I learned the hard way. Hydrolocked a motor as well. The high clearance bumper allows water easy access of the intake tract. An ARB Safari snorkel is worth every penny
I am running a snorkel with a precleaner. I no longer freak at water crossings and the precleaner exceeded my expectations with it's ability to keep my engine air filter pristine. Your video work is top notch!
Metal front bumper need a lot of gap for the body to flex and a lot of opening therefore water is much easier to go to the air box, Snorkel is must for water crossing!
One more question: 4th gen 4Runners with the V8 are more expensive. Is there an advantage to one vs the other? Is the SR5 v8 with less luxury items less likely to have break downs???
Thanks, Logan! Amazing stuff as usual. Just put the Red Dog Bumper on my GX and am super excited about it. Hope to get it a bit dirty this weekend. These videos inspire me to get out there. Please keep them coming.
Great upload, just found you in my recommend section. I have the Japanese varients of both these vehicles. We have the Toyota Prado here in the UK; I have the 2009 model Prado 4 litre V6 1GR vairent which is the largest displacement engine Toyota offered. The GX470 was built on the Prado 120 chassis & body but with more creature comforts, premium sound system, a quiter cabin and a 2UZ V8. Instead of the 4Runner, we have the Toyota Surf here; I have a 2008 Surf 1GR V6, just like the Prado sadly, the Surf never came with a V8. All right hand drive Japanese imports and all great vehicles to own and drive.
I really have to say.. the way you film...the way you have your commentary and the music you add in...all make your videos seem very tv series..like something on nat geo or something.. Reminiscent of Warren Miller ski vids ...honestly.
If u don’t like normal plastic snorkels look into stainless steel snorkels like we do down under they can look amazing if done well. Eg probuilt fab does really nice ones
Why wouldn’t you spin the motor with the spark plugs out it looks like the spark plugs are still in place just curious thanks hope everything worked out
Cooper has a new DISCOVERER OUT-- called RUGGED TREK-- a mid range-- will be more agressive than like the ko2 but not so much as the mickey thompsons.. testing out great too- for road wear, noise and performance in snow AND MUD.
Hi Logan, B.C. long time backwoods/ 4×4 bro here! I've been to MacLean before when I lived in Calgary for a couple years, beautiful area! Jared sorry to hear about the mechanical problems, been there done that unfortunately ! Logan, just found ur channel and subbed and will be sharing with buddies! Only seen the 1 vid but keep up the great work ! Cheers from B.C.!😁🇨🇦
I want the 33 gallon extra gas tank in mine too.. thanks for the Eibach info.. I think that will be quite good for MY use.. I got mashed between two trucks in 99 and don't want the roughness of rock crawling-- plus won't be going anything drastic as to trails either. I'm going with Cooper Evolution MTs.. SNOW rated- but also tough for the road.. and look great.. great grabbers etc.
I put iron man bull bar bumper for an gx470 on my 04 4runner. It bolted right up! Now O just need to fit and trim fenders and grill. Now I need headlights as well. I wonder if the gx470 headlights work for a 4th gen 4runner!? What do u think?
Pull all your plugs. Crank your engine until all water comes out. Use a tourch to burn off water or oil on plugs. Put them back in. Itll start right up. Gona be smokey till all water burns out of engine
Awesome content. I am buying a GX to replace my rack and 4runner that both had read lockers and Atrac. I was planning to have an arb locked installed in the back. Opinions please:
Hey! I’ve been looking for a rear bumper for a while and true north fabrication makes a swingout tube bumper for the 4th gen 4runner and they’re adapting it for our GX’s and it looks real nice! I would give that a look and it should be coming out in the next month!
Question from a GX off-road newbie: With the water crossings I see in this video, how did you decide that it was OK to not have a snorkel installed? Isn't hydrolock a concern?
Good question, we usually will get out and test the depth with a stick or something to check before just driving through, also making sure you are not going too fast is important. The depth of this water was okay but my buddy had not done up his intake boot after taking it off for some maintenance (big mistake).
Logan, love the channel an rig! Do you have the half height or full height Sherpa roof rack? About to get one and want to add a light bar later down the road. Thanks!
I did not know you could drive an all wheel drive truck with a different sized spare on it… To my knowledge this would ruin the drive system. You technically can’t even mix tire brands or have different tire wear levels, correct? You need to replace them in full sets…
Awesome video your best yet. Damn wish we in the East Coast could just hit trails like that whenever!! Fucken horses running around lol Too bad about your buddy, at least he had the balls to get out there. Give us an update on what the diagnosis is. Good to learn from. I also hate the look of the snorkel kind of obnoxious in my opinion. Only nice looking option is Lenzdesign which I want to pull the trigger on but they have very mixed reviews lately and it ain't cheap.. Also I don't get what the problem with the seat tilt is, doesn't bother me at all. I just wish the seats went back further and steering wheel came down lower. The angle hasn't bothered me.
I'll leave my seats--- I LIKE the sitting forward more-- can't stand laying back and driving. (I'm 65 and got mashed between two trucks in 99 and that laying back HURTS like hell..). Do you know of anyone that's used a PERFORMANCE chip to get better mileage out of the engines?? Scotty Kilmer says they are HARD on the engines.. but I think these can take it.
disagreed. get your camping equipment first and learn where you can go and really do you like off road driving, hard off road, unless hitting FRS and get a camp. In most cases 2 to 2.5 inch with 35' will give most of.
Be better to keep your ass OUT of the freakin water--- they're TRUCKS not damn boats... you NEVER know how deep that shit is.. also , if you're driving in snow in an area you've never been- you might be driving over a frozen pond that's deep and NOT totally frozen-- dangerous situation.. I love the set up you have- and i want MY lexus fixed like yours'' MOSTLY-- I'm not doing the "overland" stuff though- I don't care to be gone that long- adn I LIKE HOTELS.. :) I'm OLD.. ha. beautiful trip-- but that water is MUCH too risky...
No I would NOT tell you that you "need a snorkel"-- you need to keep yo-ass OUT of the damn water-- they're TRUCKS- not damn boats.. :) If you can't walk it and check it out- DON"T drive in it-- you never know how there might be a hole deep enough for you to disappear into.. or at least flood out like he did.. USE a little common sense!! :) BUT- I am going to set one up the way YOU have-- love that look. NO snorkel- that makes them look stupid-- and as I said- they're NOT boats anyway.. I'm going to be going around at Christmas in my santa suit with my girlfriend- delivering food, toys, etc. to families that don't have any-- IF it turns off snowy--and might anyway!!! I live up in country- and there are a lot of driveways (well, they're called that- but they're really goat trails) where we'll NEED the lexus capability.. and I loved the way you helped people-- I LOVE that..
I learned the hard way. Hydrolocked a motor as well. The high clearance bumper allows water easy access of the intake tract. An ARB Safari snorkel is worth every penny
Great drone work and music selection, feels like I'm watching a movie trailer!!!
Along with the messy fun and excellent filming, the music makes this. 👌♥️ Solid prosody here.
Thanks David!
Hey brother check out the new Dobinsons snorkels! That’s what I got and it’s perfect. So smooth and cheaper than the ARB by about $150-200.
Dreaming of OR with a GX or FJ. What I only have that's in the video is the coffee aeropress. Nothing beats made from it! 07:27 :)
love the content, wish we got more information on the 4runners. also wishing Red Dog offered products for the 4th Gen 4Runners.
I’m sure Logan would love to make a video with me if you guys would like to see that!
Thank you! Yeah I have been planning to do a couple build walkarounds soon
Yes, i wish also.
This summer a GX / Mountian biking video would be cool. The spacers for the seat are sOOO much better!!!
Love it and I agree!
Amazing video! Love your style, UA-cam needs more gx/4th gen videos like this
Thank you!
I just want to say that your videos always makes me wanna keep modding my GX!
I am running a snorkel with a precleaner. I no longer freak at water crossings and the precleaner exceeded my expectations with it's ability to keep my engine air filter pristine.

You can get Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3's in a 315/70/R17 for a killer dedicated winter. I ran the LT3's on my 80 last winter and they were awesome.

I definitely love your look on the Lexus. I personally drive a 2004 vw touareg, working to get 37" tyres
Great Video, Quality is top notch
Hell yeah guys, loved this 🤘🏻
Such a bummer about the 4Runner 😔😔
Thanks man!!

What lift and sz tires is your buddies 4runner on...one got hydrolocked?
Hey I’m running a 35” tall Goodyear wrangler duratrac on a radflo 2.5 coil over set up with about 2” of lift. With tough dog hd rear springs!

4Runner not have a vortex separator like the FJ?
It does but the intake wasn’t even connected to the motor...
Lol
Hey what trail is this? Im new to offroading and i am in alberta. Just wanna know some more new trail
How far did you get to on the map? What waypoint #? That's the way towards Quirk Ridge isn't it?
In the first part of the video when you guys were going through those puddles, I was like....one of these guys is gonna get hyrdo-locked...yep.

Nice videos. I have the same tires on a 4wd Silverado. They helped when we had the crazy snow in Louisiana.
Thanks! That’s awesome
Dude, that knife... where did you get it from? My dad has one just like it, he got it from his father who got it from brazil over 30 years ago
very nicely put together video! cant wait to see the next one.
Thank you!
Look at doing the Cowl intake if you don't like the look of a dorkel.
I'm with you, i don't like the snorkel look, be nice to find a low profile, less elephanty option..
Hi, does your gx 470 have lockers? if you do what kind? thanks.
GX470 life.
How much do you value your Gx at?
Also, how much do you think is a good price for a used, stock model, say around 200K miles?
Love it..i also have overland GX 470
The Lexus looks great.
Thanks!
Is your GX470 suspension mid travel or long travel suspension ?
It looks like he’s got a long travel suspension
Very nice tires we have the same in 35x12.5r17 on our 4R
This makes me want to sell my Tundra. Y’all have cool rides 🤘
Thanks!!
Do you think you could do a trip like this with a 2wd 4runner?
Unfortunately no. 4wd was definitely required due to how slick it was
What is the song at 16:58?
Your GX is awesome!!! Go on your hobby!!!
Thank you!
Question from a GX off-road newbie: With the water crossings I see in this video, how did you decide that it was OK to not have a snorkel installed? Isn't hydrolock a concern?
OK, I posted my question before getting to the section of the video where this very thing happened to your friend. Sigh.
Good question, we usually will get out and test the depth with a stick or something to check before just driving through, also making sure you are not going too fast is important. The depth of this water was okay but my buddy had not done up his intake boot after taking it off for some maintenance (big mistake).
How loud are the Mickeys on the road? looking at a set for my 04 sequoia
Fairly noisy for sure but amazing performance off-road
more questions for you...
1. Do you not have sliders?
2. how are you camping now? ground tent?
Hopefully getting sliders in the next month! Yeah just a ground tent aha
great cinematics
Thanks!
Logan, love the channel an rig! Do you have the half height or full height Sherpa roof rack? About to get one and want to add a light bar later down the road. Thanks!
Thanks! I am pretty sure this is the half rack or at least that’s what I ordered haha
Do you know if the aftermarket running boards of a 4Runner fit in a 2006 GX470?
I am not sure sorry
@@LoganKingMedia is okay thanks!
show us how you wash the RIG
Such a great video!! To bad my motor had some issues!
That intake location is in such a bad spot on these 4.7 4th gens.
@@devincrosby1594 well this had nothing to do with that haha. The intake boot slipped off the engine due to me forgetting to tighten it all the way
I love the tires on your Lexus! Is it pretty loud going down the highway?
Thanks! Yeah they were pretty loud I just switched to Goodyear Duratracs which I also really like but are a lot quieter on the road
What’s the fuel mileage?
Why aren’t you towing it instead of the other T4R?
No particular reason, he has the v8 engine as well and was closer haha
Was the engine toast?
Yeah :( he found a new one though and it’s already in
Great content, would look better on a 24fps time line instead of 60.
Thanks! Yeah I agree I messed up aha
what song is this at the beginning?
Best adventure vlogs.
Who did you order Eibach through?
I got it directly from Eibach but I do know that they are sold out/backordered now due to covid unfortunately I believe.
Are you running stock gears with 35’s?
Yes, will probably re gear in the future though.
I did not know you could drive an all wheel drive truck with a different sized spare on it… To my knowledge this would ruin the drive system. You technically can’t even mix tire brands or have different tire wear levels, correct? You need to replace them in full sets…

How can I follow the 4th gen?
@jt.explores on instagram!

How’s the gas on these adventures lol?
People ask why all of our crew with Ozark Overland Adventures run snorkels. It’s insurance and assurance. Sorry to see a good rig go down.
Good insurance for the price!
Where is your spare?
Only had a 285/70r17 underneath for this short trip but I have a full size ready in my garage to put on once my rear mount shows up!
