlegame in Chess," He considers exf6 as a serious strategic concession, because Black cannot create a passed pawn with his kingside majority. Chess thinking has changed since then!

I’m a total beginner (rating barely above 500 😅). But I enjoy your videos and book a lot! I’m impressed by many comments in your book (the worlds most instructive amateur game book). The insight often goes beyond chess.

The last part of this video does not have audio, I guess you muted because of the dog barking in the background 😅 Still interesting to see the move on the board though

Yes, if you play mostly slow games (30 5 or slower preferably) and pay attention to making safe moves and seeing if your opponent's moves are safe, your rating should rise above 500. See the video The 3 Show-Stoppers ua-cam.com/video/dR4nCBgsKHg/v-deo.html. And yes, The World's Most Instructive Amateur Game Book is one of my best! You might also enjoy Everyone's Second Chess Book and Back to Basics: Tactics (or Giannatos' book Everyone's First Chess Workbook).

Yes, two dogs. The noisier one is our new puppy Capa (named after Capablanca!), who just turned 6 months old. You can hear her barking at the painters in the background...
