- Casey O'Brien has defeated cancer four times, and that doesn't stop him from being around the game he loves as a member of the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Despite his lack of playing time as a third-string placeholder, O'Brien is a true inspiration for everyone battling life-threatening illnesses.

I know exactly what that is like I had Spinal Cancer grade 3 5% survival rate that was 12 years ago. Over all I have had Cancer 3 times and I am still here.

I have incurable stage 4 thyroid cancer metastasis in my spine/ vertebrae. I have had two serious blood infections, a thyroidectomy, 3 surgeries that split my back wide open with a 10 inch incision, a wound in my back that infected my hardware, my hardware was taken out, a CDIF infection that placed me back in the hospital for a month and kidney failure last year.
Thx for your support. Christ is my rock. It's such a rough ride. Still, this is truly the very best time of my life, because I have grown much closer to Christ. God bless.

As a gopher fan since childhood I can relate! I’m a 3 time double lung cancer survivor and in the middle of fight #4!! You learn to never take anything for granted and to cherish everyone and everything around you! Good luck young man and never quit fighting! My son too . Will have his 7th surgery in December in Rochester/Mayo to remove two spots on his lung . It looks like they may have to take the lung if any more spots pop up . My son is 17 and has been battleing since November 2017 . Keep fighting James we will add you in our prayers
tim allen your at the right place! I’m fortunate to live 40 miles from Rochester in Austin! The tumor board in Rochester is second to none! Dr Oliver my oncologist and Dr. wiggle the thoracic surgeon are awesome! I also will have your son in my prayers!🙏🙏🙏

I have 2 types of breast cancer. This young man, is an inspiration. 4 times could knock the stuffing out of you, heck one time does, I believe his love of the game keeps him alive. My mantra is and still I rise. I wish you a long live, you deserve it young man. Be proud and brave.

This young man has more of a positive perspective on life than most of us will ever know. We can all get frustrated, upset, depressed or want to give up sometimes. This kid not only doesn't give up, he doesn't know the meaning of "quit". To turn a situation like his into a positive humbles me. God bless this young man.

I too have yarn wrist bands from my times at being at my Congenital Heart Disease Camp. I’ve lost many friends. Friends i called brother and sister and mother. It’s never easy, but knowing i’m not alone in this world dealing with a disease that’s just like cancer. I’m proud this boy that became a man which made him an inspiration to many kids and adults. God bless him and his family and to everyone dealing with a disease or knows someone who is. You’re not alone.
