Building Hay Wagons Part II, Decks etc

  • Part two of making my own hay wagons. The white ash and red oak framing all gets bolted in place to the running gear. I also added a three foot high rear stabilizing apparatus. LOL Used some preservative and Grace Ice and Water Shield adhesive roofing tape to help lengthen the life of the wood on the wagons. I installed the pine board decking, material I had laying around. I used the Woodmizer LT40 to saw the 4"x4"s that support the decking. I welded up my own brackets that attach the back supports to the main carrying timbers. The running gear was Farmco brand. If you are interested in doing your own haying and want to know how to make your own hay trailer, I hope this helps. (sound effects courtesy of iMovie)

      Thanks for watching. It's been several haying seasons already with the new wagons and the only complaint is that the floor boards are to far apart when unloading. I also didn't have to slant the back supports they could have been vertical.

    Awesome job on the wagons! Like the ice shield and the tongue/groove uprights you did. Smart thinking IMHO.
    Hope they serve you well for a long time.
    * the music w/the sped up sawmill noise was awesome too. I'd buy an album of that. lol

      We've used the wagons twice in the last few days and they're working as they should. Time well spent. Thanks Flatlinesup! Brian

      I'm glad you enjoyed it. Did you also watch part one? In hind site I didn't need to angle the back, as I load the wagons with our hay grapple. Thanks for watching!

    Next time, you can use a solution of 5% copper sulfate (CuSO4) as a preservative.

      My long term plan is to get them under some kind of a building. We all know how that goes. Thanks for the comment.

    Did you bolt the oak frame rails to the steel in the front and the rear? I'm seeing more people say to only bolt one end so the wagon can flex.

    • @BrianBozak
      @BrianBozak  11 місяців тому

      Yes I bolts the wood frame to the steel frame both front and back. The wagon still flexes and I have had no problems.
      Thanks

    You're not very good at presentation, Beam Guy. Too longwinded, too much side tracking and procrastination. Why don't you change the approach of your videos. Say nothing, show us the work and run a comment line underneath it. That would improve your videos so much that I could actually watch them till the end.

      I'm sorry the videos aren't interesting enough for you to watch them to the end. Can't please every one . Hope you sill watch .
