ICPs txns are due to the fact that you have complete games and minecraft servers running fully onchain producing enormous amounts of activity and txn. This btw is something no other chain can do atm. its come a long way since 2020

A more appropriate comparison would have been between SOL and SEI after same days of launch as SEI is atm (142 days). This would put SEIs fast rise into perspective. An idea for a next video perhaps?
yeah 100%, how can you compare such a new chain to Sol ? current SEI is about 40 times less market cap than SOL, so i don' t see anything outrageously wrong with what s going on with Sei

A lot of hype surround SEI and I don't see that going away in 2024. In this market you want hype and the fact it's fundamentally moving very fast tells me it will reach very high prices this year.

Love the analysis but for L1s, other than speed, I think we should look at level of decentralization (number of nodes), and security of the chain for a more complete score.
Everyone totally asleep on FTM when it's Sonic testnet is very similar to Solana performance atm, with a massively more decentralized network, zero downtime ever and a lot more going for it. FTM could finally find it's true destiny soon. Nice to see Aptos mentioned, vastly better team than Sui or Sei imho, vastly. Especially vs Sei, those guys were absolutely awful to their og community and that says a lot to me. They literally farmed that community for over a year with endless tasks and rewarded them with less than 20 bucks. Absolutely awful. Will never take that chain seriously. Also as another person pointed out, there is a lot of other nuance to a lot of these numbers too such as Dot and cosmos being more chain hubs than chains themselves at this point, very good that you pointed out ICP's wildly inflated numbers I'd have never even known that. Lot of context to quite a bit of this still but understand it would be hard to including absolutely every nuance as well, definitely does affect some of these numbers though like FTM's testnet, ADA parallelization effect on TPS, Dot/Atom chain hubs & a lot more. Overall I'm sure you intended to be fair and it was a great video I'll say, very informative. Many however unfortunately are unlikely to be aware of a lot more context to some of the chains and judge purely based on certain numbers. Really enjoying your channel overall though I must say.

Hello James! As ever, I would love you to include the Elrond Network, aka. MultiversX, in your L1 conversation. TPS is as fast as any L1, and fees are nearly insignificant. Finality in seconds. PLEASE include this terrific L1 with market cap almost the same as Algorand, Aave, and Quant. Love your work!
I love your channel, really appreciate what you do. BUT, The theoretical MAX tps for some of the chains is WAY OFF what the devs say. Eg. ADA 10k+, FTM 450k, ETH 100k+ These are the claimed numbers once all the scaling tech is implemented. Why do your numbers reflect SOL max theoretical tps, but not the others, am curious?
Great analysis. But of course this data is as per the current state. It's like trying to value Tesla (or any other tech company) based on current data - and we know tech valuations are more forward looking based on 'potential' rather than current earnings/performance. Anyways I'm a big fan of James and my Sol bags are fully loaded, but the comment which got me interested in SEI was from crypto banter saying ETH Devs can easily move to SEI and avoid the layer 2 crap. I think there's something there! Let's see how this matures :)

SOL has a high theoretical speeds but what people "always miss" is that when SOL ever gets a little congested the whole network slows down or even crashes. So what's the point of saying it can have high and fast transaction if the network fails so much. Lol

Good analysis. One caveat is that as per your analysis, $SEI is the cheapest of all (per transaction), as well as it is the only EVM compatible so it may mean $SEI can get more ETH based dApps, or at least that's a valid hype reason :) So, I don't feel it will lag behind most of them on market cap, if security is half as good as $SOL . I am very optimistic on $SEI bull run pricing.
With respect, the data on Polkadot at .40 TPS does not match the publicly available info on the Polkadot wiki, which says 1000 TPS. Pretty wide spread there. Wondering where you sourced your data from on this one.

SUI def has one of the best blockchain architectures. Solana is great too. Also, think you mixed up max tps for solana and sui? Sui has the highest max tps out of any current chain
The theoretical max TPS numbers dont match between the charts... solana ln first chart shows 300k and on third chart its 600k. Same with SUI and others
Take a second look at the charts, it's not the same metric being listed. Read the key at the top of the chart, that is the reason the numbers are different. It's different data being measured.
Was wondering the same thing. The only thing I can think is that because Polygon is a layer 2 it was left out. But then I’m wondering why it was included in all the charts
Previous highs don't take into account the token supply at the time, Sol has mostly unlocked now so has near, it's upside to ATH would be half of it's last high in dollars given the supply to market cap. The new chains still have large unlocks to take into account too, sui is 10% unlocked. You mention this in other videos but you didn't mention it in this comparison.
great analysis, one slide you could add is compare your final rankings to MC ranking of these chains to see which one is possibly undervalued by the market
Correct me if I am wrong, but transaction finality is is about Its reversibility. So it is always asymptotic to 51% attack. In theory there is no 100% finality but the depth of the block and the degree of decentralization. In Cardano any one can self verify own transaction by simply using a full node wallet such as Daedalus instantaneously & its decentralization means there is very little chance of double spend or roll back of the chain. In SOL one has to rely on "few " others to verify the transaction always, while vulnerable to 51% attack. Even if one claims there is a faster transaction time in SOL protocol one can easily implement the protocol as an L2 to Cardano with better decentralization and security that there can never be a rational to use SOL as L1.
James do you think there is any merit in assuming that as SEI is a newer exciting project with some interesting tech, coming from a much smaller market cap than SOL, that SEI is going to outperform SOL in this bull market? Therefore more risk for potentially greater reward? Thank you

No they don’t! But I would get ride of Xrp and atom and pick up SEI. Xrp will not pump that big and cosmos ecosystem is amazing but the atom token isn’t being used to it’s possible full potential so there for I would pick up sei because it’s part of the cosmos ecosystem and has a fantastic chance to make you some very nice gains. Just my opinion though

Thank you for the detailed analysis James! Might want to re-check the SUI chart though. From 0.37 to 0.86 feels like maybe it's up more than 5% from the low~
This was very helpful, many thanks! I think this measures quite well what the most populair chains are right now. In that lies also some criticism; this setup favors the newer chains. Not purposefully, but prob it's what you already seem to think is true, so this backs it up. I don't disagree, short term these are def the ones I would trade. What this setup is not very good at is predicting what chains might become hyped next. DOT for example having so much active devs (working on DOT 2.0) is a major sign if you ask me. The metrics are all based on the 'old' DOT. I dunno, when security and governance become more important, chains like DOT and Cardano will be better positioned. However, the moment might never come, speed is definitely more important for most of the degens out there! :) So I think I do agree that the higher scoring chains in this list have a higher chance of being succesful than the lower ones. But it's also to early to tell. In a more saturated market I think people will look to the OG's more. Big inflow of retail will also trade the ones they know I think. We'll see! :D
Good info James, thanks. A new one launching main net in January that people may want to investigate is Layer One X. If they can do all they claim to be able to do with cross-chain interoperability, etc, could be a game changer. NFA and DYOR.

I respect your work. I would like to pinpoint that TPS might mean different things for different blockchains. i.e. cardano can process a lot per transaction, i.e. move hundreds of assets and execute smart contracts besides. Also there is a failure rate for those transaction. i.e. solana currently failing a lot of transactions, so it's now fastest in failing a lot.

Regarding SEI price action. It has major support at 63 Cents. And then the next leg of the rally should take this to $1.50 in a short period of time.

One caveat is that as per your analysis, $SEI is the cheapest of all (per transaction), as well as it is the only EVM compatible so it may mean $SEI can get more ETH based dApps, or at least that's a valid hype reason :)
So, I don't feel it will lag behind most of them on market cap, if security is half as good as $SOL . I am very optimistic on $SEI bull run pricing.
With respect, the data on Polkadot at .40 TPS does not match the publicly available info on the Polkadot wiki, which says 1000 TPS. Pretty wide spread there. Wondering where you sourced your data from on this one.

SUI def has one of the best blockchain architectures. Solana is great too. Also, think you mixed up max tps for solana and sui? Sui has the highest max tps out of any current chain
The theoretical max TPS numbers dont match between the charts... solana ln first chart shows 300k and on third chart its 600k. Same with SUI and others
Take a second look at the charts, it's not the same metric being listed. Read the key at the top of the chart, that is the reason the numbers are different. It's different data being measured.

Previous highs don't take into account the token supply at the time, Sol has mostly unlocked now so has near, it's upside to ATH would be half of it's last high in dollars given the supply to market cap. The new chains still have large unlocks to take into account too, sui is 10% unlocked. You mention this in other videos but you didn't mention it in this comparison.
great analysis, one slide you could add is compare your final rankings to MC ranking of these chains to see which one is possibly undervalued by the market

Correct me if I am wrong, but transaction finality is is about Its reversibility. So it is always asymptotic to 51% attack. In theory there is no 100% finality but the depth of the block and the degree of decentralization.
In Cardano any one can self verify own transaction by simply using a full node wallet such as Daedalus instantaneously & its decentralization means there is very little chance of double spend or roll back of the chain.
In SOL one has to rely on "few " others to verify the transaction always, while vulnerable to 51% attack.
Even if one claims there is a faster transaction time in SOL protocol one can easily implement the protocol as an L2 to Cardano with better decentralization and security that there can never be a rational to use SOL as L1.
Please use Finality as a standalone metric for rankings.

No they don’t! But I would get ride of Xrp and atom and pick up SEI. Xrp will not pump that big and cosmos ecosystem is amazing but the atom token isn’t being used to it’s possible full potential so there for I would pick up sei because it’s part of the cosmos ecosystem and has a fantastic chance to make you some very nice gains. Just my opinion though

I think this measures quite well what the most populair chains are right now.
In that lies also some criticism; this setup favors the newer chains.
Not purposefully, but prob it's what you already seem to think is true, so this backs it up.
I don't disagree, short term these are def the ones I would trade.
What this setup is not very good at is predicting what chains might become hyped next.
DOT for example having so much active devs (working on DOT 2.0) is a major sign if you ask me.
The metrics are all based on the 'old' DOT.
I dunno, when security and governance become more important, chains like DOT and Cardano will be better positioned.
However, the moment might never come, speed is definitely more important for most of the degens out there! :)
So I think I do agree that the higher scoring chains in this list have a higher chance of being succesful than the lower ones.
But it's also to early to tell. In a more saturated market I think people will look to the OG's more.
Big inflow of retail will also trade the ones they know I think.

Good info James, thanks. A new one launching main net in January that people may want to investigate is Layer One X. If they can do all they claim to be able to do with cross-chain interoperability, etc, could be a game changer. NFA and DYOR.

I respect your work. I would like to pinpoint that TPS might mean different things for different blockchains. i.e. cardano can process a lot per transaction, i.e. move hundreds of assets and execute smart contracts besides. Also there is a failure rate for those transaction. i.e. solana currently failing a lot of transactions, so it's now fastest in failing a lot.
